Control Deck that gets stronger if the user has more Life Points than the opponent's Effects range from card destruction to effect negation, all while gaining more and more LP Some of its advantages depend on the Continuous Spells/Traps
|
The Aroma archetype revolves around messing around with both players' Life Points in order to gain advantage. To be more specific, the Deck goes online when the player using it has more Life Points or gains Life Points during the Duel.
Each monster has at least two effects; one that are automatically active if your Life Points are higher than your opponent's, and one that triggers after gaining LP regardless of amount.
Card | Effects Involving LP |
---|---|
Aromage Laurel | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, can be Special Summoned from the hand ・After gaining LP, treats a non-Tuner Plant Monster as a Tuner ・When sent to the GY, gain 500 LP |
Aromaseraphy Angelica | ・Gain LP by discarding this card and targeting an "Aroma" monster in GY ・Can Special Summon itself from GY when LP is higher than opponent's while controlling an "Aroma" monster |
Aromage Jasmine | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, provides one additional Normal Summon for an "Aroma" monster ・After gaining LP, draw 1 card |
Aromage Cananga | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, their monsters on the field lose 500 ATK/DEF ・After gaining LP, target 1 Spell/Trap Card they control to return to the hand |
Aromage Rosemary | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, monster effects cannot be activated if your Plant-type monster attacks ・After gaining LP, target 1 monster to change its battle position |
Aromage Marjoram | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, take no battle damage from attacks involving your Plant-type monsters ・Special Summon this card from the hand if a Plant-type monster is destroyed by battle, then gain 500 LP ・After gaining LP, banish cards from the opponent's GY equal to the number of "Aroma" monsters you control |
Keep in mind which cards are on the field whenever you gain LP to check on what advantages you can gain immediately. Ideally, you'd want to have at least either Aromage Jasmine, Aromage Rosemary and Aromage Cananga on the field immediately, with either Aromaseraphy Angelica or Aromage Marjoram on hand.
As soon as possible, try to get Aroma Garden active as your Field Spell. It's a free way to gain LP and provide an additional stat boost all "Aroma" monsters you control.
There are four continuous Spells and Traps to consider, and as much as possible all four of them should be on the field as soon as possible. Aroma Gardening is the one that should be on the field first, as Summoning an "Aroma" monster instantly gains you 1000 LP. It also provides a free Special Summon if your own LP is lower than your opponent's, and one of their monster launches an attack.
The three Continuous Traps are utility tools for the Deck, each one providing advantage and control. Blessed Winds provides LP to recycle cards, and can Special Summon an "Aroma" monster for an LP cost. Dried Winds destroys a card if you gain LP, and paying a certain amount can destroy all monsters whose combined ATK is less than the cost. Humid Winds is a free LP gain, and doubles as a search effect with a cost.
Card | Effects Involving LP |
---|---|
Aromaseraphy Rosemary | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, your Plant-type monsters gain 500 ATK/DEF ・After gaining LP, target a card their opponent controls to have their effects negated for the rest of the turn |
Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, your Plant-type monsters are immune to targeting effects ・After gaining LP, target 1 card on the field to be destroyed |
Aromaseraphy Jasmine | ・When LP is higher than opponent's, itself and cards it points to with its Link Markers cannot be destroyed by battle ・After gaining LP, add 1 Plant-type monster from the Deck to the hand |
The archetype's Extra Deck monsters have the same conditions of having effects while having more LP or you gain LP. Ideally, having all three on the field at once should be a chance, but for maximum protection on the field, Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram is the ideal monster to have on the field most of the time.
Plant-type support cards are rare, but it can be worked on depending on how the player builds their Aroma Deck. For this one, Special Summons and effects are crucial to maintain presence on the board, in order to continue with the LP strategy.
Evil Thorn makes for a great combo starter, as it can tribute itself to Special Summon two copies of itself onto the field, while dealing burn damage to the opponent. They can be immediately used as materials for Sylvan Dancepione, whose excavation effect can potentially allow the Special Summon of at most two Plant-type monsters.
