Endymion Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

As Spellcasters, the Endymion archetype, and the Mythical Beast archetype as an extension, have a connection with Spell Counters--the most common kind of Counter that can be attached to cards in Yu-Gi-Oh. They maximize this by activating Spells and Pendulum Monsters, sometimes using Spell Counters as cost of activation.

Main Deck Monsters

Servant of Endymion Magister of Endymion Reflection of Endymion Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic

Servant of Endymion is a classic combo starter and an extender as well, with its Pendulum Effect of Special Summoning both a face-up Pendulum Monster from the Extra Deck, and a monster stronger than itself from the Deck. Magister of Endymion shares the same role, but Special Summons itself instead, alongside a face-up Pendulum Monster from the Extra Deck, and on top of its own effect to Special Summon another monster from the Main Deck.

Reflection of Endymion has a similar Pendulum Effect, but Special Summons a monster from the hand. Its main Effect bounces a card the opponent controls back to their hand, and can search out a different "Endymion" card from the Deck when this card is destroyed.

One of the two main monsters in the Main Deck is Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic. With its Pendulum Effect, it can destroy cards on the field up to how many cards have Spell Counters on. As a monster, it has a Spell & Trap negate by returning cards with Spell Counters back to the hand. When destroyed, you get a free Normal Spell Card to add from Deck to hand.

Mythical Beast Jackal Mythical Beast Jackal King Mythical Beast Master Cerberus Mythical Beast Garuda

Equally as important to the Endymions are the Mythical Beasts, which synergize extremely well with Spell Counter usage, and are often paired together.

Mythical Beast Jackal can be give a card a Spell Counter by destroying itself through its Pendulum Effect, and by spending Spell Counters it can Special Summon a different "Mythical Beast" monster straight from the Deck. Mythical Beast Jackal King can Special Summon a different "Mythical Beast" Pendulum Monster from the Extra Deck, as well as being a once-per-turn negate against monster effects.

The second Main Deck boss monster is Mythical Beast Master Cerberus. As a Pendulum Effect, it can destroty itself to search out a Level 7 "Mythical Beast" Effect Monster from the Deck. It can also banish a monster the opponent controls, and gain ATK equal to the banished monster's.

Mythical Beast Garuda is more for a situational use. As a Pendulum Effect, it can destroy a Spell or Trap on the field, while using its main effect serves as a hand trap that bounces Special Summoned monsters from the opponent.

Astrograph Sorcerer

Astrograph Sorcerer is too good of a Pendulum Monster not to include in Endymions as a fellow Spellcaster. It can add a Pendulum Monster from the Deck to the Extra Deck face-up, and as a Level 7 monster is perfect to use for Rank 7 Xyz Monsters.

Spell Cards

Spell Power Mastery

Spell Power Mastery is arguably the Deck's strongest Spell Card. It searches an "Endymion" to add to the hand, and you can add Spell Counters among cards on the field based on the number of copies of this Spell Card on the field or in the GY. Copies of "Spell Power Grasp" add to this effect.

Mythical Institution

Mythical Insitituon provides some support for the Mythical Beasts, placing 2 Spell Counters each time a Pendulum Monster from the archetype is destroyed. It acts as a searcher, spending Spell Counters equal to the Level of the monster you want to add to the hand.

Chicken Game Pot of Desires Triple Tactics Talent
Called by the Grave Secret Village of the Spellcasters

Other than the mentioned above, there are no Spell Cards that specifically support or even mention Endymion or Mythical Beasts in the Deck Recipe. Instead, it makes use of Spell Cards that provide general support, maximizing the increase of Spell Counters on the field.

Cards like Chicken Game, Pot of Desires, and Triple Tactics Talent provide situational draw power to get to the Deck's key cards faster. Called by the Grave is a much-needed counter for hand traps like Maxx "C" and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

Extra Deck

Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon

As the Deck has a lot of Level 7 monsters, access to Rank 7 Xyz Monsters is easy. Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon can negate attacks, but its main purpose is to be able to cheat out Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon, with some plays even letting this card be destroyed just to get the Fusion Monster on the field. This combo adds a hard counter to the opponent's Spell Cards, shuffling Pendulum Monsters back from the Extra Deck to the Deck .

Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians
Heavymetalfoes Electrumite I:P Masquerena Beyond the Pendulum

*Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians is the most crucial Link Monster in the Extra Deck, as it provides a large number of Spell Counters as soon as it is Link Summoned, and a once-per-turn Special Summon for Spellcasters. It becomes even more annoying in an Endymion Deck, becoming untargetable for attacks if even a single "Endymion" card is on the field.

