Zoodiac Tri-Brigade Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Link Summon from the Graveyard

As with all Tri-Brigade decks, the win condition is to fill your Graveyard with Beast, Beast-Warrior, and Winged Beast monsters in a certain combinations to link summon from the graveyard instead of the field. This Tri-Brigade variant comes with the Zoodiac engine as well, making it easier to wrestle for an advantage on the board by Xyz summoning all the way up to Zeus in a single turn. You can even transition from one combo to the other during the same turn in certain situations and hands.

Beat Opponents Down

Accesscode Talker Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen

Once the board is yours, maintain the position with powerful hand traps and link summons that negate, destroy, or banish the opponent's key plays and combos while you finish them off with boss monsters such as Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen and Accesscode Talker.

Core Combos and Interactions

[Tri-Brigade] Turn 1 Apollousa Opener (Fraktall)

This opener comes revolves around your Tri-Brigade engine starting with Fraktall on your hand with one more Tri-Brigade. This combo ends with Appollousa and Tri-Brigade Revolt on your board for the Turn 2 OTK.

1 Activate Fraktall's effect from your hard. Send Kitt to the Graveyard. Activate Kitt's effect to send Nervall to the Graveyard. Fetch either Kerass or Fraktall from your deck.
2 Normal summon a Tri-Brigade monster on the board and activate it's summoning effect. Perform a Link 2 Summon to bring Ferrijit on the board.
3 Activate Ferrijit's effect to summon another Tri-Brigade monster from your hand. Tribute Ferrijit and your old Tri-Brigade monster to summon Bearbrumm (never tribute the one you just summoned).
4 Activate the new Tri-Brigade monster's effect to summon either Double Dragon or Hraesvelgr. Summon Apollousa with all three monsters on the board afterward. Activate Bearbrumm's Graveyard effect to fetch Tri-Brigade Revolt from your deck to your hand. Set the trap on the field.
Gems Tip! Be mindful of your hand size as Ferrijit's and Bearbrumm's GY abilities make you put a card from your hand back into the deck after drawing a card. You can skip Bearbrumm in Step 3 and skip ahead to Apollousa after activating Ferrijit if you already have Revolt on your hand.

[Tri-Brigade] Turn 2 Shuraig + Accesscode Talker OTK

The follow-up to your Apollousa opener from Turn 1. This can be done regardless if you used the Fraktall or Rescue Cat version.

1 Activate Tri-Brigade Revolt on the Opponent's End Turn, taking at least four monsters from the Graveyard or Banish. Summon Shuraig and activate it's effect to banish an opponent's card if necessary.
2 Normal summon any Tri-Brigade Monster from your hand. Activate it's effect and Link 3 Summon Rugal. You can activate Shuraig's banish effect again if necessary once Rugal is summoned.
3 Link 4 Summon Accesscode Talker with Rugal and the Tri-Brigade Monster you used to summon it. Boost Accesscode Talker's attack using Rugal.
4 Open up the opponent's side of the board with Accesscode Talker's effect if necessary. Finish the game by directly attacking with Shuraig and Accesscode Talker (8300 damage total).
Gems Tip! Check the state of the board and your opponent's hand before attempting final two steps of the OTK! It's important that you can open your opponent up for direct attacks, so make sure you can clear a path with Shuraig and Accesscode Talker's effects first. Having hand traps such as Called by the Grave , Ash Blossom, and Infinite Impermanence on-hand is optimal in case opponents try to stop the pain train with counter traps, spells, and monster effects.

[Zoodiac] Zeus Board Wipe Combo (Going Second or Behind on the Board)

This combo uses the Zoodiac engine to perform a series of Xyz Summons all the way up to Zeus. This will only work if the board state is in a way that your Zoodiac Drident can declare an attack and survive. Get your hand traps ready or simply hold the line until an opening emerges before attempting this combo.

1 Summon a Zoodiac monster from your hand (Preferrably Whiptail or Thoroughblade). Activate it's effect to start the XYZ summoning train with your Zoodiac monsters from the Extra Deck. The order doesn't necessarily matter as long as you finish with Zoodiac Drident.
2 Attack with Zoodiac Drident. Remember that this monster must survive in order to finish the combo.
3 Transition to Main Phase 2 and XYZ summon Zeus. Activate it's effect to send every card on the board to the Graveyard.
Gems Tip! If your opening hand doesn't contain any Tri-Brigade monster or Rescue Cat, consider opening with Zeus when playing second and hold the board alongside hand traps and spells until you draw them. Summon him in defense position to avoid Lightning Storm from your opponent.

