Despian Predaplant Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Predaplant Banner

Predaplants normally uses Predator Counters to maximize the effects of the archetype's monsters, which can result in card destruction and even card stealing. However, compared to the more dominant Fusion-based archetypes and engines, they lag a little behind in terms of speed.

To help out, this Deck grabs pieces of the strongest Fusion engines to supplement the Deck: the Branded Despia Engine.

Predaplant Chlamydosundew Predaplant Bufolicula Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio

The lack of copies of Polymerization for this Deck comes with the Predaplants, which do have effects that help out with conducting Fusion Summons, may it be through resource managmenet or the Summon itself. Predaplant Chlamydosundew and Predaplant Bufolicula in particular gets special mention for having the ability to conduct a Fusion using its own effect.

Aluber the Jester of Despia Fallen of Albaz Predaplant Verte Anaconda
Branded in Red Branded Fusion Branded Banishment

The Branded Despia Engine allows additional Fusion Summonings of specific DARK-type Fusion Monsters, and maintaining presence on the field. A simple activation of Branded Fusion can result into a powerful monster in Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon, that can banish a face-up monster, and set up Branded Banishment for the next turn.

Core Combos and Interactions

Attention! This portion is in progress of a revamp, stay tuned until then!

Boss Monsters

Predaplant Triphyoverutum
Predaplant Triphyoverutum When Predator Counters are applied onto other monsters, Predaplantt Triphyoverutum becomes ridiculously strong, especially on a field swarmed with monsters for battle. It can also negate Special Summons from the Extra Deck, and this card can also revive itself from the Graveyard so long as there is a monster the opponent controls on the field with a Predator Counter.
Greedy Venom Fusion Dragon
Greedy Venom Fusion Dragon Greedy Venom Fusion Dragon is extremely powerful against other boss monsters, being able to negate their effects and drain their ATK to 0 once per turn. It also has a floating effect to replace itself with a Level 8 or higher DARK monster from the Graveyard; something that this Deck has in spades, especially in the Extra Deck.
Despian Quaeritis
Despian Quaeritis Despian Quaeritis punishes all non-Level 8 or higher Fusion Monsters on the field by draining all of their ATK to 0. It also has a floating effect if this card leaves the field because of the opponent's card effect, having the option to add to hand or Special Summon a Fallen of Albaz, or a Despia monster straight from the Deck.
Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon
Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon still holds credence as a powerful boss monster, able to banish a face-up monster once per turn, and send fellow Fusion Monsters to the GY for it. This provides a good set-up when used in tandem with Albion the Branded Dragon.
Starving Venom Predapower Fusion Dragon
Starving Venom Predapower Fusion Dragon By tributing a monster that has a Predaplant Counter, Greedy Venom Predapower Fusion Dragon can negate the activation of a card or effect. It also has a floating effect which can Special Summon a DARK Fusion Monster from the GY should this card be sent there.

Despian Predaplant Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Predaplant

Eldlich Control

YGO Master Duel - Eldlich Control

The banes of this Deck are having the Summons be bottlenecked, and effects be negated even before they get a chance to be used. Eldlich Control Decks have these in spades, and when set up right can stop any attempts to swarm the field with Fusion Monsters.

Virtual World

Master Duel - Virtual World

Quite a number of cards in this Deck have Graveyard effects, and Fusion Summons are conducted by sending cards as Fusion Material to the Graveyard. Virtual World Decks get to match them, but are far more potent in Extra Deck combos, and can completely deny the Graveyard through the efffect of Virtual World Kyubi - Shenshen.

Virtual World Deck List & Card Guide

Swordsoul

Master Duel - Tenyi Swordsoul

Tenyi Swordsoul Decks have gone on to stake its claim as one of the most consistent Decks in game, having been virtually untouched since debuting in Master Duel. A simple one-card combo can result into two monsters that have multiple monster negates, which can mess up Despian Predaplant Decks.

Tenyi Swordsoul Deck List & Card Guide

Exosisters

Master Duel - Exosisters

Moving cards in and out of the Graveyard is something that Despia is known for, and borrowing that strength for the Predaplant monsters makes them susceptible against the Exosisters. It can end up banishing a number of monsters and slow down the Duel to their pace.

Best Cards to Tech Against Predaplant

Summon Limit
Summon Limit The Deck does require quite a number of Fusion Summons to have a strong presence on the field, and Summon Limit aims to bottleneck that chance. Even though it limits both players to two overall summons, this forces the Predaplant player to make their summons count.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain Skill Drain negates all monster effects on the field, and nearly all of the monsters in this Deck have effects that trigger only when they are on the field. This cripples even the Fusion Deck monsters, but this also affects your own monsters, so be mindful of what you run on your Deck as well.
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring There are a couple of search effects for Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate, and deny any of the archetypes in this Deck card advantage to use to commit to Fusion Summons. There are quite a lot, so having three copies should help out a lot.
Called by the Grave
Called by the Grave While Called by the Grave is an outstanding hand trap Quick-Play Spell that any Deck can run, this card is mainly here to be a hard counter for two specific cards: Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Albion the Branded Dragon.
