Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike Lore

Lore Description
"A secret incantation of the capital's ancient dragon cult.

Summons a red bolt of lightning that scatters and spreads around the surrounding area. Charging enhances the range of the lightning bolt.

Spoken of in legend, red lightning is the weapon wielded by the ancient dragons."

Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike is Dragon Cult incantation which conjures red lightning that strikes in a large AoE around the caster. The lightning strikes advance outward, dealing lightning damage upon hit.

Note: If the ceiling is too low, the spell will not work. The animations will still play out but no lightning strikes will occur. For reference, most of the corridors in the game's many catacombs will not allow this spell to fire properly.

How to Get Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike

Give the Ancient Dragon Prayerbook to Miriel

The Ancient Dragon Prayerbook can be found near Crumbling Beast Grave Depths site of grace in Crumbling Farum Azula. From this site of grace take the west exit past the room with the tables of skeletons on it. In the next room, you'll see a corpse in the middle with the Ancient Dragon Prayerbook.

Give this to Miriel at the Church of Vows to be able to purchase the Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike incantation.

How to Use Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike

Used When Facing Multiple Enemies

Elden Ring - Used When Facing Multiple Enemies
Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike is particularly strong against clusters of enemies, especially when they start surrounding the caster. Use this spell as crowd control when initiating a fight against a mob, thinning their ranks before they engage you in combat.

However, do note that the spell's lightning strikes have gaps as they advance outward. Enemies will have a chance to escape unharmed, so prepare to dodge should a nearby enemy be unaffected after you cast the spell.

Great Against Large Bosses

Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike deals great damage when used against large enemies since their size leaves them vulnerable to most of the strikes. To maximize the damage, cast the spell right next to their bodies and have them soak up multiple hits. Slow-moving enemies like the Erdtree Avatars are perfect targets for this spell.

Additionally, Patch 1.04 buffed the recovery time of Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike, allowing players to reposition faster after casting the spell. The shorter recovery time helps when wielding this spell against many of the games' overworld bosses.

Damage is Boosted by the Gravel Stone Seal

Players can boost the damage of the Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike by equipping the Gravel Stone Seal. Since the best Faith-scaling seal is the Erdtree Seal, wield the Gravel Stone Seal in your off-hand while casting with your primary seal to boost the damage of the Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike significantly.

Since the seal's buff effect is passive, it is not necessary to upgrade your Gravel Stone Seal unless you will be using it as your primary casting seal.
