T.G. Diabellstar Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Master Duel - T.G. Banner

Tech Genus, or better known shortened as T.G., is an archetype that specializes in Synchro Summoning, to the point of having Synchro Tuner Monsters that can conduct Synchro Summons during the opponent's turn.

While a powerful concept on its own, it does need a bit of support here and there. In this Deck Recipe, it has been bolstered by Deck Engine that debuted with the release of the Ride Into the Future Selection Pack: the Diabellstar Engine.

Diabellstar Engine

Diabellstar the Black Witch WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye Snake-Eye Ash

Taken from the Snake-Eye Deck List & Card Guide, Diabellstar the Black Witch and a handful of cards can serve as a Deck Engine that can strengthen other Decks.

Diabellstar the Black Witch is often the combo starter for this Deck Engine, and for those that like sending cards to the GY, this is a very good card.

On Special Summon, it can set a "Sinful Spoils" Spell or Trap straight from the Deck. Easily, the card to Set and activate afterwards is Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye, which connects this Deck Engine into any Level 1 FIRE monster. In this Deck's case, it's Snake-Eye Ash and T.G. Rocket Salamander.

If Diabellstar isn't on hand, WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils simply adds it from the Deck or GY to the hand. It also has a GY effect; banishing itself lets players retrieve another "Sinful Spoils" Spell or Trap from the GY, place it to the bottom of the Deck, then draws a card.

T.G. Main Deck

T.G. Gear Zombie T.G. Rocket Salamander T.G. Screw Serpent

Among the "T.G." monsters in the Main Deck to have multiple copies of, these three are the most crucial. T.G. Rocket Salamander, having been recently added to Master Duel thanks to the Ride Into the Future Selection Pack, enables the Deck's shenanigans by Special Summoning a Level 1 "T.G.". monster from the Deck, and can Special Summon a Level 4 Machine "T.G." monster from the GY once per turn.

T.G. Gear Zombie can Special Summon itself from the hand by targeting a fellow "T.G." monster and reduce their ATK by 1000. The other monster with multiple copies is T.G. Screw Serpent, which can Special Summon another Level 4 "T.G." monster upon being summoned, and can increase a monster's Level by 1 as a GY effect.

T.G. Booster Raptor T.G. Drill Fish T.G. Tank Grub

T.G. Booster Raptor and T.G. Drill Fish can be Special Summoned from the hand when the player controls another "T.G." monster.

Despite being a Tuner, T.G. Tank Grub can be used for a Synchro Summon as a non-Tuner monster. If it gets used as material, it can summon a Level 1 T.G. Token , which can be used for future plays.

Hand Traps

Droll & Lock Bird Maxx "C" Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Infinite Impermanence

As you need space for your "T.G." monsters, space for hand traps is a little tight. Maxx "C" and Ash Blossom are mandatory in the current meta, and a single copy of Droll & Lock Bird is added to counter searches and fellow users of the EARTH Insect-type hand trap.

Infinite Impermanence is extremely useful if you have it as part of your starting hand during the first turn, as the well-timed used of it can deny the opponent a full combo if they do not have any way to pivot.

Spell & Trap Cards

T.G. All Clear T.G. Limiter Removal

While T.G. All Clear is on the field, "T.G." monsters become Machine-type, and enjoy a small ATK boost. It also provides an additional Normal Summon to a "T.G." monster once per turn.
The Continuous Spell Card is mosty used, however, for its search effect by destroying a "T.G." monster from the hand or field.

To get the needed cards as soon as possible, T.G. Limiter Removal can be used. By discarding a card, it can add two different "T.G." monsters from the Deck. Banishing it from the GY can shuffle a "T.G." monster from the GY back to the Deck, or simply add it back to the hand. Choose wisely, however, as you can only use one of the two effects in a single turn.

T.G. Close

T.G. Close can be searched out as the quintessential Counter Trap against Spells, Traps and Monster effects. Savvy players can cheat out with a neat combo featuring Shooting Star Dragon T.G. EX, as it can be Set from the GY if a Synchro Monster you control gets banished.

Extra Deck Options

T.G. Mighty Striker

T.G. Mighty Striker can Synchro Summon during the opponent's turn, and when sent to the Monster Zone to the GY it searches out a "T.G." card. It can also searches out a "T.G." Spell or Trap when this card is Synchro Summoned.

T.G. Over Dragonar T.G. Star Guardian T.G. Hyper Librarian

Try having T.G. Hyper Librarian on the field for as long as possible before using it as Synchro Material; for every Sycnhro Summon you do, you draw a card. This can easily refill your hand resources after a huge combo play.

T.G. Star Guardian lets players Synchro Summon during the opponent's turn via Quick Effect, which makes access to Level 10 and Level 12 Synchro Summonss very slippery. It also provides a free Special Summon of a "T.G." monster during the Main Phase, and it adds a "T.G." fr om the GY to the hand upon being Special Summoned.

