Smoldering Ember is an Infusion-type Horadric Spell in Diablo 4 (D4), introduced in Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim. Learn about the Smoldering Ember's effects, and how to obtain and upgrade it here.

Smoldering Ember Icon Smoldering Ember
Effect Your Catalyst now deals Fire and or Burning damage. It destroys enemy structures and has 10% chance to ignite the ground beneath enemies, dealing 74,800 Burning damage over 5 seconds. While equipped, your Fire Damage Bonus is equal to that of your highest Damage Type Bonus.
At Rank 5: Deactivates monster Chilling Wind effects for 5 seconds.
Type Infusion

Infusions, such as Smoldering Ember, modifies the type of damage that your Horadric Spell does. Upgrading it further allows it to grant more bonuses to your Catalyst.

This spell's effect can be further improved by upgrading it from the Horadric Spellcraft menu.

How to Get Smoldering Ember

Complete the “To Walk Where the Spirits Tread” Seasonal Quest

Strongroom Spellcraft Reward
Obtain the Smoldering Ember spell by completing Season 9's To Walk Where the Spirits Tread Seasonal Quest. This series of quests will mostly revolve around clearing Horadric Strongrooms and talking to Bryona in Cerrigar during the early game until you unlock all the Catalyst and Infusion Spellcraft.

Upgrading Horadric Spellcraft

Smoldering Ember can be further improved by upgrading it up to Rank 10. You can upgrade Horadric Spells by selecting them on the Horadric Spellcraft Menu and pressing the Upgrade Power button.
