Mathmech Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Mathmechs are predominantly Cyberse-type monsters that specialize in swarming the field with their monsters in order to access their Extra Deck. Options are very flexible, and they even have dedicated Synchro and Xyz Monsters as boss monsters and combo extenders. Because of this, they can play both defensively and offensively, which is a desired trait for an Aggro Deck like Mathmech.

Mathmech Circular

The main star in the Main Deck is Mathmech Circular. This Effect Monster acts as the combo starter, searcher and Foolish Burial-like effect all in one monster. Getting this card on hand on your first turn is especially crucial, and is a great opener in just about every situation.

Mathmech Diameter Mathmech Sigma Mathmech Addition Mathmech Subtraction

The rest of the "Mathmech" Main Deck Monsters benefit a lot from having Mathmech Circular. Mathmech Diameter in particular goes hand in hand, and is the perfect set-up for the "Mathmech" Extra Deck monsters as it grants them the ability to negate a card or effect once per turn as a Quick Effect if this card happens to be usd as material. It also revives any Level 4 Cyberse monster from the GY if this card is Normal Summoned.

Mathmech Sigma is another crucial card in a usual combo from this Deck, as this is usually the card you want to sent to the GY through Mathmech Circular's effect. This card can Special Summon itself from the GY once per turn if you do not control any monster in the Extra Monster Zone. As a bonus, this card can be treated as a non-Tuner when being used as material for a Synchro Summon, even though it's a Tuner itself.

Mathmech Addition and Mathmech Subtracton are combo extenders for their Special Summon effects. True to their name, ATK points are affected when their effects are activated and are Special Summoned from the hand; Addition adds 1000 ATK to a targeted monster, while Subtraction reduces a targeted monster's ATK by 1000.

Primathmech Alembertian Primathmech Laplacian Mathmech Equation Mathmech Superfactorial

The key Boss "Mathmech" monster would be Primathmech Alembertian. It has an interesting case where it gains different effects the more materials it detaches to activate, but in most Duels just two materials is enough, as it searches out any "Mathmech" monster. If players decide to have more materials attached, it can also either search a Level 4 monster (if 3 materials were detached), or any Spell or Trap from the Deck (if 4 materials were detached).

The other two "Mathmech" Boss monsters are prime targets for Mathmech Superfactorial, which is an easy way to summon them--especially if this card is set just before the opponent's turn. Primathmech Laplacian and Geomathmech Final Sigma become much easier to summon compared to their usual summon requirements, but you can only choose one between the two of them upon activating this Trap Card. Mathmech Equation is there as a free Monster Reborn-like effect to bring back a "Mathmech" monster from the GY.

Primathmech Laplacian needs three monsters as attached materials for it to be Xyz Summoned, and players can detach up to that many materials from it to activate each of its effects. If done correctly, this card can toss a monster, a Spell/Trap, and even a random card from their hand to the GY when they make their first moves.

Small World Cynet Mining Triple Tactics Talent

Searchers are key in order to get that copy of "Mathmech Circular" as soon as possbile. Cynet Mining is the best Spell Card for the job as it looks out for Cyberse monsters specifically. Small World is a clutch searcher that can look for the needed card at the trade of banishing a monster of the same Type, Attribute, Level, ATK or DEF. Triple Tactics Talent can be used if the opponent uses a monster hand trap, which gives it a lot of utility--the most notable of which is a Pot of Greed-like effect of drawing two cards for free.

Effect Veiler Maxx "C" Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Called by the Grave Crossout Designator

Classic staples round out the Deck, from control to combo extensions. Maxx C and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring are hand traps that are borderline mandatory in just about every Deck in the current meta, and Called by the Grave is there as a countermeasure against both of these cards. Effect Veiler is a clutch counter against effect monsters that can interrupt a combo before it gets going, and Crossout Designator is a cheeky counter against every common staple.

Accesscode Talker Firewall Dragon

Among the Link Monsters noteworthy to be discussed, it would be the LINK-4 monsters: Accesscode Talker, Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess and Firewall Dragon. All of them have their own advantages when on the field, and they can be chosen depending on the current state of the Duel. Accesscode Talker is more of a game-ending monster with its ability to destroy cards and have a huge ATK stat.

