Blizzard rolled out the Version 1.0.2c PC client patch on June 2, 2023, to address freezing and game crashes. We recommend downloading this patch as soon as possible, as it may fix any crashing problems you're currently experiencing.
Let us know in the comments if this patch was able to resolve the issue or if crashes persist even after downloading the update!
We were able to overcome this issue by reinstalling the game on a different disk drive. Although the game was installed on the C: drive already, reinstalling on a separate SSD hard drive resolved the issue and allowed us to continue into the game. Credit goes to users on the Battle.net forums who uncovered the fix to this troublesome bug.
Step | Description |
---|---|
1 | Uninstall the game Within Battle.net, select the gear icon next to Play and choose Uninstall. |
2 | Reinstall on a Different Drive After uninstalling, click Install and select a different disk drive from the one you initially installed on. |
3 | Play on the New Drive After completing the install, select Play within Battle.net and the game should be able to proceed normally. |
If the above solution didn't work for you, the solutions below might help your issue. Although they didn't work for our team, they have been reported to work for some users, so they are worth trying if you're still hitting a wall.
By pressing Alt + Enter after starting up the game, you can play the game in a windowed mode instead of fullscreen.
Although the game will still crash after reaching the login screen in our experience, we were able to make it past the initial title screen with this adjustment.
Some users have reported that selecting the Run as administrator option on the Battle.net app, then selecting Diablo 4 for them has helped them start the game.
Although we haven't managed to achieve success with this method so far, it has worked for some users, so it is worth trying for everyone experiencing this issue.
This bug occurs when starting up the game and entering the login queue for the first time, at which time the game will crash.
After this occurs, the game will crash on the title screen every time, and becomes unable to return to the previously accessed login screen.
