Battlin' Boxer Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Master Duel - Battlin

Battlin' Boxers specialize in maximizing the Battle Phase, with multple effects that provide battle advantage--like being able to attack multiple times. They also specialize in using Counters in order to disrupt the opponent making plays against the Deck.

The Deck is really easy to pilot at first, given the ease of summoning the main Deck "Battlin' Boxer" monsters and swarm the field, but the Extra Deck usage can be quite tricky as Rank 4 monsters are some of the most varied in the game's card pool.

Battlin' Boxer Cards

Master Duel - Battlin

There are some Level 3 and Rank 3 Xyz "Battlin' Boxer" monsters, but for the most part players can just opt to focus on Level 4 and Rank 4 Xyz options instead. This Deck Recipes does thiat to streamline the Deck's efficiency with summoning monsters to get boss monsters out quickly.

Battlin

One of the newest additions to Master Duel, Battlin' Boxer Promoter, serves as the Deck's starter, which finally made the archetype a proper standalone Deck. It can Special Summon itself from the hand if the opponent already controls a monster, and it can also tribute itself to Summon two other "Batllin' Boxer" monsters from the Deck--a perfect setup into an Xyz Summon play.

If the player decides to run Rank 3 and more generic Rank 5 Xyz monsters, it can make use of an effect that increases or decreases the levels of "Batllin' Boxer" monsters they control by 1.

Play at Three Copies Each
Battlin Battlin Battlin

The other cards played at 3 copies are no slouches either. Battlin' Boxer Chief Second provides an additional Normal Summon for the archetype and Special Summon itself to negate an opponent's attack, Battlin' Boxer Sparrer can Special Summon itself when the player controls another "Battlin' Boxer" monster, and Battlin' Boxer Uppercutter lets the player search out "Counter" Counter Trap Cards, or even set it directly on the field.

Adjust Based on Preference
Battlin Battlin Battlin

The rest of the cards in the archetype can be adjusted depending on the player's preference, but at least one copy of each is enough for these cards.

Battlin' Boxer Switchitter Special Summons a fellow "Battlin' Boxer" monster from the Graveyard, but only if this card is Normal Summoned. Battlin' Boxer Shadow has to detach a monster from an Xyz Monster you control to Special Summon it from the hand.

Battlin' Boxer Glassjaw acts more as fodder compared to the rest of the cards in the Deck. It's automatically destroyed when targeted for an attack, but that triggers its effect to add a "Battlin' Boxer" monster from the GY back to the hand.

Battlin Boxing Spirits

On paper, Battlin' Boxing Spirits should be a good Spell Card to extend combos--Special Summon a "Batltin Boxer" monster from the GY. Had it summoned a mosnter from the Deck, or just even add a monster to the hand, this Spell Card would have been tailor-made to be added at 3 copies.

Infernal Knight Engine

Infernoble Knight - Renaud "Infernoble Arms - Durendal"

In a usual Infernoble Knight Deck, Renaud and Durandal are usually the starters for the Deck to begin their combo. Here, it's more of a combo extender, with Renaud being able to Special Summon itself while you control a FIRE monster--which is most of the "Battlin' Boxers" are.

After that, it can be equipped with "Infernoble Arms - Durendal", and then be destroyed by its own effect to search out a Level 5 or lower FIRE Warrior-type monster, also the exact specifications of the archetype.

Counter Traps

There are only a select few of Counter Traps that have "Counter" for the search effect. Each one of the Trap Cards have their own activation conditions.

Battlin

Among the cards, Battlin' Boxing Cross Counter is the most potent to use as it triggers when the opponent uses a monster effect, as it negates the effect of the activated monster, and destroys them afterwards.

The key here is that it needs a "Battlin Boxer" Xyz Monster to be destroyed as cost, as after the effect negation, this Counter Trap can let you summon a different "Battlin Boxer" Xyz Monster, with this card serving as attached material.

Flamvell Counter Jolt Counter

The other two Counter Traps are the only good "Counter" Counter Traps currently available in the game's card pool. Flamvell Counter negates a Spell or Trap Card, while Jolt Counter deals with an effect that is activated during the Battle Phase.

Support Cards

Rank-Up-Magic Barian Reinforcement of the Army Forbidden Droplet

For a Deck that focuses on various Xyz Monsters, Rank-Up-Magic Barian's Force is a great way to get to the stronger Xyz Monsters--specifically the Cxyz monsters that the "Battlin' Boxer" monsters have two of.

Reinforcement of the Army happens to work well for both the "Infernoble" Deck Engine and the entire "Battlin' Boxer" archetype in the Deck. Forbidden Droplet is a clutch Quick-Play Spell that can lower the ATK of the opponent's monsters by half, and negate their effects at the same time.

Extra Deck Monsters

Battlin Battlin

Battlin' Boxer King Dempsey is one of the main boss monsters in the Extra Deck, and most likely the first to be summoned in a combo. It can add Level 4 FIRE Warrior-type monster from the Deck on Special Summon, or a "Battlin' Boxing" Spell or Trap Card for future plays. It can also protect fellow archetype monsters from targeted card effects for a turn as a Quick Effect.

The other "Battlin' Boxer" Xyz Monsters supplement their power in the Battle Phase. Battlin' Boxer Lead Yoke gets stronger each time it detaches a monster from itself, coming from an effect that protects "Battlin' Boxer" monster from being destroyed.