The newest addition to the archetype is T.G. Over Dragonar, which also enables more plays for the archetpye. On Synchro Summon, it Special Summons any number of T.G. monsters from your GY. For "T.G.", it can be compared to Soul Charge without its drawbacks.

T.G. Blade Blaster Shooting Star Dragon T.G. EX T.G. Glaive Blaster T.G. Halberd Cannon

There are four different boss monsters avaialbe for this archetype, all being under the "T.G." archetypes. T.G. Blade Blaster can negate Spells or Traps that target this card once per turn via Quick Effect and a discard. It can also banish itself as a form of protection, and it returns to the Field on the next Standby Phase.

Shooting Star Dragon T.G. EX is one of the newer additions, and has less restrictive materials compared to its original counterpart, Shooting Star Dragon. It can Special Summon itself from the GY by tributing 2 Synchro Monsters, it can negate an attack once per turn, and it has an effect that can negate Spells or Traps that does not have a once-per-turn clause.

The two Level 12 "T.G." Synchro Monsters are key to have on the field as soon as possible. T.G. Halberd Cannon is the original, can negate a summon once per turn, and can Special Summon a fellow "T.G." monster from the GY when sent there itself.

The newer card, T.G. Glaive Blaster can banish a Special Summoned Extra Deck Monster, and it is a Quick Effect that can be potentially used multiple times in a single turn. It can also Special Summon a monster that was banished to its side of the field, completely ignoring Summoning conditions.

TG Trident Launcher

When Link Summoned, T.G. Trident Launcher can Special Summon up to 3 "T.G." monsters onto the Main Monster Zones pointed by its Link Markers--one from the hand, Deck and Graveyard respectfully. While on the field, "T.G." Synchro Monsters are immune to targeted card effects when they are on Monster Zones pointed to by this card.

Upon being Special Summoned, you can retrieve one "T.G." monster from the GY to add back to your hand.
7 (Optional) If you have any more additional plays to do, you can use T.G. Star Guardian's effect to Special Summon a "T.G." monster from the hand.
8 Using T.G. Star Guardian and T.G. Over Dragonar as materials, Synchro Summon Shooting Star Dragon T.G. EX.

One-Card Combo featuring T.G. Limiter Removal

Card Needed
T.G. Limiter Removal
Step Description
1 Activate T.G. Limiter Removal from the hand; discard a card you do not need from your hand, and search out T.G. Rocket Salamander and T.G. Gear Zombie from the Deck.
2 Normal Summon T.G. Rocket Salamander.
Then, trigger the effect of T.G. Gear Zombie from the hand; target Rocket Salamander to make it lose 1000 ATK, then Special Summon itself from the hand.
3 Activate T.G. Rocket Salamander's ; tribute itself, and Special Summon T.G. Screw Serpent from the Deck.
Upon being Special Summoned, trigger the latter card's effect; Special Summon Rocket Salamander back from the GY.
4 Using T.G. Rocket Salamander and T.G. Gear Zombie as materials, Synchro Summon T.G. Mighty Striker.
Trigger T.G. Mighty Striker's effect upon being Synchro Summoned; add T.G. All Clear from the Deck to your hand.
5 Activate T.G. All Clear; target and destroy T.G. Mighty Striker, then add T.G. Tank Grub from the Deck to your hand.
This triggers T.G. Mighty Striker upon being destroyed; send T.G. Close from the Deck to the GY.
6 Because of T.G. All Clear's effect, you can conduct an additional Normal Summon for a "T.G." monster. Use it, and Normal Summon T.G. Tank Grub.
7 Using T.G. Tank Grub and T.G. Screw Serpent as materials, Synchro Summon T.G. Dragon Overnar. Use the Extra Monster Zone for this Synchro Summon.
8 Chain Link 2: T.G. Tank Grub's effect triggers after being used as Synchro Material; summon a T.G. Token onto the field.
Chain Link 1: Trigger the effect of T.G. Dragon Overnar; Special Summon as many "T.G." monsters from the GY as possible. In this case, it's T.G. Tank Grub, T.G. Screw Serpent, T.G. Rocket Salamander and T.G. Mighty Striker.
9 Using the T.G. Token and T.G. Screw Serpent as materials, Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian.
As long as this card is face-up on your side of the field, you draw a card for every Synchro Summon you do afterwards.
10 Because of T.G. All Clear, every "T.G" monster you control on the field is treated as a Machine-type monster. With this, activate the second effect of T.G. Rocket Salamander; Special Summon T.G. Screw Serpent back onto the field.
11 Using T.G. Screw Serpent and T.G. Tank Grub as materials, Synchro Summon T.G. Star Guardian.
Upon being Synchro Summoned, activate its effect; retrieve T.G. Screw Serpent back from the GY to the hand.
12 Using the second effect of T.G Star Guardian, Special Summon T.G. Screw Serpent from the hand.
Then, using it and T.G. Rocket Salamander, Sycnhro Summon a Level 5 non-Tuner Synchro Monster.
In this Deck Recipe's case, it's another copy of T.G. Dragon Overnar.
13 Using the two T.G. Dragon Overnar and T.G. Mighty Striker as materials, Synchro Summon T.G. Glaive Blaster.
Activate the effect of T.G. Glaive Blaster; banish T.G. Star Guaridan. This triggers the effect of T.G. Close from the GY; immediately Set it from there.
15 With T.G. Star Guardian being banished, trigger the second effect of T.G. Glaive Blaster; target Star Guardian, and Special Summon it back onto the field.
Then, using T.G. Star Guardian and T.G. Hyper Librarian as material, Synchro Summon Shooting Star Dragon T.G. EX.

