"

Ekzykes's Decay Effects

Ekzykes's Decay is a stronger version of Rotten Breath. It allows the caster to transform into Ekzyke and spew powerful rotten breaths at enemies. The breaths deal damage upon hit, building up and inflicting Scarlet Rot on your target.

How to Get Ekzykes's Decay

Obtained by Exchanging Dragon Hearts

Elden Ring - Bought from Cathedral of Dragon Communion
Ekzykes's Decay can be obtained by exchanging 2 Dragon Heart at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. This spell can only be unlocked after defeating Decaying Ekzykes at Caelid.

How to Use Ekzykes's Decay

Used to Quickly Inflict Scarlet Rot

Elden Ring - Used to Quickly Inflict Scarlet Rot

Ekzyke's Decay is a dragon breath incantation that builds up and inflicts Scarlet Rot rather quickly. In PvE, it is very effective against bosses as the DoT takes away a good chunk of their HP in no time at all.

However, do note that like most dragon breath incantations, Ekzyke's Decay is easily interrupted by normal attacks. It is best used as an opener (as the AI will not immediately counterattack), or when your target is distracted by a Spirit Ash or Gold Summon.

Can be Used in Mid-Air

Elden Ring - Can be Used in Mid-Air
Unlike the basic Rotten Breath, Ekzykes's Decay can be cast mid-jump or while falling. You can jump off an elevated ledge and cast this in mid-air to zone out pursuing enemies. For PvP however, the FP cost is not worth it unless you are using a pure casting build.

To cast a charged breath in mid-air, you will need to either equip a Seal in your right hand or two-hand your seal. If you only have a seal in your off-hand, only one breath will be cast before falling to the ground.

Lastly, casting Ekzykes's Decay before hitting the ground will not save you from fall lethal damage. Any fall that would normally kill or damage you will still proceed after you finish the casting animation.

Damage is Boosted by the Dragon Communion Seal

Players can boost the damage of Ekzykes's Decay by equipping the Dragon Communion Seal. Since the best Faith-scaling seal is the Erdtree Seal, wield the Dragon Communion Seal in your off-hand while casting with your primary seal to boost the damage of Ekzykes's Decay, significantly.

Since the seal's buff effect is passive, it is not necessary to upgrade your Dragon Communion Seal unless you will be using it as your primary casting seal.
