World Chalice Magikey Breakdown

World Chalice Magikey Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

The Magikeys are have a very unique playstyle where Normal Monsters are part of the core strategy; a trait not most Decks have in this meta of Effect Monsters. The idea is that the Normal Monsters are used to Summon Extra Deck and Ritual Monsters, and they can be recycled as much as possible to keep resources flowing.

Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster.png Magikey World.png Magikey Maftea.png

The three core cards of Magikeys are Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster, Magikey World and Magikey Maftea. Clavkiys is the most used fodder for the Special Summons, and it can be searched out upon activating the Magikey World Field Spell.

Magikey Maftea is a very important card that the Magikey archetype plays around. It is essentially a Polymerization and a Ritual Spell combined into one, and Magikeys have both types of monsters as boss monsters. It even gains an additional effect when one of the materials used is a Normal Monster, encouraging the player to use Clavkiys as much as possible.

Magical Maftea is the key to summoning the Fusion and Ritual Monsters of the archetype, and all most of the monsters have trigger effects upon being Fusion Summoned or Ritual Summoned. The archetype's boss monsters have effects that check the monsters in the GY having different attributes, encouraging the player to keep Special Summoning to get as many affinities in there quickly.

For Fusion Monsters, Magikey Beast - Ansyalabolas can recycle a copy of Magikey Mafteta from the GY back to the hand, and gains a nice battle effect if it fights a monster with the same attribute as a monster in your own GY. Meanwhile, Magikey Dragon - Andrabime simply prevents the opponent from activating cards or effects upon being Fusion Summoned. An in-built Raigeki effect against monsters matching the attribute of a chosen monster in the GY, and draw power if it destroys a monster with the matching attribute effect by battle.

The Ritual Monsters are as crucial as the Fusion Monsters. Magikey Mechmusket - Batosbuster searches out a Magikey card from the Deck when Ritual Summoned, and an attack-negating effect if it uses its affinity-based effect. On the other hand, Magikey Mechmortar - Garesglasser is the beatstick Ritual monster, gaining ATK for each monster with a different attribute in the GY, and gains an omni-negate effect if you used two monsters with different affinities. If sent to the GY, it activates a search effect.

To help out the Magikey archetype, the World Chalice monsters are brought in - another archetype that uses Normal Monsters as part of their core playstyle. This engine also opens up access to Link Monsters, since the archetype is known for their Link Summoning capabilities. Lastly, the engine works because the Main Deck monsters all have different attributes, covering 5 out of the 7 attributes among monsters: Water, Wind, Earth, Fire and Dark.

Core Combos and Interactions

Easy Baronne de Fleur Combo

As of the September 30 banlist update, Crystron Halqifibrax has been moved into Forbidden Cards list.
This card cannot be played in Casual Matches or in Ranked Matches.

Baronne de Fleur is one of the newest Synchro Monsters introduced into Master Duel, and for its simplicity in required materials its effects

1 Using two monsters, one of which being a Tuner monster, Link Summon Crystron Halqifibrax.
2 Upon being Link Summoned, use Crystron Halqifibrax's effect to Special Summon Deskbot 001 from the hand or the Deck.
3 Using the LINK-2 Cystron Halqifibrax and Deskbot 001 as materials, Link Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon.
4 Upon Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon being Link Summoned, Special Summon 3 Level 3 Machine-type Tokens on the field
5 Because of Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon's effect of Special Summoning multiple Machine-type monsters, you can Special Summon Deskbot 001 from the Graveyard back onto the field.
6 Using Deskbot 001 and the 3 Level 3 Tokens, Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur.

Magikey Beast Opening

With three copies of Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster in the Deck, there's a good chance you can open the Duel with one in your hand. This combo should work if you also happen to have Lee the World Chalice Fairy and Magikey Maftea as well.

1 Normal Summon Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster, and immediately use it as material to Link Summon Imduk the World Chalice Dragon.
2 Activating the effect of Imduk the World Chalice Dragon, do a second Normal Summon with Lee the World Chalice Fairy; upon being Normal Summoned, you can search out a copy of World Chalice Guardragon.
3 Using both Imduk the World Chalice Dragon and Lee the World Chalice Fairy as materials, Link Summon Cross-Sheep.
4 Upon being sent to the GY, activate the effect of Imduk the World Chalice Dragon, and Special Summon the World Chalice Guardragon you just searched out earlier.
5 While Lee the World Chalice Fairy is in the GY, activate its effect; send World Chalice Guardragon from the field to the GY, and add Lee back to your hand. This triggers World Chalice Guardragon's effect, target Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster in your GY and Special Summon it back to your field.
6 Activate Magikey Maftea from the hand, using the Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster in your field, and another Normal Monster from your Deck to Fusion Summon Magikey Beast - Ansyalabolas. Make sure to place the card to one of the Monster Zones the Link Markers of Cross-Sheep are pointing to.
7 Once Magikey Beast - Ansyalabolas is Fusion Summoned to one of the Zones Cross-Sheep is pointing to, activate its effect; chain it with the effect of Ansyalabolas as it triggers upon being Fusion Summoned. Chain 2 lets you recycle the Magikey Maftea you just used, and Chain 1 should let you Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from the GY.
Gems Tip! You can chain this combo into the Baronne de Fleur Combo by using the Special Summoned Monster and Cross-Sheep as materials to Link Summon Crystron Halqifibrax.

Ritual Summoning Opening

This is better used if you you happen to have some Ritual Monsters and Magikey World in your starting hand. It does not matter if you go first or second with this combo.

