Rikka Breakdown

Rikka Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Rikka is an archetype of Water Plant monsters. Their playstyle revolves around Tributing monsters on the field and having beneficial effects once tributed for effects.

With this, Rikka excels in controlling the field since their cards lets them from tributing even monsters your opponent controls.

Rikka Petal Rikka Princess Mudan the Rikka Fairy Primula the Rikka Fairy Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy

Rikka Petal is a 1-card combo for the deck as it offers strong agency and flexibility to the deck. It can search any Rikka monster from the deck with its effect.

Rikka Princess is one of the newer cards that catapulted Rikka into relevancy. It can Special Summon itself to the field from hand and it works as a monster negate when in the hand or graveyard as long as you control a Rikka monster.

Mudan the Rikka Fairy is your main searcher for the Field Spell card, Rikka Konkon.

Primula the Rikka Fairy Special Summon itself if a monster you control is Tributed. This works well with Rikka Glamour.

Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy can adjust the level of your monsters on the field, giving flexibility to the Xyz Summon that you will do.

Rikka Konkon Rikka Glamour Rikka Sheet

Rikka Konkon is the archetype's Field Spell. It doesn't do anything on its own. But in conjunction with Rikka's tribute combos, it excels well. It lets you set any Rikka Spell/Trap from the deck once per turn. It also lets you tribute monster your opponent controls for your Tribute effects that require plant monster.

Rikka Glamour is the main search Spell card of the archetype. It searches for any Rikka monster from the deck. It also lets you tribute a plant monster to search for any Plant monster from the deck with the same level as the Rikka monster you searched.

Rikka Sheet's effect is similar to Widow Anchor's effect. It lets you negate and take control of monster your opponent controls. Adding another layer of disruption for the deck's Tributing shenanigans.

Core Combo and Interactions

Rikka Petal Basic Setup

Required Cards
Rikka Petal
Step Description
1 Normal Summon Rikka Petal then activate its effect to add Mudan the Rikka Fairy from the Deck to hand.
2 Activate Mudan the Rikka Fairy's Effect from hand by Tributing Rikka Petal on the field to Special Summon itself. Mudan will then activate its on-summon effect to add Rikka Konkon from the deck to hand.
3 Activate Rikka Konkon then use its effect to Set Rikka Glamour from the Deck.
4 Activate Rikka Glamour , tribute Mudan with its effect to add Primula the Rikka Fairy and Rikka Princess from the deck to hand.
5 Activate Primula and Rikka Princess from hand to Special Summon them.
6 Overlay Primula and Rikka Princess to Xyz Summon Rikka Queen Strenna.
7 Activate Strenna's effect by detaching Rikka Princess to add back Rikka Glamour from the Graveyard.

This will be the bread and butter combo of the deck.
With just one card, it can easily setup Rikka Strenna that can later be tributed if you have the necessary combo extenders on hand.

Teardrop the Rikka Queen Combo

This combo is continuation from the Rikka Petal Basic Combo up to Step 6.

Required Cards
Rikka Petal Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy
Step Description
7 Activate Strenna's effect by detaching Rikka Princess to add back Rikka Princess from the Graveyard
8 Activate Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy by Tributing Strenna to Special Summon Snowdrop and Rikka Princess from hand.
9 Since Strenna is Tributed while it has an Xyz Material, activate its effect to Special Summon Sacred Tree Beast, Hyperyton.
10 Activate Snowdrop's effect to change the Level of Rikka Princeess to 8. Then Overlay Snowdrop and Rikka Princess to Xyz Summon Teardrop the Rikka Queen.

Your End Board will look like this:

Field Spell:Rikka Konkon
X X
Teardrop the Rikka Queen - Sacred Tree Beast, Hyperyton - -
- - - - -

Notes:
Hyperyton has a Monster for its Xyz Material. It can negate an opponent's monster effect with that.
Rikka Princess is in the Graveyard and can tribute an opponent's monster for its activation cost thanks to Rikka Konkon.
Teardrop is another form of disruption, as it can tribute any monster your opponent controls.

Alternative Options

Sunavalon Engine

Sunseed Genius Loci Sunseed Twin Sunvine Sowing Sunavalon Dryas Sunvine Healer

The Sunavalon Engine consists of Plant-type monsters. It merges well with Rikka as it can easily Link Climb and have multiple monsters on the field for tributing and as a means of a resource.

Aroma Engine

Aromaseraphy Jasmine Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram Aromaseraphy Angelica

The Aroma Engine is a common staple to Plant-centric decks like Rikka. With its Link Monster Aromaseraphy Jasmine, it can easily search any Plant-type monster from the Deck. This engine also protects your monsters as long as you have higher Life Points than your opponent.

Other Monster Options

Spore Rose Girl Mardel, Generaider Boss of Light World Carrotweight Champion Evil Thorn Rose Lover

There are lots of choices for Plant-type decks, as they have multiple options for generic Plant-type monsters.

Most of them can either: Special Summon another copy from the deck, revive itself, or add a Plant-type monster from the Deck. This provides consistent card advantage to this Deck.

Best Cards to Tech Against Rikka

Nibiru, the Primal Being
Nibiru, the Primal Being When users of a Rikka Decks begin their summoning spree, you can quickly tribute as many face-up monsters on the field, and summon this onto your opponent's field.
This will quickly disrupt them from doing any more summons or even stop them from activating their Card Effects.
Infinite Impermanence
Infinite Impermanence This card, when used, effectively negates the activation of a Monster Card's Effect, which ultimately ruins the Summon Momentum Rikka Deck players need to Synchro Summon their strong Boss Monsters onto the field.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit A trap card that limits the summon of both parties to a maximum of two times per turn. This will quickly put a halt to chaining Summons that Rikka Deck users do to quickly bring out their powerful Extra Deck Monsters.
Contact "C"
Contact "C" Contact "C" will pretty much lock down your opponent's Extra Deck as they won't be able to Special Summon from it, unless they use it as Material. Best to use before your opponent brings out Teardrop the Rikka Queen as it can use it as Tribute.
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Using this card, you can quickly cancel specific effects that are at the core of Rikka Decks by discarding this card.
You can apply this whenever your opponent adds cards from the GY to their hand, Deck, or Extra Deck, whenever they Special Summon a Monster Card from the GY, or whenever they banish a card from the GY.

Limit Summons and Negate Card Effects

This Rikka Deck relies on Summoning monsters quickly and activate their effects to disrupt your plays.

Using a combination of spells and traps to stop those summons from happening will quickly put the duel in your favor.
