Budget Ishizu Tearlaments Breakdown

Budget Ishizu Tearlaments Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

One of the most anticipated Decks in Yu-Gi-Oh! has made its way to Master Duel. Tearlaments is an archetype that specializes in Monster effects in the Graveyard to perform myriads of Fusion Summons.

Tearlaments ruled over the competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG & OCG scene for almost a year before getting axed by the banlist. Despite being preemptively hit in Master Duel, Tearlaments is still a force to be reckoned with as they still have tons of cards in their arsenal.

This version of Ishizu Tearlaments caters to budget players out there who want to try to enjoy high-competitive gameplay. Minimal UR cards were used in this list except for some staple cards (assuming you already have them).

These 3 Tearlaments monsters, Scheiren, Havnis, and Merrli all shares the same effect of performing a Fusion Summon when they are sent to the GY by a card effect.

Tearlaments Effect
Tearlaments Scheiren Scheiren During your Main Phase, Special Summon from hand then send 1 monster from hand to GY and mill 3.
Tearlaments Havnis Havnis When your opponent activates a monster effect, Special Summon from hand then mill 3.
Tearlaments Merrli Merrli If Normal or Special Summoned, mill 3.

Similar to the Main Deck Tearlaments monsters, the Tearlaments Fusion Monsters also have an effect when sent to the GY.

Tearlaments Field Effect Sent to GY Effect
Tearlaments Kitkallos Kitkallos Upon Summon, take 1 Tearlament monster from Deck to hand/GY.
Send 1 monster on the field to Special Summon 1 Tearlament from the GY.
Mill 5 cards.
Tearlaments Rulkallos Rulkallos Other Aqua monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle.
Negate and destroy an opponent's effect activation that Special Summons a monster, then send a Tearlament monster from hand/field to GY.
Special Summon this Fusioned Summoned card.
Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart Kaleido-Heart If this is Special Summoned or another Aqua monster is sent to the GY by an effect, shuffle 1 card your opponent controls. Special Summon this card then send 1 Tearlament card from the Deck to GY.

The Ishizu cards are divided into 2 groups. The "Millers" and the "Shufflers".

Ishizu Hand Effect GY Effect
Agido the Ancient Sentinel Agido the Ancient Sentinel If a card is sent to the opponent's GY, Special Summon this card from hand and another Level 4 Fairy Earth monster from GY. Both players mill 5 cards.
Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard If a card is sent to the opponent's GY, return 1 Special Summoned monster your opponent controls then Special Summon this from hand. Both players mill 5 cards.
Keldo the Sacred Protector Keldo the Sacred Protector Discard 1 Earth Fairy to Special Summon this card then add 1 card that mentions "Exchange of the Spirit" in its effect from the Deck to hand. Banish this card in the GY (Quick Effect), return 3 cards in any GY to the Deck.
Mudora the Sword Oracle Mudora the Sword Oracle Discard 1 Earth Fairy to Special Summon this card then place 1 "Gravekeeper's Trap" from the Deck to your Spell & Trap Zone. Banish this card in the GY (Quick Effect), return 3 cards in any GY to the Deck.
Versago the Destroyer Supreme Sea Mare Danger! Mothman! Danger! Nessie!

Versago the Destroyer is the budget option for King of the Swamp. Since this deck does not have Tearlaments Reinoheart, Versago the Destroyer acts as its proxy when Fusion Summoning Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart.

Alternatively, you can also use Versago when Summoning Tearlaments Rulkallos if Tearlaments Kitkallos is not available.

Supreme Sea Mare is the budget choice for Tearlaments Reinoheart. Supreme Sea Mare lets you send any Aqua Monster from the Deck to the GY when it is Summoned, making this a good combo starter for the Deck.

Lastly, Danger! Mothman! and Danger! Nessie! can randomly discard any Tearlament monster in your hand when you activate their effects. Moreover, Danger! Nessie! is an Aqua-type monster that can be used as a material for Fusion Summon.

Upgrading Budget Ishizu Tearlaments

Core High Rarity Cards

Upgrading the deck is not an issue at all if you have enough Materials and Gems.

Primeval Planet Perlereino Instant Fusion Super Polymerization

The Tearlaments Field Spell card, Primeval Planet Perlereino should be the first card to get when upgrading the deck. It gives more consistency as it searches any Tearlaments monster when activated. It also provides disruption while active on the field.

Next is Instant Fusion as it can Special Summon Tearlaments Kitkallos which will open up the combo plays of the Deck.

Super Polymerization on the other hand, is not a mandatory card to use in Ishizu Tearlaments deck. But it is nice to have it as mirror matches will be more common the higher you climb in rank.

Upgrading Budget Choices

Budget Option Upgrade
Supreme Sea Mare x3
SR
Tearlaments Reinoheart x3
UR
Tearlaments Reinoheart is way better than Supreme Sea Mare as it can Special Summon itself when sent to the GY by effect.
Tearlaments Grief x2
R
Tearlaments Scream x2
UR
Tearlaments Scream offers more flexibility than Tearlaments Grief. It mills by itself, making it easier for you to execute your combo.

Boss Monsters

Tearlaments Kitkallos
Tearlaments Kitkallos Tearlaments Kitkallos is one of the main boss monsters of the Deck. It can easily add any Tearlaments monster upon Summon. It also mills 5 when an effect sends it to the GY.
Tearlaments Rulkallos
Tearlaments Rulkallos Tearlaments Rulkallos protects other Aqua monsters you control from battle destruction. Rulkallos also negates an effect activation that Special Summons a Monster.
Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart
Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart When Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart is Special Summoned or an Aqua monster is sent to the GY by an effect, you can shuffle 1 card your opponent controls to the Deck. Kaleido-Heart also revives itself when sent to the GY by an effect.

Exosisters excel in banishing cards even during the opponent's turn. They also utilize cards like Dimension Shifter, which most GY-reliant decks hate.

Best Cards to Tech Against Budget Ishizu Tearlaments

D.D. Crow
D.D. Crow Activating D.D. Crow in response to any Tearlaments GY effect can negate the Fusion Combos of the deck completely.
Dimension Shifter
Dimension Shifter Tearlaments rely heavily on the GY to activate and resolve their effects. Directly banishing them prevents them from playing at all.
Infinite Impermanence
Infinite Impermanence One of Tearlaments' choke points is having Kitkallos' effects negated. Holding Infinite Impermanence or any similar card that can negate Kitkallos can stop Tearlaments from building their field.
Abyss Dweller
Abyss Dweller Abyss Dweller is a "Turn Off" button for any GY-reliant deck. It negates effects in the GY for an entire turn, greatly slowing down Tearlaments.
Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure Dimensional Fissure is a strong floodgate against Tearlaments. It directly banishes any monster that would be sent to the GY. Tearlaments rely on getting its card sent to the GY for them to activate their effects.