Cyberse Desavewurm Firewall Dragon Darkfluid - Neo Tempest Terahertz

A new boss monster to add in the Deck is Firewall Dragon Darkfluid - Neo Tempest Terahertz, which is a game-ending card in its own right. It comboes well with Cyberse Desavewurm to provide a free negate Quick Effect while you have a LINK-4 or higher monster, as well as provide a massive ATK boost that stays while this LINK-5 monster is active and on the field.

Core Combos and Interactions

One-Card Anti-Nibiru Combo

Card(s) Needed
Cynet Mining
Step Description
1 Activate Cynet Mining to search out a copy of Mathmech Circular from the Deck to the hand.
Afterwards, activate Mathmech Circular from the hand; send Mathmech Sigma from the Deck to the GY, then Special Summon itself from the hand.
2 Activate Mathmech Sigma from the GY, to Special Summon itself to the field.
NOTE: You must not control an Extra Deck Monster in either Extra Monster Zone to activate its effect.
3 As Mathmech Sigma is Special Summoned, this triggers Mathmech Circular's effect; use it to search out Mathmech Superfactorial from the Deck to the hand.
4 Using Mathmech Sigma and Mathmech Circular as materials, Xyz Summon Primathmech Alemberitan.
Upon being summoned, activate its effect and detach both materials to search out a copy of Mathmech Diameter from the Deck to the hand.
5 Normal Summon the newly-searched Mathmech Diameter and activate its effect upon being summoned; target Mathmech Circular from the GY, and Special Summon it back to the field.
6 Use Mathmech Diameter as material to Link Summon Link Disciple.
Then, use Mathmech Circular as material to Link Summon Link Devotee.
7 Activate the second effect of Primathmech Alembertian; tribute Link Devotee and Special Summon one of the Mathmech monsters from the GY.
This Special Summon triggers Link Devotee's effect and Summon 2 Tokens on your field (Cyberse/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0).
8 Using one of the summoned Tokens and Link Disciple as materials, Link Summon Cyberse Wicckid to the Extra Monster Zone.
9 Using the remaining Token and the Special Summoned Mathmech monster from earlier as material, Link Summon I:P Masquerena.
Upon being Link Summoned, this triggers the effect of Cyberse Wicckid; banish a monster from the GY, search out another copy of Mathmech Diameter to add to the hand.
NOTE: Do NOT banish any of your Mathmech Effect monsters. In this case, use the LINK-1 monsters in the GY instead.
10 Set the Mathmech Superfactorial Trap Card that was searched out earlier, then pass turn.

Step Description
1 Afterwards, activate Mathmech Circular from the hand; send Mathmech Sigma from the Deck to the GY, then Special Summon itself from the hand.
Then, Normal Summon Mathmech Diameter.
2 Activate Mathmech Diameter's effect first, then activate Mathmech Circular as Chain Link 2.
Chain Link 2: Add a copy of Mathmech Superfactorial from the Deck to the hand.
Chain Link 1: Target Mathmech Sigma from the GY, and Special Summon it onto the field.
Upon being summoned, activate its effect and detach both materials to search out a copy of Mathmech Addition from the Deck to the hand.
5 Activate the effect of Mathmech Sigma**, to Special Summon itself from the GY.
6 Use Mathmech Diameter as material to Link Summon Link Disciple.
Then, use Mathmech Sigma as material to Link Summon Link Devotee.
8 Using Link Disciple and one of the summoned Tokens as materials, Link Summon Splash Mage. Activate its effect to Special Summon Mathmech Diameter from the GY to the field.
9 Using Splash Mage and the other summoned Token as materials to Link Summon Cyberse Wicckid.
Then, activate Mathmech Addition from the hand; target 1 monster you control, boost its ATK, and Special Summon this card to a Main Monster Zone pointed to by Cyberse Wicckid.
10 Upon the Special Summon of Mathmech Addition to a Monster Zone pointed by Cyberse Wicckid, activate its effect; banish a Link Monster from the GY, then search out another copy of Mathmech Diameter to the hand.
11 Using Mathmech Diameter, Mathmech Circular and Mathmech Addition as material, Xyz Summon Primathmech Laplacian. Upon being Xyz Summoned, activate its effect; detach a monster from this card, and force the opponent to discard a card from the hand.
12 Using the two Xyz Monsters, Primathmech Laplacian and Primathmech Alembertian as material, Link Summon I:P Masquerena. Then, set Mathmech Superfactorial and pas the turn.