Boss Monsters

Baronne de Fleur
Baronne de Fleur Any Synchro-centric Deck worth its strength in a Duel always rus at least a copy or two of Baronne de Fleur, due to its overall usefulness. A card destruction effect and a omni-negate effect is always useful in any situation.
T.G. Glaive Blaster
T.G. Glaive Blaster The newest of the two Level 12 "T.G." Synchro Monsters, T.G. Glaive Blaster immediately targets a Special Summoned Extra Deck monster(s) the opponent controls, and gets rid of it. If a monster is banished face-up while this card is active, this card can Special Summon it to that player's field.
T.G. Halberd Cannon
T.G. Halberd Cannon T.G. Halberd Cannon is the original boss monster of the archetype, and for good reason. It can negate a summon once per turn, and has a floating effect that replaces itself with any "T.G." monster in your GY.
Cosmic Quasar Dragon
Cosmic Quasar Dragon Cosmic Quasar Dragon can be Special Summoned like the other Level 12 Synchro Monsters in this Deck, but it can also be brought out with the help of Crimson Dragon. It can negate monsters based on the number of materials this monster used to be summoned, and can replace itself with any Level 12 Synchro Summon monster that requires the same materials as this card.
Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity
Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity Much like Cosmic Quasar Dragon, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity is most likely going to be brought out with the help of Crimson Dragon. When summoned, the opponent can no longer activate cards or effects for the rest of the turn, and the opponent cannot respond to this card's activation.

Best Decks to Use Against T.G. Diabellstar

Floowandereeze

Floowandereeze

Floowandereeze Decks can completely ignore Special Summons, as their playstyle of continuous Normal Summons are a counter of their own against T.G. Once they have their key cards set up, it can be incredilbly hard to win through sheer aggression.

Labrynth

Labrynth

In the current meta, there is no better Control Deck right now than Labrynth, because of their heavy use of Trap Cards and protection of them. They can even Set and activate Trap Cards on your own turn, which will be extremely difficult to deal with.

Runick

Runick

The Runick archetype has received mutliple hits in the banlist over the months, but their versatility to be used in multiple Decks that can make use of them gives them unpredictability. Their Quick-Play Spells will definitely interrupt plays, and can easily Deck out the player.

Mannadium

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel - Mannadium

Within the Synchro Summon playstyle, the current meta's top Deck is the Mannadium Deck, due to their consistency, flexibility with different archetypes, and ability to Special Summon extremely powerful monsters in one fell swoop.

Mannadium Deck List & Card Guide

Best Cards to Tech Against T.G. Diabellstar

Maxx "C"
Maxx "C" Maxx "C" is easily the Deck's strongest counter, because of the nature of Synchro Summon Decks dealing with multiple Special Summons. Once this is active, unless hand traps are avaialble there are only two options: stopping the combo, or forcing to deal with giving the opponent masive card advantage.
Droll & Lock Bird
Droll & Lock Bird Searching effects are prominent for Synchro-centric Decks, and T.G. Decks are no exception. Droll & Lock Bird will stop all card additions from the Deck to the hand, but remember that it goes both ways. Its effect stops you as well.
Dark Ruler No More
Dark Ruler No More Most of the power of a Synchro Deck like T.G. comes from their boss monsters and having multiple of them on the field. However, a single Dark Ruler No More will render them all ineffective. It might stop you from dealing damage for the rest of the turn, but it is a good trade-off from breaking a nigh-unbreakable field.
Dimensional Barrier
Dimensional Barrier There is only one non-Synchro Monster in the Extra Deck of this T.G. Deck Recipe. The moment a Trap-centric player finds that out, they can use Dimensional Barrier to prevent you from activating Synchro Monsters' effects, and even stop you from Synchro Summoninig outright until the end of the turn.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit T.G.'s usual combos will most definitely require more than 5 monster summons in a single turn. Summon Limit will effectively stop the Deck's plays until they deal with this Continuous Trap Card.
