Fabled was first introduced in Yu-Gi-Oh! during the Duel Terminal era when Synchro Monsters were first introduced. They specialize in LIGHT Beast and Fiend monsters that eventually chrun out materials on the field for future Synchro Summons.
The archetype has been around since the launch of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, but has only now received additional support through the release of newer Fabled cards in the Detonate to the Top Speed Selection Pack.

The older cards still have some viability in this modern take of a Fabled Deck. Each one of them have some form of involvement with discarding a card. Fabled Krus Special Summon a different Fabled monster from the GY; The Fabled Cerburrel Special Summons itself from the GY when discarded; and Fabled Grimro can discard itself as a searcher.
Always have these three at 3 copies each. These cards are the means to get to crucial cards, at the same time thin out the Main Deck in order to save up to the more crucial cards.

These cards are either at 1 or 2 copies each, and are not as crucial as the first three cards are. However, these cards are more for utility to get bodies on the field as Synchro Summon materials.
The Fabled Nozoochee is literally two Special Summons and one discard, while Marcosia can either discard 2 cards to summon itself or discard itself to get a Fabled Spell Card. The Fabled Abanc discards to summon itself from the GY once, and Fabled Kushano discards to add a different Fabled monster from the GY to the hand.

The two new additions to the Main Deck makes the Deck a little more consistent, and easier to access certain monsters. Through discarding itself and a different monster, The Fabled Behilmoth conducts a Synchro Summon with its level based on the total level of monsters discarded by this effect.
Fabled Realm's Revival is the newest Spell Card for the archetype, which can set a Fabled Spell/Trap from the Deck on activation (usually Stairway to a Fabled Realm). This Continuous Spell Card also prevents the opponent from activating cards or effects when you Synchro Summon a Fabled monster, as well as providing either a free draw Special Summoning a Fabled monster from the GY or Banishment.

As mentioned earlier during the introduction of the Fabled archetype, it comprised of LIGHT Beast and Fiend type monsters. That Fiend-type distinction is crucial, as this means that this Deck naturally has support to the Fiendsmith Engine.

By now, experienced Yu-Gi-Oh! and Master Duel players are familiar with the Fiendsmith cards, but for Fabled three stand out more from the rest. First is Fiendsmith's Tract; usually searched for Fabled Lurrie in other Decks using Fiendsmith, this Spell Card becomes a searcher for other LIGHT Fiend monsters from the Fabled archetype.
The second is Fiendsmith's Requiem, which only needs a LIGHT Fiend monster on the field as its material. This means the Fabled Synchro Monsters, Krus, Grimro and Marcosia can already be full Fiendsmith combo if the player opts for it.
Lastly is Fiendsmith Kyrie. It can banish itself from the GY to conduct a Fusion Summon, but its main effect as a Trap Card is more important. All LIGHT Fiend monsters cannot be destroyed by battle, and all battle damage you take is halved for the rest of the turn.

For the Extra Deck options for Fabled, we have to first look at their newer cards. Fabled Gammajin in particular is important is it is a Synchro Tuner Monster. While on the field, it redirects all targeted card effects all to itself. On Synchro Summon it is a Special Summon from the hand or Deck, and when sent to the GY it gives a draw for each Fabled Synchro Monster you control.
Fabled Levilazebul is the new boss monster for the Deck, which can tribute Fabled monsters you control in order to negate effects. It can also shuffle itself from the GY to the Extra Deck to recycle a different Fabled card from the GY.

