Gaia Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Gaia the Fierce Knight is one of the Fan Favorite monsters in the gameas it is used by Yugi in the anime.
Gaia is an archetype of Warrior type monsters that are commonly fused with Dragon monsters like Curse of Dragon.

Gaia is a deck that can easily dish out large damage in one turn. It favors going second as it can easily run monsters with high attack points.

Gaia decks excel well when going second as they can go all out during the Battle phase.

Gaia the Magical Knight Soldier Gaia the Fierce Knight Artillery Catapult Turtle Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon Curse of Dragonfire

Gaia the Magical Knight is the deck's combo starter. It can be Normal Summoned without Tribute if you control no monsters or if your opponent has a monster with 2300 ATK or more. This card's name is also treated as Gaia the Fierce Knight making it a viable fusion material and it also benefits from Gaia the Fierce Knight support cards.

This is a combo starter as it Special Summons a Level 5 Dragon monster from hand or graveyard.

Soldier Gaia the Fierce Knight can act as a form of disruption thanks to its Quick Effect that lets you Special Summon itself by Tributing a Dragon Fusion monster you control. Upon summon, it can change the battle position of 1 Attack Position monster on the field.

Artillery Catapult Turtle serves as another copy of Gaia or any Level 5 Dragon as it can Special Summon them by tributing a monster.

Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon is the main searcher of Spell card of the deck. It is also the main fusion material for any Gaia's Fusion.

Curse of Dragonfire is an alternative fusion material option for the deck. It also has an effect that let you fusion summon without spell cards.

Spiral Fusion Galloping Gaia Gateway to Chaos Spiral Spear Strike

Spiral Fusion is the deck's main Fusion Spell card. It also strengthens Gaia's Attack by 2600 points as well as gives it the ability to attack twice on monsters.

Galloping Gaia lets you go uninterrupted during the battle phase as your opponent cannot activate any effects if you have a Gaia the Dragon Champion monster on the field.

Gateway to Chaos is a field card that lets you search for a Gaia the Fierce Knight monster.

Spiral Spear Strike gives your Gaia monsters a piercing effect.

Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion Gaia the Magical Knight of Dragons

Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion is the deck's main attacker. It also searches for Spiral Spear Strike upon summon.

Gaia the Magical Knight of Dragons is the deck's alternative boss monster. It has a Quick Effect that lets you destroy a card during the Main Phase by lowering its attack.

Core Combos and Interactions

3-Card Combo

This combo is the bread and butter when going for the kill.

Required Cards
Gaia the Magical Knight + Spiral Fusion + Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon
Step Description
1 Normal Summon Gaia the Magical Knight then activate its effect to Special Summon Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon from your hand.
2 Activate Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon's effect to add Galloping Gaia from the Deck to hand. Then activate Galloping Gaia.
3 Activate Spiral Fusion using Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon, and Gaia the Magical Knight as materials to Fusion Summon Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion.
4 Since Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon was sent to the Graveyard, it will use its effect to negate cards your opponent controls. Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion has an on-summon effect that adds Spiral Spear Strike from the deck to hand then activate it.
5 Proceed to Battle Phase, and attack the monster with the lowest Defense points. Use Sky Galloping Gaia the Dragon Champion's effect to change the target to Defense Position. Spiral Spear Strike will grant your monster Piercing battle damage effect. Do this twice.

Going First Setup

The deck has no strong board when going first, but it can still provide little disruptions.

Required Cards
Gaia the Magical Knight + Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon
Step Description
1 Normal Summon Gaia the Magical Knight then activate its effect to Special Summon Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon from your hand.
2 Activate Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon's effect to add Spiral Fusion from the deck to hand.
3 Activate Spiral Fusion using Curse of Dragon, the Cursed Dragon, and Gaia the Magical Knight as materials to Fusion Summon Gaia the Magical Knight of Dragons.

Note:
