Konami has announced a brand-new format that can be played in the TCG version of Yu-Gi-Oh! called the Genesys Format. See what are the fundamental changes between the traditional format and Genesys, as well as the chances of the format coming to Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel here!
List of Contents
There is a good chance Genesys Format could be added to Master Duel as an officially playable game mode, as the Point System of the format would be relatively easy to incorporate over.
Should it be added, expect a filter for the Points System to be added in the Decks menu to keep track of the total points the Deck List has.

Theoretically, Duelists can already play Genesys Format in Master Duel by using the Duel Room and setting the banlist restriction to Unlimited. Players can just create Decks based on the format's rules afterwards. Though this means you either have to enter a room that is dedicated in playing Genesys, or play with people from your Friend list planned ahead of time.
Keep in mind that the current list of cards affected in Genesys Format has cards that have not yet been released in Master Duel, such as the Dracotail, Mitsurugi and K-9 archetypes.
The Genesys Format is a brand-new format announced for in Yu-Gi-Oh!, complete with changes to rules and fundamental mechanics to the card game.
This is currently set for the TCG version of the game, and is announced to be more of a community-led format.

The first big change in Genesys Format is the reveal that Pendulum Monsters and Link Monsters are not allowed in this format.
They will be completely removed from the format's card pool, including different versions of Pendulum Monsters that are also classified as Fusion, Synchro, Ritual and Xyz.

With the removal of Link Monsters from Genesys Format, this also means that the Extra Monster Zones will be removed from the Field as well.
This means the original format of the Field prior to Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Master Rule 4 will be used: five Monster Zones, five Spell/Trap Zones, and one Field Spell Zone on each side.
Another interesting thing to note is that there is no Forbidden and Limited Card List for the Genesys Format. Just about every single card that can be used in proper Yu-Gi-Oh! duels are legal in Genesys Format.
However, in place of the banlist to balance Decks is a new Points System that will balance Decks from using too many of the strongest cards in the game's history.
Master Duel Banlist November 2025
As mentioned, in the place of a ban list to limit card usage is the Points System. This will ensure that players must think over the construction of their Deck and discourage them from using too many of the best cards in the game.
Cards that have significant power compared to the rest of the pool will have a designated point assigned to them. The higher the assigned point, the stronger the perceived strength it carries into a Duel.
Raigeki5 Points |
Pot of Greed30 Points |
Abyss Dweller100 Points |
For example, from the official announcement, Raigeki is assigned to have 5 points. Pot of Greed, a card that has been banned in all formats since the early days of the TCG and OCG, will have 30 points. Abyss Dweller, who just got recently marked as Forbidden in both TCG and Master Duel, will make use of 100 points by itself!

The total Point Cost will be combined from the cards used in both the Main Deck and Extra Deck.
Players will have to get smart and creative in their Deck Construction, as with the points system comes a ceiling they must follow. Decks cannot go over an assigned Point Cost Cap, which might differ depending on the rules.
According to the announcement, the standard Point Cap for Genesys is set to 100 points. Players can check out the full list of cards initially affected in its introduction in the official Yu-Gi-Oh! Website, along with their assigned point value.
