Kozmo OTK Breakdown

Kozmo Deck Guide: How to Play

The Kozmo archetype are based on a mix of Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz, and consists of 2 main monster types types: Psychics and Machines. The playstyle of this archetype revolves on using weaker monsters to summon stronger ones and powerful utilities, all for the goal of your opponent's absolute destruction.

Playstyle and Win Condition

With the Kozmo Archetype being around for a few years now, a lot of players--especially TCG/OCG players-- are pretty familiar with how this deck works.

Kozmo Tincan Kozmo Farmgirl

The Psychic-type monsters have 2 main effects: one is to banish themselves from the field to summon higher level Kozmo Monsters from your hand (usually a Quick Effect), and the other is to pay LP to activate their secondary effects.

Kozmo Tincan and Kozmo Farmgirl are the staples to the Kozmo Deck Engine, as both cards focus on searching for other Kozmo cards to add to your hand. After that, you can banish either of the two to Special Summon a stronger Kozmo monster from your hand at any time.

Kozmo Dark Destroyer Kozmo Forerunner Kozmo Sliprider

The Machine-types are your main Monsters that have the effect of Special Summoning lower level "Kozmo" monsters from your Deck by banishing themselves if they get destroyed by battle or card effect. This ensures you do not run out of monsters on the Field.

Kozmo Dark Destroyer can destroy 1 monster on the field when it gets Normal or Special Summoned, while Kozmo Sliprider can destroy 1 Spell/Trap on the field when Normal or Special Summoned; both effects are perfect for getting rid of annoying cards your opponent controls.

You'll need to use Kozmo Farmgirl to search for Kozmo Dark Destroyer and add it to your hand. You'll also need Emergency Teleport to bring out another "Kozmo" Psychic-type monster to the field and another "Kozmo" Machine type monster so you can special summon two Kozmo Boss monsters for the OTK combo.

It's preferable that you have at least 1 "Kozmo" Psychic type monster that you can Normal Summon, another Kozmo Machine type monster to Special Summon, and Emergency Teleport in your hand to make this combo work.

Kozmo Dark Destroyer Kozmo Dark Destroyer Kozmo Farmgirl Kozmo Sliprider

Kozmo Farmgirl, 2 Kozmo Dark Destroyers, and 1 other Kozmo machine monster should be the best possible starting hand a "Kozmo" player could run.

Dogmatika Engine

Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous Dogmatika Fleurdelis, the Knighted Dogmatika Maximus
Titaniklad the Ash Dragon Nadir Servant Dogmatika Punishment

For additional protection against Extra Deck-centric strategies and archetypes, a great Engine to run would be the Dogmatika Engine, which should provide more protection against them.

Key cards include Dogmatika Fleurdelis, the Knighted which can be Special Summoned in response and negate effects, Dogmatika Maximus which sends cards from the Extra Deck sent to the GY, and Dogmatika Punishment who can send Extra Deck cards with GY effects there to be triggered to your benefit.

Card Combos and Interactions

Sample Hand

Sample Hand
Kozmo Farmgirl Emergency Teleport Kozmo Tincan Kozmo Dark Destroyer
Step Description
1 Normal Summon Kozmo Farmgirl, and then enter the battle phase to declare an attack with this card. Once the attack is successful use Kozmo Farmgirl's effect and add a Kozmo Dark Destroyer or Kozmo Forerunner to your hand to deal massive damage.
You may also choose to add Kozmo Sliprider instead of you wish to get rid of annoying spells or trap cards.
2 Activate Emergency Teleport to special summon another Psychic Kozmo monster from your deck other than Kozmo Farmgirl.
3 Activate Kozmo Farmgirl's to special summon Kozmo Forerunner or Kozmo Sliprider depending on what you need, and then declare an attack with that special summoned monster.
You may also choose to special summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer if you have 2 in your hand, but do not use it's optional effect of destroying a monster on the field when summoned.
4 Activate the other Psychic Kozmo monster's effect you have on the field (that isn't Kozmo Farmgirl) to special summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer. Use Kozmo Dark Destroyer's optional effect when summoned to destroy the other Machine Kozmo monster that was special summoned and attacked already to special summon another Kozmo monster from your deck.
5 Attack with the newly summoned Kozmo Dark Destroyer and the other special summoned Kozmo monster from the deck.