Boss Monsters

Geomathmech Sigma
Geomathmech Final Sigma Once Geomathmech Final Sigma is in the Extra Monster Zone, this Synchro Monster is effectively immune to all other caard effects, except those from "Mathmech" cards. It also deals double battle damage to the opponent, and it searches out a "Mathmech" card from the Deck if ever it gets destroyed by battle or card effect.
Firewall Dragon
Firewall Dragon Depending on the number of cards Firewall Dragon is co-linked to, it can use its Quick Effect to bounce back monsters on the field back to the hand. It also allows the player to Special Summon a Cyberse Monster if a monster this Link Monster points to is destroyed by battle or sent to the GY.
Accesscode Talker
Accesscode Talker A classic choice for Decks that can summon LINK-4 monsters with ease through Link Climbing, Accesscode Talker is a great late-game boss monster to summon. It gains ATK based on the Link Rating the Link Monster used as material to summon this. On top of that, it uses its effect to destroy cards on the field, and players cannot activate cards in response to this effect's activation.

Mathmech Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Mathmech

Runick

Runick Top Image

How can Mathmech players play their strategy if their entire Deck is being banished bit by bit? Runick is one of the biggest threats in the current meta, especially against Mathmech Decks. Players will have to deal with its Quick-Play Spells and the combo that lets them recycle their Spell Cards back to the Deck and get free draw power.

Runick Control Deck Guide

Labrynth

Labrynth Top Image

If Labrynth manages to go first against a Mathmech player, expect them to have a set-up disruptive enough to interrupt any game plan. Even a single Trap Card can let them win the game, so backrow clearing is very key in this matchup. Do not let them have the satifsacton of resolving Normal Trap Cards and moving monsters out of the field.

Labrynth Control Deck Guide

Scareclaw

Pure Scareclaw Top Image

As an aggressive Deck, being forced to Defense Position is a pain. Scareclaw Decks go all-in on making their opponent's monsters into Defense Position, for their boss monster Scareclaw Tri-Heart to attack and destroy. Try to bypass their locking combo by focusing on getting the boss Link Monsters out on the field as soon as possible.

Eldlich

Eldlich Control Deck Guide Top Image

Eldlich Decks are very good disruptors against combo Decks, and can be infuriating to deal with because of its boss monster and slew of Trap Card that destroy advantages. Be careful when going for an all in as a Mathmech Deck, and take precaution against every counter it can throw against you.

Best Cards to Tech Against Mathmech

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring There are a lot of Graveyard effects for this Deck, especially recycle effects and Special Summon effects. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is a popular counter and a mainstay to every Deck. Watch out for this card when committing to a combo, and hope that you have a copy of Called by the Grave to counter this counter.
Sky Striker Mecha - Widow Anchor
Sky Striker Mecha - Widow Anchor The true power of this Deck lies in its ability to Link Climb into a powerful boss Link Monster with a strong Effect, as soon as possible. While an unorthodox counter, Sky Striker Mecha - Widow Anchor can act as a way to use a Quick Effect to negate its effects. If three or more Spell Cards are in the Graveyard, the player effectively steals the monster as well for the rest of the turn.
Forbidden Droplet
Forbidden Droplet Another Quick-Play Spell that can negate the effects of monsters as they activate, and this one cannot be responded by cards this card used to send to the GY. Forbidden Droplet also drops the monsters' ATK in half, leaving them weakend for stronger monsters to destroy by battle. Make sure to have enough cards at hand to activate this card appropriately!
Summon Limit
Summon Limit Link Climbing is this Deck's specialty, with three LINK-4 monsters in the Extra Deck that are all game-winning when summoned to the field. Summon Limit prevents the consecutive summons from going too far, limiting both players to just two summons overall per turn. This is perfect for Control Decks that dictate the pace of the game.

Something is wrong with the deck list. It lists that there should be 41 cards but only displays 39 and the combo's it shows includes cards that aren't part of the deck list.
