Spright Runick Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Spright Runick is one of Spright's best variants of this format. These 2 archetypes come hand in hand as they both only use Level/Rank/Link-2 Monsters. Runick's unique gimmick of Decking-out the opponent is further supplemented by Spright's strong board setup.
Runick Spright has 2 win conditions:

  1. Beat them down using the Spright cards.
  2. Deck them out using the Runick cards.
Spright Blue Spright Jet Spright Starter

The Sprights offer a strong opening board with the help of Blue, Jet, and Starter. Complemented with Runick Spell Cards that lets you summon Hugin easily, Spright can easily Summon themselves on to the board.

Gigantic Spright Spright Elf

Gigantic Spright can use Hugin as a material for its Summon, making it a large beatstick on the field. Gigantic Spright also offers a strong effect that lets you setup your board easily.

Spright Elf helps your resources back by Special Summoning them from the Graveyard. Elf also offers protection to the Monster it points to.

Runick Destruction Runick Flashing Fire Runick Freezing Curses Runick Smiting Storm
Runick Slumber Runick Tip Runick Dispelling Runick Golden Droplet

All the Runick Quick-Play Spells share the same secondary effect: to Special Summon 1 Runick Monster from the Extra Deck. As for their primary effects, they all have various effects but they all Banish Cards from the top of your opponent's deck.

  • Runick Freezing Curses negates a monster's effects until the end of the turn, and banish three cards;
  • Runick Destruction destroys a Spell or Trap the opponent controls, and banishes four cards;
  • Runick Golden Droplet lets the opponent draw one card, at the cost of four cards being banished.
Hugin the Runick Wings Geri the Runick Fangs Runick Fountain

Hugin the Runick Wings is your primary Extra Deck Monster to Special Summon using Runick Spell Cards. Not just because she can Search Runick Fountain, but she's also a Level 2 Monster. This will serve as the starter for the Spright combo.

Geri the Runick Fangs lets you add the Runick Fountain from the Graveyard if it was destroyed or sent there by any means.

Runick Fountain will be your resource management friend, with its absurd recycling abilities, you can draw up to 3 cards per turn thanks to its effect. This also makes your Runick Quick-Play Spells activatable from hand during your opponent's turn.

Core Combos and Interactions

Spright Blue + Runick

This Combo works as long as you have any Runick Quick-Play Spell Card + Spright Blue in hand.

Required Cards
Spright Blue + Runick Tip + any card.
Step Description
1 Activate Runick Tip from Hand to Special Summon Hugin the Runick Wings from Extra Deck.
Activate Hugin's Effect by discarding 1 card to Add Runick Fountain from the Deck to Hand.
2 Special Summon Spright Blue then Activate its effect, searching Spright Jet from Deck to Hand.
3 Special Summon Spright Jet from Hand. Activate its effect to add Spright Starter or Spright Smashers from the Deck to hand. The card you add here depends on the current game state.
4 Overlay Spright Blue and Hugin the Runick Wings to Xyz Summon Gigantic Spright. Activate Gigantic's Effect to Special Summon Ipiria from the Deck and then detach Blue.
5 Activate Ipiria's Effect to draw a Card.
Link Summon Spright Elf using Ipiria and Gigantic Spright as materials.
Activate Elf's effect to Special Summon Spright Jet from the Graveyard.
6 Link Summon I:P Masquerena using the 2 Spright Jets as materials. Then Set the Spright Starter or Spright Smashers that you searched with Jet's effect.
7 Activate Runick Fountain then use its effect to recycle the Runick Spell Card that you used in Step 1.

Your End Board will look like this:

Runick Fountain
Spright Elf X
- - I:P Masquerena - -
- - - - Spright Starter

Notes:
In Step 7, prior to using Runick Fountain's recycle Effect, use another Runick Quick-Play Spell so that you can draw more cards with Fountain's effect.
Activate Spright Starter to Special Summon either Spright Carrot or Spright Red from the Deck.
Activate Spright Elf's Effect to Special Summon Ipiria from your Graveyard that can be later used as Material for I:P's effect. Ipiria also lets you draw 1 card.
Use I:P Masquerena effect to Link Summon into:

  1. Knightmare Unicorn to spin 1 card your opponent controls.
  2. Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess to negate multiple monster effects.
  3. Topologic Zeroboros to pose a board wipes threat to the opponent.
Work in Progress - Will add more additional combos soon!

Best Decks to Use Against Spright Runick

Sprights

Master Duel - Spright Top Image
Spright Runick's primary weakness is any variant of itself. Spright's strong board clearance is something not to underestimate. They can easily go first and setup their board to disrupt you. Going second is not a problem as well since they have a lot of board breaker cards.

Best Cards to Tech Against Spright Runick

Artifact Lancea
Artifact Lancea Artifact Lancea's Quick-Effect prevents card from being banished, greatly diminishing the potency of Runick's Spells.
Imperial Iron Wall
Imperial Iron Wall A strong floodgate that prevents cards from being banished. Since Runicks cannot attempt to Banish Cards, the whole first effects of their Quick-Play spells cannot activate.
Chaos Hunter
Chaos Hunter Another handtrap-like effect, Chaos Hunter works similarly to Imperial Iron Wall. It also has high Attack points that Runicks will surely have a hard time dealing with.
Anti-Spell Fragrance
Anti-Spell Fragrance A continuous Trap Card that focuses on countering Spell-reliant decks like Runick. It greatly slows down the tempo of Runicks.
Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit
Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit Since this deck still runs Spright cards, hitting Gigantic Spright with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit can slow down their tempo as well.
