Monster Cards are some of the most common cards that players can encounter in Duels and when opening card packs. By and large, Monster cards are the primary means a player use to defeat an opponent – through either dealing damage against their own cards, or through direct attacks on an opponent's Life Points itself.

Spell Cards are unique cards that can be triggered during Duels, oftentimes providing bonuses to the controlling player of a card. Unlike Trap Cards, Spell Cards can only be activated during the controlling player's turn.
The effects of these types of cards can be chained.

Similar to Spell Cards, Trap Cards as well can be used to provide the players with bonuses while also dishing several effects against an opponent that impedes their progress. Unlike Spell Cards however, Trap Cards requires the player to set them first unto the field prior to their activation, and can even be activated during an opponent's term.
Effects of these type of cards can be chained.
