Frozen Lightning Spear Lore

Lore Description
"Incantation that channels the power of the Dragonkin Soldiers.

Creates a spear of ice lightning and stabs it into the ground from above. On impact, the spear will burst into trails of lightning advancing forwards.

The Dragonkin were born in the Eternal City, where they knew no true sky, nor true lightning. Instead, ice lightning was their weapon.

Frozen Lightning Spear Effects

Elden Ring - Frozen Lightning Spear

Frozen Lightning Spear is a Dragon Cult incantation that levitates the user for a brief moment when cast, before conjuring a lightning spear that stabs into the ground.

On contact with the ground, a conical AoE is projected forward. After a short delay, the marked area is struck by frozen lightning. When hit by the lightning, enemies will build up Frost.

Defeat the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella

The Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella is an optional boss found in the Ainsel River region. From the Ainsel River Downstream site of grace head north until you reach a huge throne with a giant skeleton sitting on it. This would be the boss area where you will face the Dragonkin Soldier.

Defeating the Dragonkin Soldier will reward you with the Frozen Lightning Spear incantation.

How to Use Frozen Lightning Spear

Used to Deal Freeze and Lightning Damage

Elden Ring - Used to Deal Freeze and Lightning Damage
This spell is only really effective against large enemies, grouped-up enemies, or regular enemies that keep their distance. To deal maximum damage, players will need to clip enemies using the widest part of the cone. Frozen lightning hits near the caster will always deal less damage.

Unlike the other Dragon Cult incantations, the Frozen Lightning Spear is only really viable for slow, ranged PvE fights. Enemies that like to dodge or rush you will punish this incantation's slow cast animation and damage delay. For PvP, the abyssmal turn rate while casting makes this move too telegraphed to be used effectively.

Lightning Spread is Affected by Terrain

Elden Ring - Lightning Spread is Affected by Terrain
The cone of Frozen Lightning Spear is affected by the height of terrain. Anything slightly elevated can prevent the cone from expanding forward, nerfing the incantation's range significantly. Enemies that are right next to each other but are at slightly different elevations can result in the lightning only hitting one of them. Keep terrian in mind when deciding to cast this incantation during a fight.

Damage is Boosted by the Gravel Stone Seal

Players can boost the damage of Frozen Lightning Spear by equipping the Gravel Stone Seal. Since the best Faith-scaling seal is the Erdtree Seal, wield the Gravel Stone Seal in your off-hand while casting with your primary seal to boost the damage of Frozen Lightning Spear significantly.

Since the seal's buff effect is passive, it is not necessary to upgrade your Gravel Stone Seal unless you will be using it as your primary casting seal.
