Seneschal Constructs are non-controllable companions that you get during Season 3 of Diablo 4 (D4). Read on to learn about this new seasonal pet including how to unlock and upgrade it in the Seasonal Realm!
The Seneschal Construct companion is the new Season 3 mechanic that replaces Season 2's Vampiric Powers. Put simply, it is a combat pet that follows you around, using different Offensive or Utility skills based on its equipped Governing Stones.
For veterans of the Diablo series, think of them like Diablo 3 pets. However, instead of picking up gold and auto-salvaging your rares, these pets can attack, CC, or provide shields and heals depending on the stones you equip for them.
Since the Seneschal is a seasonal mechanic, only characters in the Seasonal Realm will be able to get it. Eternal Realm characters will have to wait for the end of the season (April 16, 2024) to see if this system will carry over to the permanent realm.
Season 3 Guide (Season of the Construct)
The Seneschal Menu is opened via the Seneschal Construct tab of your player inventory.
The Seneschal can be equipped with a maximum of 2 Active Skills. The type of skill being equipped will depend on the Governing Stone you slot into the Seneschal.
Both these active skills can get a max of 3 Skill Modifiers each in the form of Tuning Stones. Slot 3 Tuning Stones per Governing Stones to maximize the utility of your new pet.
The Seneschal is easy to unlock, only requiring you to finish the 2nd mission of the Seasonal Questline called The Yshari. After you defeat the Possessed Sorcerer, you will unlock the Seneschal Companion for use.
Tip: Once you have the Seneschal Construct unlocked, consider completing the rest of the Seasonal Questline first so that you gain access to the full range of activities of Season 3 including Arcane Tremors and Vaults.
Season 3 Questline Walkthrough
The Seneschal cannot be directly upgraded. Instead, the only way to "upgrade" your Seneschal's powers is to level up the Governing Stones and Tuning Stones you equip for them.
In Season 3, you will be able to upgrade these stones by finding duplicates of them. The best ways to get duplicates will be to participate in Arcane Tremors and to run Nightmare Vaults.
How to Level Governing and Tuning Stones
The Seneschal also benefits from your player stats and equipped gear. The higher your stats, the better their skill effects will be. However, do note that benefits from this method will be marginal. Ultimately, the best way to upgrade your Seneschal is to upgrade their stones.
The 5th mission of the seasonal questline - Drums of the Vault - used to softlock progression due to a bugged out interaction with the Brazier that upgrades your Seneschal. This bug has been fixed as of Patch 1.3.0a which shipped on January 26, 2024.
