Pokemon BDSP EXP Share Effects

Exp. Share can't be turned off in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Read on to learn about Exp. Share effects and how to let all party Pokemon gain Exp. after battle!

Can You Turn Off Exp. Share?

Pokemon BDSP Pikachu

Exp. Share is a feature and no longer a held item. The Exp. Share feature cannot be toggled on or off and is active whenever you have more than 1 Pokemon in your party.

The only way to not have Exp. shared between party Pokemon is by having just 1 Pokemon in your party or if all but 1 Pokemon are fainted.

Exp. Share Effects

Exp. Shared With All Party Pokemon

Pokemon BDSP Turn Off Exp Share

Exp. Share automatically shares Exp. to all Party Pokemon, regardless if they participated in the battle or not.

The Pokemon that participate in the battle earn more EXP than the ones that didn't. The share of EXP for the ones that didn't join vary depending on their current level.

Present From the Start

The mechanic is present from the start of the game, or at least from when your party gets more than 1 Pokemon.

Is Exp Share Bad?

EXP.png

No, Exp Share isn't bad. Exp Share is beneficial to your Pokemon team, because you don't have to swap Pokemon into battle just for them to get Exp. It affecting your whole team regardless of participation keeps your team's levels balanced and consistent.

Exp Share does not make your Pokemon weak either. In fact, it ensures that every member of your team gets Exp so that they will be strong enough to face another Pokemon in battle.

Be careful when EV Training

Unfortunately, one downside to not being able to turn off the EXP share is that all Pokemon in your party will receive EVs from every battle. This can be tricky when you're trying to EV train a particular Pokemon. We recommend EV Training a Pokemon first before levelling it up to make sure that it doesn't get any EVs when earning EXP.

Exp Share would be fine if it was optional. But having it be forced upon the player completely breaks the game. As you level up much, much faster than originally intended.

unfortunately, the EXP share has a major downside: all EVs from battle are given in full to each pokemon that gets EXP from the EXP share.
