Infernal Compass
Infernal Compass is the key item that you need to enter the Infernal Hordes in Diablo 4 (D4). Read on to learn how to get an Infernal Compass, how to upgrade your Infernal Compass, how to use it, and so much more.

What Is An Infernal Compass?

Key For Opening Infernal Hordes

Infernal Compass Key
The Infernal Compass is a key you can use to open a portal leading to the Infernal Hordes. These Infernal Compasses come in different tiers, with Tier 8 being the highest. The higher the tier of your compass, the stronger the enemies you will encounter, and the better the rewards will be.

Additionally, the number of waves you need to clear to complete the Infernal Horde depends on the tier of your compass. Starting at Tier 4, each tier adds an additional wave, with a maximum of 10 waves at Tier 8.

How to Farm Infernal Compass

Complete Nightmare Dungeons

Complete Nightmare Dungeons
The best way to farm an Infernal Compass is by running and completing Nightmare Dungeons in World Tier 4. Even though it is not a guaranteed drop, the chances are pretty high, and you can get up to two at the end of the dungeon. You can also use the Sigil Powder you farm here to craft an Infernal Compass.

This is an excellent way to farm Infernal Compasses since you will be able to push the level of your character while upgrading the Glyphs for your Paragon Board.

Participate in Helltide Events

Diablo 4 - New Helltide Duration
The second best method to farm the Infernal Compass is by participating in Helltide and opening the Tortured Gifts. Although it is not guaranteed, there is a high chance to get one when opening Tortured Gifts using Aberrant Cinders.

Complete The Tree of Whispers

Complete The Tree of Whispers
While participating in Helltide, you can also complete the Tree of Whispers to obtain the Reward Caches, which can also drop Infernal Compasses. Make sure that you complete the Whispers quests inside the Helltide to efficiently farm Infernal Compasses.

Run the Pit of Artificers

Run the Pit of Artificers
Another way to farm Infernal Compasses is by completing The Pit. This farming method has a lower chance of dropping an Infernal Compass, but you will need to clear The Pit anyway to farm the materials for Masterworking.

Craft at the Occultist

Craft at the Occultist
The last method to obtain an Infernal Compass is by crafting them at the Occultist. This requires Sigil Powder and Forgotten Souls, which are also needed for crafting Nightmare Dungeon Sigils and Imprinting Aspects. Try to avoid this method as unless you have enough materials to prepare for the endgame.

How to Use Infernal Compass

Used to Open the Infernal Horde Portal

Infernal Horde - Infernal Compass
Similar to Nightmare Dungeon Sigils, you simply need to use the item to open a portal somewhere on the map. Click on the portal to teleport and start the Infernal Horde.

How to Upgrade Infernal Compass

Use Abyssal Scrolls to Increase Tier

Infernal Horde - Abyssal Scroll
In your inventory, you can use an Abyssal Scroll on the Infernal Compass you wish to upgrade. Each Abyssal Scroll raises the tier of your Infernal Compass by one.

Note that this process is irreversible; once you raise the tier of the Infernal Compass, you cannot revert it to a previous tier.

Where to Get Abyssal Scrolls

Completing Infernal Horde

Infernal Horde - Rewards
After completing an Infernal Horde run, you can spend your Burning Aether to open the chests (except for Spoils of Gold) for a chance to drop Abyssal Scrolls.

What is the difference between a sacred infernal compass and an ancestral infernal compass? Does it matter? Are the drops different?
