Scareclaw Kashtira Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

For the most part, the Scareclaw playstyle does not change much, only that it gets boosted by the power of the Kashtira monsters. The key monster is the titular Scareclaw Kashtira connecting the two archetypes.

Main Deck Monsters

Scareclaw Kashtira

The titular monster, Scareclaw Kashtira can Special Summon itself from the hand by banishing either a "Scareclaw" or "Kashtira" card from either the hand or GY.

It is the perfect addition for any Scareclaw Deck, being able to attack while in Defense Position, and negating monster effects whenever a "Scareclaw" or "Kashtira" monster attacks.

Kashtira Fenrir Kashtira Unicorn Kashtira Riseheart

The rest of the Kashtira engine punishes the opponent while they remain on the field. Kashtira Fenrir banishes face-up cards from the field face-down if the opponent activates a monster effect, and Kashtira Unicorn banishes a card from their Extra Deck face-down.

Kashtira Riseheart is usually the final piece to bring in an attempt to summon Kashtira Arise-Heart. It helps that its effect to change its Level to 7 banishes cards from the opponent's Deck face-down.

Scareclaw Acro Scareclaw Astra Scareclaw Belone ] Scareclaw Reichheart

Scareclaw Acro searches out a Scareclaw Spell or Trap from the Deck, and can draw a card as a second effect. Scareclaw Astra provides monsters in the Extra Monster Zone additional attacks based on the number of Scareclaw monsters in Defense Position.

Scareclaw Belone provides the same support by granting piercing battle damage to monsters in the Extra Monster Zone.

Scareclaw Reichheart is an integral card among the Scareclaw Main Deck monsters, as it's the main searcher; summoning this card lets the player search out a "Scareclaw Spell/Trap". If there are three or more monsters in Defense Position, the player gets an additional draw.

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Maxx "C"

Lastly, the mandatory cards are in the Deck as usual. Don't forget to add in Maxx "C" and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring at max copies to punish the opponent for searches and Special Summons.

Spell Cards

Primitive Planet Reichphobia Pressured Planet Wraithsoth

There are two Field Spells to run in this Deck, but one of them is the more essential one: Primitive Planet Riechphobia. Searching a "Scareclaw" monster upon activation, debilitating the opponent's monster for every Defense Positioned monster on the field, and a free card destruction if the conditions are met are crazy good for a Field Spell at 3 copies.

Having Pressued Planet Wraithsoth in the starting hand is good as well, searching out a "Kashtira" monster upon activation, and having synergy with Kashtira Shangri-Ira can lead to a Kashtira full combo opening.

Scareclaw Arrival

Scareclaw Arrival is a crucial Spell for the Deck, being able to Special Summon a "Scareclaw" monster from the GY. If you decide to run Visas Starfrost, it counts for this Spell Card as well.

While in the GY, it's going to act as protection for your "Scareclaw" Link Monster, banishing itself to protect said link from battle or card destruction.

Kashtira Birth Kashtiratheosis

Kashtira Birth is very crucial to have this card face-up and active to enable the Deck's strengths. It does wonders for "Kashtira" monsters, being able to Special Summon them from the GY or the banish pile, and allowing Level 7 monsters to be Normal Summoned without tributing anything.

If the opponent activates a Spell Card while you control this card and another face-up "Kashtira," it can target 3 cards in their GY to be banished face-down.

Kastiratheosis lets players Special Summon another "Kashtira" monster straight from the Deck, but it has to be a different Attribute than the targeted monster. When banished, it can retrieve a banished "Kashtira" card other than itself to be added to your hand.

Book of Eclipse Called by the Grave Crossout Designator Harpie Triple Tactics Talent

The rest of the Spell Cards are meant to suppor the Deck as classic choices. Called by the Grave negates GY effects, Crossout Designator deals with hand traps and mirror match choices, Triple Tactics Talents punishes monster effects and Harpie's Feather Duster can destroy the back row with one single activation.

The rising choice of Spell Card as support is Book of Eclipse, which forces all monsters on the field to face-down Defense Position. This can be a game-winning card depending on when it's used, but the player has win the game that turn--lest they give the opponent lots of card advantage.

Scareclaw Twinsaw Kashtira Big Bang

Kashtira Big Bang serves as control on the field and a combo piece usually banished by the effect of Kashtira Riseheart.

The newest Trap Card for the "Scareclaw" archetype is Scareclaw Twinsaw, which destroys cards on the field upon tributing a "Scareclaw" monster. It can also banish itself from the GY to negate all Link Monsters for the rest of the turn--preventing their effects from activating.

Extra Deck Monsters

Scareclaw Light-Heart Scareclaw Tri-Heart

The main playstyle of this Deck revolves around the two "Scareclaw" Link Monsters--Scareclaw Light-Heart and Scareclaw Tri-Heart. The former is the monster you start of with, as Link Summoning it permits a search of the archetype Field Spell, Primitive Planet Reichphobia.

That monster is key to getting Scareclaw Tri-Heart out on the field as fast as possible. Once on the field, all non-Link Monsters are forced to Defense Position, and their activated effects are negated while locked that way.