The other monsters from the Fabled archetype have less effects, but equally potent at the right moment. Fabled Ragin lets you refresh an empty hand by drawing up to 2 cards, and Fabled Valkyrus has an effect similar to Dark World Dealings.
Fabled Leviathan's effect only triggers when it gets destroyed, but when it does you can retrieve three Fabled cards from the GY back to the hand.
| Cards Needed on Hand | |
|---|---|
| Step | Description |
| 1 | Activate The Fabled Behilmoth from the hand; discard itself and The Fabled Cerburrel, then Special Summon Fabled Gammajin. Then, activate the following effects in a chain: Chain Link 2: Activate the effect of Fabled Gammajin on Synchro Summon; Special Summon Fabled Kushano from the Deck. Chain Link 1: Activate The Fabled Cerburrel's effect upon begin discarded; Special Summon itself back from the GY to the field. |
| 2 | Using Fabled Kushano as material, Link Summon Fiendsmith's Requiem. Then, use that monster's effect to Special Summon Fiendsmith Engraver from the Deck. |
| 3 | Using Fiendsmith Engraver and Fabled Gammajin as materials to Synchro Summon Fabled Levilazebul. Upon being sent to the GY, trigger Gammajin's effect; add Fabled Lurrie from the Deck to hand, then discard it immediately. This triggers Lurrie's effect to Special Summon it onto the field. |
| 4 | Activate Fiendsmith Engraver from the GY; shuffle back Fabled Gammajin to the Extra Deck to Special Summon itself back onto the field. Then, using itself and The Fabled Cerburrel as material, Synchro Summon Fabled Valkyrus. |
| 5 | Normal Summon The Fabled Nozoochee. Then, using itself and Fabled Lurrie as material, Link Summon Fiendsmith's Sequence. Here, activate Sequence's effect; shuffle Fiendsmith Engraver, Fabled Lurrie and Fabled Kushano to the Decks to Fusion Summon Fiendsmith's Desirae. |
| 6 | Using Fiendsmith's Desirae and Fiendsmith's Sequence as material; Link Summon Fiendsmith's Agnumday. On summon, activate its effect; target the Fiendsmith's Desirae from the GY; Special Summon it to the field, and move Agnumday to the Spell/Trap Zone as an Equip Card to Desirae. |
| 7 | Activate the effects of Fiendsmith's Requiem and Fiendsmith's Sequence; equip them to Fiendsmith's Desirae. Then, send them both to the GY to Special Summon Snake-Eyes Doomed Dragon from the Extra Deck. |

| Fabled Levilazebul | |
|---|---|
|
|
Fabled Levilazebul is the newest boss monster for the Fabled archetype, having an easy material requirement for its Synchro Monster. As a Quick Effect during the Main Phase, it can negate cards by tributing other "Fabled" monsters you control. It can also shuffle itself back to the Extra Deck by returning another "Fabled" monster from the GY to the hand. |
| Fabled Leviathan | |
|
|
Fabled Leviathan's only effect triggers when it gets destroyed, but it works wonders in getting resources back from the GY to the hand. You can pop the monster yourself using an effect down the line, but for the most part you'll be summoning Levilazebul over Leviathan to make thing easier. |
| Baronne de Fleur | |
|
|
If a Deck can Synchro Summon a Level 10 monster with relative ease, Baronne de Fleur will always pop up in the Extra Deck. Usually for its omni-negate effect and card destruction effect, this monster is a staple for Synchro-centric Decks. It can also shuffle itself back to the GY to Special Summon a Level 9 or lower monster, which is great to refresh its omni-negate effect. |
| Fiendsmith's Desirae | |
|
|
Fiendsmith's Desirae is the signature boss monster for the Fiendsmith Engine, often brought out through the effects of Fiendsmith's Tract or Fiendsmith's Sequence. It can negate cards on the field as a Quick Effect; how many it can negate depends on the number of Link Markers from the Link Monsters equipped to this Fusion Monster. |
| Fiendsmith's Rextremende | |
|
|
Fiendsmith's Rextremende is less commonly seen in the Fiendsmith Engine, but is a very powerful boss monster when added in. It becomes immune to non-Fiendsmith card effects when equipped with a "Fiendsmith" Equip Spell--which usually means the Link Monsters that have equip effects. On Fusion Summon, it can send a LIGHT Fiend from the Deck or Extra Deck to the GY, which would almost always be Fiendsmith's Lacrima. |
| A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow | |
|
|
For Decks that use LIGHT and/or DARK monsters, A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow is the newest LINK-4 monster to consider in the Extra Deck. It can either destroy a card on the field or Special Summon a LIGHT or DARK monster from the GY by banishing itself, once per turn. It also provides a pseudo-Magical Mallet effect during your Standby Phase, based on the number of different Monster Types. |

