Apart from their different colors, you can also identify Shiny Pokemon by a unique animation that plays before the battle starts. Shiny Pokemon will have this different shining effect whether they're sent out from their Pokeballs or encountered in the wild.
Once you've obtained them, Shiny Pokemon also have a Shiny Symbol on their status page in the form of 2 ✦ (red four-pointed stars).

Shiny Pokemon are Pokemon that have a different color compared to their regular counterparts. Some Shiny Pokemon may just have a different shade of the original's color, while other Shiny Pokemon sport a completely different color palette.
