Honed Bolt Lore

Lore Description
"One of the incantations of the capital's ancient dragon cult.

Summons a bolt of lightning to strike foes from above. This incantation can be cast repeatedly.

Long ago, Godwyn the Golden defeated the ancient dragon Fortissax, and befriended his fallen foe — an event that gave rise to the ancient dragon cult in the capital."

Honed Bolt is a Dragon Cult incantation which conjures a bolt of lightning from the sky, striking targeted enemies from above with each cast. After the first bolt hits, players can keep pressing the cast button (R1 or L1) to continue casting Honed Bolt repeatedly until either their FP or stamina runs out.

You can obtain the Dragon Cult Prayerbook after killing the roaming Leyndell Knight in the area near the Artist's Shack site of grace, east of the Liurnia of the Lakes region. Give the Dragon Cult Prayerbook to Corhyn or Miriel to be able to purchase the Honed Bolt incantation.

How to Use Honed Bolt

Can be Used to Surprise Enemies in PvP

Elden Ring - Can be Used to Surprise Enemies in PvP
When facing multiple enemies in PvP, Honed Bolt is a great way to pick them off if they start keeping their distance. Due how easy it is to repeatedly cast the spell and change targets at the same time, Honed Bolt functions as a nice bit of pressure for the enemy backline as a solo invader.

Note: While this is one of the better uses of Honed Bolt, having its counterpart, Ash of War: Thunderbolt, equipped to a weapon is far superior as the transition between spellcasting and combat is seamless. Using the seal, unfortunately, telegraphs the move too early.

Good Damage for Moving Targets

Honed Bolt has great tracking when it comes to moving targets, often better than many of the incantations available to the player. In PvE, constantly moving enemies like the Night's Cavalry and NPC Invaders are easily tracked and punished by multiple casts of this spell.

Damage is Boosted by the Gravel Stone Seal

Players can boost the damage of Honed Bolt by equipping the Gravel Stone Seal. Since the best Faith-scaling seal is the Erdtree Seal, wield the Gravel Stone Seal in your off-hand while casting with your primary seal to boost the damage of Honed Bolt significantly.

Since the seal's buff effect is passive, it is not necessary to upgrade your Gravel Stone Seal unless you will be using it as your primary casting seal.
