Gishki Spright Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Master Duel - Gishki Spright

The Gishki archetype are known for their Ritual Monsters, but the underrated part of them are their low level monsters in the Main Deck, who for the most part do not have once-per-turn clauses in their search effects.

To fix the low level monsters' vulnerability, the Spright Engine is added in to make use of those monsters and turn them into powerhouses.

Main Deck Monsters

Gishki Abyss Gishki Grimness Gishki Vision Gishki Shadow

There are only three regular Effect monsters for the "Gishki" archetype players have to consider, giving space to the rest of the Deck for the Spright Engine.

Two of the three Level 2 "Gishki" monsters searches out a crucial card for the combo; Gishki Abyss searches out a "Gishki" monster with 1000 DEF or less, Gishki Vision can search a "Gishki" Ritual Monster.

Gishki Grimness can Special Summon a "Gishki" monster straight from the Deck when summoned. Gishki Shadow can be discarded to search out a "Gishki" Ritual Spell card.

Crucially, Gishki Grimness, Gishki Shadow and Gishki Vision share the effect that they can be used as the entire tribute when Ritual Summoning a "Gishki" Ritual Monster.

Evigishki Neremanas Gishki Zielgigas

The two Ritual Boss Monsters for this Deck both boast impressive ATK, and often can be a game-winner when on the Field.

Gishki Zielgigas can provide a free draw ever turn, and if the drawn card is a "Gishki" monster, it can shuffle a card from the Deck to the GY for free.

The newest addition is Evigishki Neremanas, which has a Special Summon effect upon being Ritual Summoned, and a monster negate effect to also shuffle its negated card back to the Deck.

Spright Blue Spright Jet Spright Carrot Spright Red

The Spright Engine is a little less consistent now that Spright Jet has been made Limited, but the set of cards remain strong as ever. Any Level 2 monster on your side of the field allows these monsters to be Special Summoned from the hand once per turn.

Their effects are pretty simple:

  • Spright Blue searches out a "Spright" Monsterfrom the Deck
  • Spright Jet searches out a "Spright" Spell/Trap from the Deck
  • Spright Carriot negates monster effects once per turn
  • Spright Red negates Spell/Trap effects once per turn
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Maxx "C"

Always run three copies each of Maxx "C" and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Their impact in Master Duel's meta is unparalleled to this day, and having them at maximum copies is mandatory until they get hit in some way in the banlist.

Spell Cards

Focused Aquamirror

The Gishki archetype got a powerful searcher in Focused Aquamirror, which its search effect not having any once-per-turn restriction whatsoever. Banishing this card from the GY while controlling the "Gishki" monster can set a "Aquamirror" Spell/Trap from the Deck, which can be used to your advantage later in the Duel.

Spright Starter

Spright Starter is the only "Spright" Spell Card needed for the Deck, as it's a combo piece that Special Summons a "Spright" monster from the Main Deck. Depending on what Spright monster is missing on the board, this card can fill in the missing piece.

Gishki Aquamirror Gishki Nekromirror

Gishki Aquamirror provides a way to Ritual Summon your "Gishki" Ritual monsters. When in GY, it can shuffle itself back to the Deck, and recycles a "Gishki" Ritual monster from there back to your hand.

The newest addition, Gishki Nekromirror, is the game-changing Ritual Spell Card for the archtype. Though it makes the user lose LP based on the ATK of the Ritual Monster it summons, it can use any one monster the opponent controls to be the tribute fodder.

Book of Moon Called by the Grave Triple Tactics Talent

The rest of the Spell Cards are meant to support and protect the combos of your Deck. Book of Moon is becoming a common counter once again for Monsters with effects that trigger while they're on the field.

Called by the Grave and Triple Tactics Talent are cards that counter hand traps, either by banishing and negating them or providing a plethora of effects that benefit the player.

Extra Deck Monsters

Gigantic Spright Spright Elf Spright Sprind

The Spright Engine is what helps the Gishki monsters from not being too locked into their Ritual-based playstyle, and provide them options in the Extra Deck. Just two Level 2 monsters is enough to summon Gigantic Spright, which can immediately open up the Spright Engine into monsters like Spright Elf and Spright Sprind.

Cat Shark Herald of Pure Light Number 29: Mannequin Cat Onibimaru Soul Sweeper Sky Cavalry Centaurea

Other Rank 2 Xyz monsters in the Extra Deck are staples in other variants of Decks that run the Spright Engine. Cards like Cat Shark and Sky Cavalry Centaurea provide additional offensive support, while Herald of Pure Light can shuffle cards back from the GY back to the Deck.