Kozmo Sliprider and Cyber Dragon Infinity

Sample Cards on Hand
Kozmo Strawman Kozmo Sliprider Emergency Teleport Reasoning
Step Description
1 Activate Reasoning, for a chance to Special Summon a monster or send one to the GY.
2 Normal Summon Kozmo Strawman, then activate its second effect to Special Summon a banished "Kozmo" monster only if you have a Kozmo Sliprider in your banished zone; Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider if you do.
3 Activate Kozmo Strawman to Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider from your hand. Use Kozmo Sliprider's optional effect if needed. Special Summon Cyber Dragon Nova from your Extra Deck by using the 2 Kozmo Slipriders you have on your field, then Special Summon Cyber Dragon Infinity by using Cyber Dragon Nova as its material.
4 Activate Cyber Dragon Infinity to take an opponent's monster in Attack Position as material (if needed) before you head in to the Battle Phase. Once during the Battle Phase, use Cyber Dragon Infinity to attack or take out another opponent's monster.
5 Activate Emergency Teleport after the attack to Special Summon Kozmo Farmgirl to make another attack, then use Kozmo Farmgirl's optional effect to add another Kozmo Monster from the deck to your hand and select Kozmo Dark Destroyer or another Kozmo monster with high ATK.
6 Activate Kozmo Farmgirl to Special Summon the newly added "Kozmo" monster from your hand and declare another attack to whittle down your opponent's Life Points.

Kozmo Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Kozmo

For the most part, the main weakness of the Kozmo Deck are more consistent Control Decks, or Aggro Decks that can play through interruption easily with numerous effects.

Anti-Meta Stun

Master Duel - Anti-Meta Stun

Probably the most infuriating Deck to deal against in Master Duel (outside of Snake-Eye as of writing), Anti-Meta Stun has too many floodgates, negates and interruptions

Anti-Meta Stun Deck List & Card Guide

Branded Despia

Master Duel - Branded Despia

Branded Despia is currently one of the best Aggroi Decks in the current meta. It has a simple engine that can bring out powerful Fusion Monsters capable of controlling the field with their effects, which can prevent a "Kozmo" Deck from making any moves without much cost.

Their flexibility with options also makes this Deck very hard to prepare against.

Swordsoul Tenyi

Master Duel - Tenyi Swordsoul

Swordsoul Decks can completely counter any play a Kozmo player can do. Key cards include the ability of Swordsoul Grandmaster - Chixiao to negate the effects of monsters and Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying which gains stats and lowers its opponent's monsters' stats for every banished monster.

Best Cards to Tech Against Kozmo

Macro Cosmos
Macro Cosmos By banishing cards instead of sending them to the graveyard, Macro Cosmos effectively stops the Kozmo loop of special summoning monsters. Both you and your opponent won't be able to us card effects that activate from the Graveyard, so long as this card remains active on the field.
Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure Any monster that is sent to the GY becomes banished instead. While Dimensional Fissure is admittedly a weaker version of Macro Cosmos as it only focuses on monster cards, this is still an effective counter for the "Kozmo" archetype as the higher level monsters rely on being sent to the graveyard to activate their secondary effects.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain For the cost of 1000 LP to activate, Skill Drain is definitely a good counter for "Kozmo" monsters. It prevents them from using their effects, while allowing "Kozmo" boss monsters to be targetable by card effects. As a Continuous Trap Card, "Kozmo" users will have to rely on creative ways to bypass this cards effects to win the Duel.