Most of the other Link Monsters are more for support. Heavymetalfoes Electrumite is an essential for Link-based Pendulum Decks, I:P Masquerena makes boss monsters like Accesscode Talker even more of a menace, and Beyond the Pendulum provides card destruction, and a free Pendulum Monster search by spending Life Points.

Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder Accesscode Talker Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess Underworld Goddess of the Closed World

The rest are staple boss monsters that can be called upon depending on the state of the field. Supreme King Dragon Starting Venom is perfect because of its Fusion material requirements, and the ability to use the effect of a different monster. Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder is a last resort option to clear the field, even including your own.

Link Monsters are a lot more flexible for this Deck. Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess can provide multiple negates against effects in a single turn, Accesscode Talker is a powerful late-game monsters that can destroy cards uninterrupted, and Underworld Goddess of the Closed World can get rid of hard-to-remove monsters the opponent controls on the field by using one of them as material.

Boss Monsters

Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic
Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic gets stronger once it has Spell Counters attached to it, becoming immune to targeted and card destruction effects. It can negate the activation of a Spell/Trap, and the card that was used as cost will transfer its Spell Counters to this Spellcaster.
Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon
Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon Once Special Summoned, Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon can bounce an Attack Position monster the opponent controls back to the hand. It can also negate a Spell, Trap or Effect Monster's activation once per turn, shuffling a Pendulum Monster on the EXtra Deck back to the Deck.
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder Typically used as a floodgate after attacking with an Xyz Monster, Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder clears the entire field with its Quick Effect, excludiing itself. It can also attach a material to itself to activate its effect, but needs two of them to properly use it.
Accesscode Talker
Accesscode Talker Often a late-game option, Accesscode Talker's effects cannot be responded with cards or effects. This means it can destroy cards on the field without worrying aobut being interrupted or negated. It also enjoys an ATK boost depending if it uses a Link Monster as material, and the Link Rating it has.
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World Another Link Monster as a late-game option, Underworld Goddess of the Closed World can use one other monster the opponent controls as material to Link Summon this monster. Once Link Summoned, it negates all face-up monsters the opponent currently controls upon summoning. It is also unaffected by non-targetting effects, and can negate effects that Special Summons monsters.

Endymion Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Endymion

Runick

Runick Top Image.png

If an Endymion player cannot get to their important cards, they cannot commit to their combo. Runick is really good against this Deck, especially if it manages to go against Endymion, and banish a lot of cards that the Deck needs.

Branded Zombies

Depending on which Deck goes first, it can be an equal battle betwen Branded and Endymion Decks. However, this variant of a Branded Despia Deck can be far more disruptive, especially with association of Zombie World.

Branded Zombie Deck Guide and Card List

Mathmech

Mathmech Deck Top Image.png

Mathmech is currently one of the strongest Decks in the metagame because of the deck's flexibility to go from aggressive to defensive, and they almost always have resources on hand. This can be made even harder if Mathmech goes first against Endymion.

Numeron

Numeron Deck Top Image.png

A Numeron Deck can actually surprise against Endymion players, especially if it goes second. They have options to remove monsters from the field that do not trigger any negates from their boss monsters, and can easily transition to an OTK once the field is wide open.

Best Cards to Tech Against Endymion

Effect Veiler
Effect Veiler For a Deck that is reliant in Spell Cards, it is also dependent on its Effect Monsters to commit to their combo. Effect Veiler can negate a monster's effect during the opponent's turn, and when timed right can completely stop a combo.
Nibiru, the Primal Being
Nibiru, the Primal Being An Endymion Deck's combos easily passes beyond five summons in a single turn. Nibiru, the Primal Being can completely stop the combo and clear the field of monsters, but players will have to time this effect right so that there arte no monsters that can negate this effect's activation.
Naturia Exterio
Naturia Exterio Naturia Exterio is the best Extra Deck monster that can deal with an Endymion Deck. Its effect that can negate Spells and Traps has no restrictions and can be used repeatedly in a turn, making Spell Cards dead cards in the hand while the monster is face-up and on the field.
Anti-Spell Fragrance
Anti-Spell Fragrance Anti-Spell Fragrance prevents the activation of Spell Cards, and forces both players to Set them first before being activated. This prevents Endymion Decks from snowballing completely out of control, especially with them relying on Spell Counters.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain Skill Drain denies and negates the effects of monsters currently on the field. Effect Monsters are very essential to an Endymion Deck, and rely on them to make combos possible. While this card is face-up and active, they will have to deal with this Continuous Trap first.