Kashtira Shangri-Ira Kashtira Arise-Heart

Just in case the Scareclaw boss monsters are not enough, the Deck can easily pivot into "Kashtira" Xyz Monsters. Kashtira Shangri-Ira can Special Summon a "Kashtira" monster from the Deck every Standby Phase, while Kashtira Arise-Heart banishes all cards sent to the GY, absorbing one banished card each turn.

Baronne de Fleur

Baronne de Fleur sort of works as an option, what with the Kashtira mosnters being Level 7, and a Level 3 tuner existing in the Deck Recipe in Ash Blossom. Though it forsakes a handtrap, its omni-negate, card destruction, and Special Summon effects are extremely pivotal.

Wind-Up Zenmaines Downerd Magician Number 11: Big Eye Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder

The rest of the Xyz Monster options are more for support than firepower. For example, Wind-Up Zenmaines provides protection and card destructions as part of its effect.

Downerd Magician comes with a package to give Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder as many attached materials as possible. As for Number 11: Big Eye, it can steal a monster the opponent controls at the cost of itself not being able to attack the turn it activates its effect.

I:P Masquerena Underworld Goddess of the Closed World

I:P Masquerena grants the Link Monster that uses it as material immunity to card destruction effects. It can be a perfect monster to use when summoning Scareclaw Tri-Heart, but players can opt into using its Quick Effect to Link Summon during the opponent's turn to bring out Underworld Goddessof the Closed World and deny a Special Summon.

Boss Monsters

Scareclaw Kashtira
Scareclaw Kashtira Scareclaw Kashtira is the monster that connects the two archetypes its name is the basis of. It can attack while in Defense Position, and it can make sure the opponent's monsters are negated whenever a Scareclaw or Kashtira Deck battles.
Scarecrow Tri-Heart
Scareclaw Tri-Heart Once Scareclaw Tri-Heart hits the field, all other monsters are forced into Defense Position. This monster also enjoys immunity from activated effects from monsters that are in Defense Position.
Kashtira Arise-Heart
Kashtira Arise-Heart Kashtira Arise-Heart is the Kashtira archetype's boss monster, and as long as this monster is face-up on the field, all cards are banished instead of going to the GY. It can absorb a card that is banished once per chain, and can banish a card on the field face-down.
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World Underworld Goddess of the Closed World is more of a last resort monster to summon, as it can get rid of a monster the opponent controls to be used as material. Upon being Link Summoned, it negates all monsters the opponent controls, and can negate Special Summoning monsters from the Graveyard.

Scareclaw Kashtira Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Scareclaw Kashtira

Master Duel - Kashtira Banner

A common weakness for Kashtira Decks is going second, and this is only exacerbate when using Scareclaw Kashtira. Most of the best Decks against this stretegy usually go first, to set up as much as possible against the Deck.

Naturia Runick

Master Duel - Naturia Runick

Naturia Runick is currently the best Runick variant, combining the interrupting ability of Runick's Quick-Play Spells and the negates and floodgate monsters provided by the Naturia archetype engine. If this Deck goes first, Scareclaw Kashtira Decks might have a hard time to properly play through sheer floodgate and control.

Naturia Runick Deck List & Card Guide

Labrynth

Master Duel - Labrynth

Right now, Labrynth is the best Deck in terms of interrupts, thanks to its Trap Card recursion with key monsters. Once the loop is fully set up, it is incredibly hard to break through and win. Scareclaw Kashtira Deck players have to hope this Deck goes second, or have a really bad hand if they go first.

Labrynth Deck List & Card Guide

Gishki Spright

Master Duel - Gishki Spright

A full combo from Gishki Spright can have up to three negates on the field that can fully interrupt the plays a Scareclaw Kashtira Deck can do. Unless specific counters are done to deal with their mulitple negates on the field, Scareclaw Kashtira can do better

Best Cards to Tech Against Scareclaw Kashtira

Evenly Matched
Evenly Matched A full board of Scareclaw Kashtira unfortunately does not have any negates set up most of the time, which makes Evenly Matched one of the best counters against this Deck, especially if they go first.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain Most of the monsters in both Scareclaw and Kashtira are at their strongest being on the field. Skill Drain effectively neutralizes all possible monsters in this Deck--particularly Scareclaw Tri-Heart, preventing monsters on the field to be forced to Defense Position.
Nibiru, the Primal Being
Nibiru, the Primal Being A normal combo for Scareclaw Kashtira can go beyond 5 summons in a single turn. Nibiru, the Primal Being can easily wipe the entire Field in a single fell swoop, which hurts the Deck even more as they usually do not have cards that can trigger after being tributed by this hand trap.
Raigeki
Raigeki Raigeki is a classic monster-destroying card that completely wipes the monsters the opponent controls. With Scareclaw Kashtira not having negates most of the time, having this card on hand can easily derail their plans.
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World Underworld Goddess of the Closed World is a sneaky way to get rid of monsters, due to its effect allowing a monster the opponent controls to be used as material. It also can negate Special Summons from the Graveyard once per turn--which the Scareclaw archetype can do once in a while.