Boss Monsters

Accesscode Talker
Accesscode Talker Accesscode Talker is an extremely powerful Boss Monster that allows you to open the board up and defeat your opponent in one turn alongside Shuraig. Mastery of the summoning combos from the Tri-Brigade engine is crucial in order to bring this boss monster out.
Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess
Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess Apollousa is a great boss monster to summon when going first as it can negate monster effects by sacrificing 800 of it's ATK. Maximize it's control potential by tributing three monsters for it's link summon.
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder Zeus is a strong staple for any deck that runs on XYZ summoning. This boss monster can send entire boards to the Graveyard (excluding itself) with its material and is a dangerous presence to leave on the board with its high ATK and DEF as well.
Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen
Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen Shuraig is the final boss monster of the Zoodiac Tri-Brigade deck and makes up one half of the OTK combo, alongside Accesscode Talker. This starts off with a powerful non-targettable banish on any card in the field, making it an extremely efficient boss to summon. It also lets you banish more cards as you special summon other monsters to the board, but take note that these banish effects can be negated.

Budget Zoodiac Tri-Brigade: F2P Friendly

Lower Rarity Replacements

SR/UR Replacements
Lightning Storm Raigeki (free) Twin Twisters
Infinite Impermanence Forbidden Chalice
Called by the Grave D.D. Crow
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Droll & Lock Bird

Most budget replacements for Zoo Tri-Brigade decks are often from the Main Deck as the Extra Deck is extremely crucial to the win-condition. Most of these budget options may not be as efficient as the cards they're replacing, but they can still be extremely potent against certain deck matchups — specifically against decks that rely on heavy card draw and monster effects.

Zoodiac Tri-Brigade Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Zoodiac Tri-Brigade

Eldlich Control

Eldlich decks in general are great against Zoodiac Tri-Brigade because of their powerful traps and ability for Eldlich to remind in play if protected well. Eldlich itself can pressure the board and perform its own OTK combo when the opportunity arises.

Eldlich Budget Deck List and Card Guide

Gravekeeper's

Gravekeeper's is another control deck that can stop your Tri-Brigade engine from the start, preventing key combos that lead towards your win-condition. This deck's ability to prevent the usage of the Graveyard with Necrovalley means that you'll be restricted to your Zoodiac combos for the majority of the match.

Best Cards to Tech Against Zoodiac Tri-Brigade

Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure Dimensional FIssure is an extremely strong card against Zoo Tri-Brigade decks because monsters who are sent to the graveyard are immediately banished instead. This effect prevents Kitt and Nervall's GY effects from happening, which can cripple the deck overall.
Gozen Match

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring A strong staple in Master Duel's current meta, this hand trap can be activated easily because Zoodiac Tri-Brigade decks fulfill all of its activation conditions. Using this card at the right time can negate key effects and plays which can turn the tide in a match.
Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion
Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion Another staple in Master Duel. Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion can potentially destroy Zoo Tri-Brigade combos in the same way as Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring does.
Artifact Lancea
Artifact Lancea Artifact Lancea is an amazing card in the clutch whenever Shuraig is on the board. Activating this at the right time can prevent Shuraig from banishing important cards from play.
Necrovalley
Necrovalley Necrovalley prevents cards in the Graveyard to move anywhere and prevent them from getting banished. This is extremely crippling for Zoo Tri-Brig decks because it relies on the Graveyard for Link summoning.
Macro Cosmos
Macro Cosmos Another strong card against Zoo Tri-Brigade that is often considered to be the better Dimensional Fissure. This card special summons Helios - The Primordial Sun from your hand. Making it easier for you to control and maintain presence on the board.
Maxx "C"
Maxx "C" Zoo Tri-Brigade decks perform a ton of special summoning, especially with its Zoodiac engine. Maxx "C" is an amazing way to punish their combos because it guarantees that you get card advantage by the end of their play.
