Purrely Quick-Play Spells have effects when used as Xyz Monster Materials Epurrely Xyz Monsters can absorb activated Purrely Quick-Play Spells Expurrely Noir's effects does not have hard once-per-turn clause
|
The "Purrely" archetype is a curious case of attaching cards as materials for Xyz Monsters. Part of the Deck's playstyle focuses using the Quick-Play Spells to attachto your "Purrely" Xyz Monsters, and be as strong as possible while on the field.
This Deck plays like a Control Deck when setting up your boss monster, but once it's on the field, it becomes an Aggro Deck with a monster that can be pretty hard to stop.
There are only two monsters in the Main Deck for this archetype--and most of the time, you'll be Special Summoning them with the plethora of Quick-Play "Purrely" Spells you have at your disposal.
Purrely excavates and add a card from the Deck to your hand upon summon, while Purrelyly adds a non-Quick-Play "Purrely" Spell Cards to your hand.
Both monsters have effects that allows them to Special Summon "Purrely" Xyz Monsters and attach said Quick-Play "Purrely" Spell Cards.
The rest of the monsters in your Deck are merely support for the two "Purrely" monsters. Classic staples like Maxx C
to discourage Special Summons, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to stop search and/or Special Summon effects.
Droll & Lock Bird is becoming a popular hand trap once again from all the searches and draws recently, preventing the addition of any further card to the hand for the rest of the turn.
The bulk of the Deck's strategy relies on these four Quick-Play Cards, meant to Special Summon the two Main Deck "Purrely" monsters, and give additional effects if attached to a "Purrely" Xyz Monster. Each one provides a different kind of advantage, so make sure to consider the game state before activating each of them.
Purrely Spell | Unique Active Effect | Attached to Xyz Monster Effect |
---|---|---|
Purrely Delicious Memory | ・Targets a monster, makes them immune to battle destruction until the next turn | ・Grants ATK & DEF for every material attached |
Purrely Happy Memory | ・Grants a one-time protection from card destruction effects | ・Gives additional attacks for each attached "Purrely Happy Memory"+1 |
Purrely Pretty Memory | ・Grants both players 1000 LP | ・Targets a card the opponent controls, and attaches it to the Xyz Monster this card is attached to |
Purrely Sleepy Memory | ・Next battle/effect damage dealt to you is 0 | ・Lets you draw 1 card every Standby Phase |
Take note of the stats of the Xyz Monster that you'll be giving these cards to as materials to maximize the effectiveness of the additional effects. Offensively, you'd need to get Purrely Delicious Memory or Purrely Happy Memory attached as materials.
For support and control, the cards you want attached as materials are Purrely Pretty Memory and Purrely Sleepy Memory.
The other two Spells provide resources when the requirements are met, while providing a floating advantage while on the Field. The archetype's featured Field Spell, Stray Purrely Street, protects your "Purrely" monsters from targeted effects the turn they are Special Summoned.
My Friend Purrely is the card that helps you search out the Quick-Play "Purrely" Spell Cards you need. If an "Purrely" Xyz Monster you control leaves the field, this gives you a chance to get three of those Quick-Play Spells from the GY back to the hand, ready for you to use again.
Each of the "Epurrely" monsters provide further control and protection as they continue to get materials for you to use. These are also the monsters you need to have on the field if you want to summon the stronger "Purrely" Xyz Monsters.
Epurrely Beauty can negate the effects of a monster the opponent controls, Epurrely Happiness can search any "Purrely" card after it battles and possibly half the ATK of an opponent's monster, and Epurrely Plump can steal the opponent's Spell or Trap Cards in their GY to be attached as materials.
The newest addition among the Epurrely monsters is Epurrely Noir, which can bounce cards from the field back to the hand, and can set "Purrely" Trap Cards straight from the Deck when using its effect that attaches activated "Purrely" Quick-Play Spells onto itself as material.
If any of the "Epurrely" monsters manage to get 5 materials on them, they can be used as material to Xyz Summon the "Expurrely" monsters, which are the endgame for a usual combo for this Deck.
Expurrely Happiness is the more aggressive of the two Rank 7 Xyz Monsters. It can negate the effects of all other face-up monsters the opponent currently controls for a turn, and the opponent can't respond to it if it has a Level 1 "Purrely" monster attached. Each time this monster attacks, it deals pre-emptive damage worth 1500 LP.
Expurrely Noir is the defensive half of the boss monster duo. This Xyz Monster becomes immune to all activated effects if it meets the material requirements. Detaching two to activate its effect lets it send a card the opponent controls to the bottom of their Deck, avoiding any potential Trigger Effects from activating.
If all other options are exhausted, you can always pivot to the classic Xyz Monster combo of Downerd Magician and Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder. Depending on how many materials you can attach to "Epurrely" monsters, Divine Arsenal could have as many as 7 or even 8 materials worth using--and remember, its effect does not have a hard once-per-turn clause.
This is the Purrely Deck's most basic combo, which can start with just a single Purrely, and a little bit of luck after activating its effect.
Card(s) Needed on Hand | |
---|---|
Step | Description |
1 | Normal Summon Purrely, and activate its effect to excavate the top three cards of the Deck. If a Purrely "Quick-Play" Spell was excavated, select it to be added to the hand. |
2 | Activate the Purrely "Quick-Play" Spell, to Special Summon Purrelyly from the Deck. |
3 | Upon being Special Summoned, activate Purrelyly's effect to search out a non-Quick-Play "Purrely" Spell Card. Search out My Friend Purrely to add to the hand. |
4 | Activate My Friend Purrely, and activate its effect on the field; select three Quick-Play "Purrely" Spell Cards from the Deck, let the opponent choose one at random, then add the chosen one to your hand. |
5 | Activate the effect of Purrely; using the Quick-Play "Purrely" Spell Card you just searched out, use the two cards as material to summon any one of the Epurrely Xyz Monsters, depending on your state of the field. |
If the "Purrely" Deck gets their boss monster out with high ATK, they're basically high pickings for Mikanko Decks, especially as the Deck doesn't normally have any negates set up on the field. Attacking with 0 ATK monsters and make the opponent receive the damage is the key win condition.

If a Kashtira Deck manages to set up before the "Purrely" player manages to get out its monsters out and start banishing monsters and blocking card zones, it can be hard to deal with cards being banished face-down left and right. Especially once they manage to bring out Number 89: Diablosis the Mind Hacker.

With how efficient a Tenyi Swordsoul opening combo can be, letting them set up their boss monsters will make it extremely hard for the Purrely player to set up to get their own monster on the field. With cards like Baronne, Chengying and Swordsoul Blackout, the player has to carefully work around their Quick-Play Spells.