As of writing, Maliss is considered the best Deck in the format, as it prefers having its cards banished in order to get card advantage on the field and on hand. As they are Cyberse monsters as well, they also have powerful boss monsters like Accesscode Talker and Firewall Dragon Darkfluid - Neo Tempest Terahertz.
However, the most dangerous of them all would have to be White Binder and Hearts Crypter. Both Link Monsters banish cards from either player's side, which poses a danger to the Fabled monsters as there is no means to retrive cards from Banishment.
Maliss Deck Guide and Card List

Ryzeal can match blow for blow with Maliss, and it can certainly go up against Fabled with relative ease. There's a reason why Abyss Dweller got banned before they were formally announced; otherwise, Fabled would not be able to use GY effects that some of the monsters have.
The main danger from this Deck is Ryzeal Detonator, whose card destruction effect has no once-per-turn clause whatsoever. Further supporting this is Ryzeal Cross, which also provides a negation once per turn.

Primite Blue-Eyes has hardly been touched since it rose to prominence a few Seasons ago, and still remains a very powerful Deck. Primite Drillbeam is basically a field version of Called by the Grave, which sends Fabled cards to the one place they do not want to be in a Duel: the Banishment.
This is especially dangerous if they manage to go first versus Fabled, as their board involving Blue-Eyes Ultimate Spirit Dragon and Stardust Sifr Divine Dragon still remains hard to break if the player does not have the right cards for it.
Primite Blue-Eyes Deck List & Card Guide

Centur-Ion is one of the more interesting match-ups against Fabled, as it can go equal depending on who goes first. Fabled can stand a chance going first against them. However, Centur-Ion going first gives them access to Auxila, Phalanx, True Awakening and Stand Up Centur-Ion! as part of interruptions.
Due to how easy it is for the Deck to get to Level 12 Synchro Monsters, they also have access to Crimson Dragon. This one monster alone provides easier access to extremely key boss monsters, like Centur-Ion Legatia, Cosmic Blazar Dragon, and Crystal Clear Wing Over Synchro Dragon
Centur-Ion Deck List & Card Guide
| Droll & Lock Bird | |
|---|---|
|
|
With the Fabled cards needing some searchers to really be viable, stopping them from accessing more cards should be paramount. Droll & Lock Bird should be able to neutralize them after the first search, and the effect will last for the rest of the turn. It also hard counters Maxx "C" and the Mulcharmy cards (usually Fuwalos or Purulia) even after they have their effects resolved. |
| Deck Lockdown | |
|
|
Often used in Stun Decks or those who do not need to search cards to combo, Deck Lockdown basically locks down both players' Decks. Neither can Special Summon monsters from the Deck, nor can they add card from the hand except through drawing; both of which Fabled does quite a bit. It may not last on the field forever, but a turn or two without access to the Deck can be enough to win against a Fabled player. |
| Necrovalley | |
|
|
A number of Fabled monsters Special Summon themselves from the GY when they were discarded from the hand, like Fabled Lurrie or Fabled Cerburrel. Having Necrovalley on the field prevents any cards from leaving the GY regardless of purpose. |
| Dimension Shifter | |
|
|
Fabled makes use of the GY as a secondary resource pool, using it to send cards there only to be either Special Summoned or shuffled back to the Deck for and effect. Dimension Shifter can completely mess up a Fabled player's starting turn, with cards being banished instead of being sent to the GY. Dimensional Fissure and Macro Cosmos get honorary mentions for having essentially the same effect. |