Number 79: Battlin Number 105: Battlin

The Number Xyz Monsters are more aggressive with their effects. Number C79: Battlin' Boxer General Kaiser can atfach a "Battlin' Boxer" monster from the GY to itself as material, gaining ATK for each one. When destroyed, it can Special Summon its monsters from the archetype up to the number of materials attached to it.

The second, Number 105: Battlin' Boxer Star Cestus, can negate the effects of the opponent's monsters if a fellow "Battlin' Boxer" monster does battle. It also makes the opponent's monsters immune to battle destruction, and all the battle damage will go to the opponent instead.

Number F0: Utopic Future Number F0: Utopic Draco Future Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir Abyss Dweller Evilswarm Exciton Knight

The rest of the Xyz Monsters are for support of the archetype. Bagooska slows down the pace of the game, and Abyss Dweller stops GY effects from activating for the rest of the turn.

Evilswarm Exciton Knight can handle Special Summoned monsters. Just in case you want to free up your Monster Zones from Xyz monsters, the combo for Number F0: Utopic Future into Number F0: Utopic Draco Future is available for this Deck.

Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames Amphibious Swarmship Amblowhale

There is some Link Monsters in this Deck, but they serve to support the Battlin' Boxers more than anything. Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights can be summoned after the use of Renaud and Durandal, and then transition into Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames to Special Summon a FIRE monster from the GY.

Using this line, it is recommended to go into Amphibious Swarmship Amblowhale to make use of its synergy with the LINK-3 monster--something Diabellstar Snake-Eye players would be very familiar with.

Core Combos and Interactions

Attention! This portion is in progress, stay tuned until then!

Boss Monsters

Number C79: Battlin' Boxer General Kaiser
Number C79: Battlin For each material attached to it, Number C79: Battlin' Boxer General Kaiser gets an ATK boost. and it can negate a Special Summon by detaching two materials from itself. It also gains a special monster-absorbing effect if it has its predecessor, Number 79: Battlin' Boxer Nova Kaiser attached as material.
Number C105: Battlin' Boxer Comet Cestus
Number C105: Battlin The harder of the two "Number C" Xyz Monsters to summon due to material requirement, Number C105: Battlin' Boxer Comet Cestus deals burn damage equal to half the ATK of a monster it destroys by battle. If it has its predecessor, Number 105: Battlin' Boxer Star Cestus, as material, it earns a card destruction and burn effect rolled into one.
Number F0: Utopic Draco Future
Number F0: Utopic Draco Future With the number of Rank 4 and Rank 5 Xyz Monsters available, going into Number F0: Utopic Draco Future is completely plausible. Being immune to card destruction by battle or card effects is very effective, and it can end up stealing an opponent's monster if this card manages to negate their effect(s).
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder With a number of "Battlin' Boxer" Xyz Monsters being able to get numerous materials, Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder is a powerful option if the mentioned Xyz Monster(s) could attack. Take note that its field-wiping effect does not have a hard once per turn clause--as long as it has materials, it can activate its effect with reckless abandon.

Battlin' Boxer Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Battlin' Boxer

Kashtira

Master Duel - Kashtira

As powerful as the Battlin' Boxers are when it comes to the Battle Phase, if it's Kashtira that's attacking it might be a losing battle, especially if it involves cards like Kashtira Fenrir or Kashtira Arise-Heart.

Kashtira Deck List & Card Guide

Floowandereeze

Floowandereeze

Floowandereeze are still good against Special Summon-centric Decks even with numerous hits in the banlist, and it can make use of powerful floodgates that slow the Duel down to their preferred pace. Especially dangerous is Floowandereeze & Empen, which negates Specail Summoned monsters' effects while they are in Attack Position.

Floowandereeze Deck List & Card Guide

Kaiju

Master Duel - Kaiju

Kaijus and cards similar to them are especially effective at dealing with the "Battlin' Boxer" Xyz Monsters, even before they can make it to the Battle Phase by simply tributing them to be Special Summoned and replace their spot on the field. A set of cards is already troublesome as is, and it only gets worse in a full Kaiju Deck.

Kaiju Deck List & Card Guide

Hungry Burger Nouvelles

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel - Hungry Burger Nouvelles
What makes the Hungry Burger Nouvelle a bad matchup for "Battlin' Boxers" player is that their effects are triggered if the opponent's monsters are in Attack Position, and they will tribute key monsters away for the Ritual Summon--and that includes Xyz Monsters as well.

Best Cards to Tech Against Battlin' Boxer

Evenly Matched
Evenly Matched The only form of negate the Battlin' Boxer has on is a Counter Trap, and for the most part the Counter Traps used are focused on Effect Monsters and negating them. Even with multilpe Xyz Monsters out on the field, one single Evenly Matched will be a disaster for that player.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain Skill Drain neutralizes all the monsters on the field of their effects. This also includes the Battlin' Boxers, making their effects whenever they do battle completely useless. All it takes is paying 1000 LP for this card to stop their offensive advantages.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit For Battlin' Boxers to be able to get to their boss monsters--especially the "Number C" Xyz Monsters, they would most likely have to go to at least 5 summons or more in a single turn. Summon Limit restricts both players to only two summons in a single turn--which is not enough to be able to conduct even a single Xyz Summon in a turn.
Maxx "C"
Maxx "C" Maxx "C" is the bane of all Decks that revolve around Special Summoning to get to their strongest game state on the field. Each Special Summon can earn the user one draw, and on a Deck like "Battlin' Boxer," it is not a risk worth trading to give massive card advantage just to get boss monsters out on the field.