Spore is a Level 1 Tuner, meaning it can be used to Synchro Climb to higher Level Synchro Monsters. It can also Special Summon itself from the GY, while increasing its Level based on the Plant-type monster it banishes for this effect.
Speaking of Synchro Monsters, Black Rose Dragon has surprising synergy with the Deck. Usually summoned for its ability to clear the entire field, it also has an effect involving Plant-type monsters: banish one from your GY, target a monster they control in Defense Position, and drain their ATK to 0. Meanwhile, Periallis, Empress of Blossoms provides a boost to your Plant-type monsters, and can Special Summon a Level 5 or higher monsters on the field once per turn.

Step | Description |
1 | Activate Aroma Gardening. |
2 | Activate One for One; discard Aromage Marjoram, and Special Summon Evil Thorn. Then, activate its effect; tribute itself, deal 300 damage to the opponent, then Special Summon two copies of itself onto the Field. |
3 | Using the two copies of Evil Thorn as materials, Link Summon Sylvan Dancepione. Then, activate its effect upon being Link Summoned; excavate 3 cards from the top of your Deck, and Special Summon up to two Plant-type monsters that were excavated. For this combo, the cards excavated were the Spell Card Aroma Garden, and the monsters Spore and Aromage Jasmine. Also, make sure to place one of the two monsters on the Monster Zones pointed to by Dancepione's Link Markers. Spore is the recommended monster to place there. |
4 | Upon Special Summoning Aromage Jasmine, this triggers the effect of Aroma Gardening; gain 1000 LP immediately on resolution. This triggers Aromage Jasmine to activate its own effect; draw a card for free. For this combo, let's assume the drawn card is Aromaseraphy Angelica. |
5 | Activate the second effect of Sylvan Dancepione; target Aromage Marjoram in the GY, then make the Level of monsters pointed by its Link Markers (Spore) Level 5. |
6 | Using the Level 5 Spore and Aromage Jasmine as materials, Synchro Summon Periallis, Empress of Blossoms. Activate its effect afterwards; Special Summon Armorage Marjoram from the GY back onto the field. |
7 | Normal Summon Aromage Jasmine from the hand. Its effect of being able to Normal Summon another "Aromage" monster; in which case, Normal Summon Aromaseraphy Angelica. |
8 | Using Sylvan Dancepione and Aromaseraphy Angelica as materials, Link Summon Aromaseraphy Jasmine. |
9 | Use the effect of Aromaseraphy Jasmine; tribute Armage Jasmine, then Special Summon Aromage Bergamot. Then, activate Aromaseraphy Angelica from the GY; Special Sumon itself back onto the field. |
10 | Using Aromage Majoram and Aromaseraphy Angelica as mateirals; Synchro Summon Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram. Upon being Synchro Summoned, search out Blessed Winds from the hand; Set it immediately afterwards. |
The current flavor of the month as of writing, Snake-Eye Diabellstar has not hit full power yet and is already one of the best Decks of the meta, contesting the top spot. Combo lines featuring this Deck are numerous, and it's far too many for the Amorage Deck to deal with.
Snake-Eye Deck List & Card Guide
Superheavy Samurai currently ties with Snake-Eye Diabellstar for some of the strongest card combos in the current meta, and its endboard has multiple negates on the field. And much like Snake-Eyes Diabellstar has far too many monster effects for an Amorage Deck to stop, even with a full setup.
Superheavy Samurai Deck List & Card Guide
Kashtira punishes the usage of monster effects while its main monsters are on the field, and with a powerful card like Kashtira Arise-Heart reserved in the Extra Deck, Graveyard effects might not be enough to save Amorage players.
Kashtira Deck List & Card Guide
Targeted effects might be the one thing Amorage Decks might not like the most, especially for its Continuous Spells and Continuous Traps. Runick Control Decks will have no problem dismantling the strengths of this Deck, one Quick-Play Spell at a time.
