Budget Despia Breakdown

Budget Despia Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

For players that are just starting out in Master Duel, or are looking out to test the Branded/Despia Deck without having to spend a lot of resources, this budget variant should be a good way to learn how the archetype mechanics work, and let the player explore while getting stronger cards and synergy with other archetypes.

Aluber the Jester of Despia Despian Tragedy Albion the Shrouded Dragon Dramaturge of Despia Despia, Theater of the Branded

The Despia Engine allows additional Fusion Summonings of specific DARK-type Fusion Monsters, and maintaining presence on the field. Despia, Theater of the Branded further boosts the ability to Fusion Summon as it can conduct one, and provides a floating effect should you have any Level 8 or higher Fusion Monster in the Graveyard.

If you plan to use this Deck as a base and then branch off into possible variations, keep this engine in mind and its proficiency to conduct some with ease.

Core Combos and Interactions

Branded Fusion

This is a simple way of Summoning Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon using only 1 card.

Cards like Aluber the Jester of Despia, Springans Kitt, and Branded Opening can easily fetch Branded Fusion from the Deck to hand.

Required Cards On Hand
Branded Fusion
1 Activate Branded Fusion to send Fallen of Albaz and Despian Tragedy from the Deck to the GY to Fusion Summon Lubellion the Searing Dragon
2 Activate Lubellion's effect by discarding 1 card to Fusion Summon as Chain Link 1. Activate Despian Tragedy's effect to add Ad libitum of Despia from the Deck to hand as Chain Link 2.
3 With Lubellion's effect, Fusion Summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon by shuffling Lubellion and Fallen of Albaz back to the Deck.
Note: In Step 2, you can add Aluber the Jester of Despia if you still have a Normal Summon for the Turn. Use Aluber's effect to add Branded in Red and Set it facedown to prepare for the next turn.

Boss Monsters

Despian Quaeritis
Despian Quaeritis Despian Quaeritis is the ace monster of this Deck, and its effect is very helpful in battles, draining the ATK of all non-Level 8 Fusion Monsters to 0. Should it leave the field face-up because of an opponent's card effect, this card triggers a floating effect to add to the hand or Special Summon a Fallen of Albaz or a fellow Despia monster.
Albion the Branded Dragon
Albion the Branded Dragon Albion the Branded Dragon immediately prompts another Fusion Summon for a Level 8 or lower Fusion Monster after this card itself is Fusion Summoned first. It can also use itself as material, and when this card is sent to the Graveyard you can Set or add a Branded card from the Deck to your hand.
Brigrand the Glory Dragon
Brigrand the Glory Dragon Brigand the Glory Dragon is already a strong monster for being indestructible in battle. It also redirects all targeted card effects to itself, protecting your other monsters in the process. It also has a floating effect for Fallen or Albax, or even a Tri-Brigade monster (if you added one) that can be added or Special Summoned.
Despian Proskenion
Despian Proskenion Despian Proskenion is the most dangerous Extra Deck monster in this Deck, as it effectively counters the opponent's Extra Deck through its ability to either banish or steal a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Link monster from the opponent's Graveyard. On top of that, it inflicts burn damage equivalent to the ATK or DEF of the monster this card destroys by battle.

Best Decks to Use Against Budget Despia

Eldlich Control

YGO Master Duel - Eldlich Control Deck Guide Banner.png

Eldlich Control Decks is the bane for combo Decks due to the sheer number of disruptions and bottleneck effects it carries. Alongside the titular Eldlich the Golden Lord, and with floodgates like Skill Drain and Imperial Order, this Deck can easily disrupt any game plans Despia Decks can bring to the table.

Despian Predaplant

Despian Predaplant Top Image.png

This version of the Despia Deck uses the Predaplant archetype, known for being aggressive with their monsters and their effects. If done right, the Predaplant monsters can end up stealing the monsters that you control through Predator Counters. Not only that, it also has Super Polymerization on hand, and the Predaplants can make good use of your own Despia monsters, which are affiliated with the DARK affinity.

Numeron

Numeron Deck Top Image.png

The only cards that stop the Numeron OTK strategy on this Deck is Forbidden Chalice and Paleozoic Dinomischus. Without that, the very crucial effect of the Xyz Monsters gets to push through, raise their ATK with each attack, and can deal lethal damage if you do not have any way to block the attack or negate its ATK boost.

Best Cards to Tech Against Budget Despia

Vanity's Emptiness
Vanity So long as Vanity's Emptiness remains active on the field, Special Summons are effectively locked out for both players. Your benefit is that you get to determine when to destroy this card by fulfilling its condition of sending a crd from the Deck straight to the GY.
Interrupted Kaiju Slumber
Interrupted Kaiju Slumber You have to have at least two Kaiju monsters to run this Interrupted Kaiju Slumber, but this card can effectively wipe a Despia player's front row and replace it with a monster of your choosing to your advantage. It also only sends monsters to the GY, not destroy them; the wording of the effect lets you bypass ignition effects that trigger if that Monster CArd gets destroyed.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain Skill Drain debilitates effect monsters as long as the card is active on the field, and for Despia monsters that is not a good situation. All of the monster cards in this Deck list are Effect Monsters, and crucual ones need to be on the field to activate their effects. Despia users will try to adjust this recipe to be able to deal with this card.

Please update the deck and combo section. I noticed your combo involving summoning Masquerade but your deck list doesn’t have Masquerade. And also your deck isn’t up to date with the banlist. Aluber x2, Herald of Orange x1, Branded Opening x2