1 Activate Magikey World, and add a copy of Magikey Mechmusket - Batosbuster to your hand.
2 Normal Summon Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands to add a copy of Advanced Ritual Art from the Deck to your hand
3 Activate Ancient Ritual Art; send a Normal Monster from the Deck (preferably Angel Trumpeter) to the Graveyard as tribute, to Ritual Summon the Magikey Mechmusket - Batosbuster you searched out earlier.
4 Upon being Ritual Summoned, activate the effect of Magikey Mechmusket - Batosbuster to search out a copy of Magikey Maftea from the Deck to your hand.
5 Activate the Magikey Mafttea you just searched out, choose Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and another Normal Monster in your Deck as materials, and Ritual Summon Magikey Mechmortar - Garesglasser. Make sure the materials used have different attributes!
Gems Tip! You can chain this combo into the Baronne de Fleur Combo by using the Special Summoned Monster and Cross-Sheep as materials to Link Summon Crystron Halqifibrax.

Boss Monsters

Baronne de Fleur
Baronne de Fleur One of the newest Synchro Monsters additions to the game, Baronne de Fleur's generic material requirements make it an easy addition to the Deck. Its omni-negate effect and ability to destroy a card per turn can be very disruptive when left undisturbed.
Borreload Savage Dragon
Borreload Savage Dragon Borreload Savage Dragon works with this Deck due to its affinity with Link Monsters, and this Deck makes use of both Synchros and Link monsters in the Extra Deck. This is potentially a late-game powerhouse that can negate crucial effects, so long as it can equip a Link Monster from the GY to determine how many times it can negate effects.
Accesscode Talker
Accesscode Talker Accesscode Talker remains a staple among Decks that heavily use Link Monsters and Main Deck Effect monsters. It has the chance to enjoy a 3000 ATK boost when it uses Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon as material, and has the ability to destroy cards on the field by banishing Link Monsters from your GY.
Magikey Dragon - Andrabime
Magikey Dragon - Andrabime Magikey Dragon - Andrabime already becomes a threat when it is Fusion Summoned, as the opponent is then locked out from activating cards or effects immediately. Its in-built Raigeki effect against same-attribute monsters as one from your Graveyard is also hard to deal with, and can even provide draw power if it attacks after conditions are fulfilled.
Magikey Mechmotar - Garesglasser
Magikey Mechmortar - Garesglasser Magikey Mechmortar - Garesglasser can enjoy a possible 1800 ATK boost if you manage to get monsters with six different attributes in your Graveyard. This card also gains a negate quick effect when monsters of different attributes were used to summon this card.

Lower Rarity Replacements

SR/UR Replacements
Terraforming Planet Pathfinder Pseudo Space

Terraforming is crucial in searching out Magikey World, which is often used as the start of a combo. If you can't afford Terraforming just yet, cheaper alternatives can come in Planet Pathfinder and Pseudo Space.

SR/UR Replacements
Unexpected Dai Double Summon Swing of Memories

Unexpected Dai is very helpful in getting a Normal Monster out on the field fast. Should you need of an alternative, however, Double Summon can work well by instead providing you with an additional Normal Summon, which should benefit the non-Ritual Monsters greatly. If you have a couple of the already in the GY, Swing of Memories can be of great use as well; just remember to use the Special Summoned Normal Monster or it gets destroyed by the End Phase.

World Chalice Magikey Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against World Chalice Magikey

Virtual World

Virtual World Banner.png

Virtual Worlds love banishing cards instead of sending them to the GY; this derives the World Chalice Magikey a bit of its strength, since it does often use the Graveyard as a secondary resource pool to keep recycling cards like Magikey Maftea and Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster.

Virtual World Deck Guide

True Draco

True Draco.png

A beatdown Deck that enforces pure battle through negating effects as much as possible with Skill Drain and True Draco effects. Most of the Main Deck monsters in World Chalice Magikey are fairly weak on their own, and does need the boost of Effect Monsters and Extra Deck monsters for its firepower.

Eldlich Control

YGO Master Duel - Eldlich Control Deck Guide Banner.png

Another Beatdown Deck with powerful Control on the side, Eldlich has quite a number of disruptions that could be annoying to deal with if you're using World Chalice Magikey. This match up will depend on how you can deal with Eldlich itself and negate either its myriad of Traps, or its Special Summon effect.

Best Cards to Tech Against World Chalice Magikey

Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure As mentioned above, World Chalice Magikey uses the Graveyard as a sort of secondary resource pool for its card, as there are quite a number of recycle effects that refresh certain cards. Dimensional Fissure denies this Deck the GY, preventing any recycle effects and crucial cards like Advanced Ritual Art and Desktop 001.
Dark Ruler No More
Dark Ruler No More At the cost of not being able to not deal any damage this turn, Dark Ruler No More can negate the effects of monsters on the field, which can neutralize threats like Borreload Savage Dragon, Baronne de Fleur and Accesscode Talker with their effects.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit This Deck primarily uses combos that needs quite a lot of Summons, whether Normal or Special. Summon Limit bottlenecks the ability of the Deck to swarm the field to get to their stronger monsters in the Extra Deck, making them very careful to pick their Summons.
Imperial Order
Imperial Order Imperial Order could be considered a hard counter for the entire Deck, as it World Chalice Magikey does need its Spells to do Fusion or Ritual Summons, which are core monster card types for this Deck. This essentially prevents the Deck from playing the game, only relying on its monsters for presence on the field.