Number 29: Mannequin Cat can steal an opponent's monster from the GY, then provide another Special Summon from your side. Onibimaru Soul Sweeper can temporarily banish a monster from the Field that could be a disruption to your plays.

Downerd Magician Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder

Since this Deck runs low-Rank Xyz Monsters, the classic combo of Downerd Magician and Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder is possible to run as a last resort to clear the field of all potential threats.

Knightmare Unicorn Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax Underworld Goddess of the Closed World

Other Link Monsters are classic staples for Decks that can run them. Knightmare Unicorn can bounce a card back to the hand from the Field. Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax is a powerful Link Monster in battle, and can be quite hard to get rid of.

The Link Monster with the highest Link Rating, Underworld Goddess of the Closed World, can make use of a monster the opponent controls as material, as well as negate Special Summons once per turn.

Core Combos and Interactions

Gishki Grimness One-Card Combo

Gishki Grimness, as the newest addition to the Gishki archetype in Master Duel, has provided a way to Special Summon another Level 2 monster from the Deck. This combo can make full use of the Spright Engine.

Card(s) Needed on Hand
Gishki Grimness
Step Description
1 Normal Summon Gishki Grimness, and activate its effect to Special Summon Gishki Abyss from the Deck.
2 Upon being Special Summoned, activate the effect of Gishki Abyss; search out a copy of Gishki Shadow from the Deck to add to your hand.
3 Using Gishki Abyss and Gishki Shadow as materials, Link Summon into Spright Elf.
4 Activate the effect of Spright Elf to Special Summon Gishki Abyss from the GY. This triggers the latter monster's effect again; use Gishki Abyss to search Gishki Vision from the Deck to the hand.
5 Activate the effect of Gishki Shadow from the hand; discard it, then add Gishki Aquamirror from the Deck to the hand.
If the opponent has a monster on their side of the field, you might want to consider Gishki Nekromirror instead.
6 Activate Gishki Vision from the hand; discard it, and add a copy of Evigishki Neremanas to add to your hand.
If your opponent does have a monster and you grab Gishki Nekromirror...
7 Activate Gishki Nekromirror; tribute a monster the opponent controls, then Ritual Summon Evigishki Neremanas on one of the Monster Zones pointed at by Spright Elf's Link Markers.
8 Activate the effect of Evigishki Neremanas upon being Ritual Summoned; Special Summon Gishki Grimness from the Graveyard.
Then, using Gishki Abyss and the recently summoned Gishki Grimness as materials, Xyz Summon Gigantic Spright.
9 Activate Gigantic Spright's effect; Special Summon Spright Blue from the Deck. Activate its effect afterwards; and add Spright Jet from the Deck to the hand.
10 Having a Level 2 monster on the field, you can Special Summon Spright Jet straight from the hand. Activate its effect afterwards; and search Spright Starter to add to the hand.
11 Using Spright Blue and Spright Elf as materials, Xyz Summon Number 29: Mannequin Cat.
12 Activate Spright Starter from the hand; Special Summon Spright Carrot from the Deck.

Boss Monsters

Evigishki Neremanas
Evigishki Neremanas Evigishki Neremanas is the newest boss monster of the "Gishki" archetype, and it enables the Deck quite a lot. It Special Summons a WATER monster in the GY when Ritual Summoned, and this monster cannot be destroyed by battle against a monster from the Extra Deck. It also provides an omni-negate by bouncing a "Gishki" Ritual Monster from the field--which can also include itself.
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder is the classic end board monster often used on desperation plays. Its Quick Effect to completely wipe the field of cards other than itself can be a game changer or a lifesaver, depending on how the player uses it. As per usual, it is also accompanied with Downerd Magician to get more materials attached.
Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax
Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax Usually summoned with the help of I:P Masquerena, Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax can gain the ATK of the monsters it battles once per battle. When summoned on the Extra Monster Zone, it also becomes immune to targeted card effects.
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World
Underworld Goddess of the Closed World With the number of monsters a full combo can have on the Field, Underworld Goddess of the Closed World is a great card to surprise the opponent with--especially with its effect of using one of their monsters as materials for this LINK-5 monster. It also negates Special Summons, further locking down the opponent from making any plays.

Gishki Spright Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Gishki Spright

Kashtira

Master Duel - Kashtira

Kashtira has now become a force to be reckoned with when going first thanks to the addition of Kashtira Arise-Heart. Gishki Spright might have a better shot if it goes first against this Deck.

Kashtira Deck List & Card Guide

Labrynth

Master Duel - Labrynth

Labrynth Decks have a lot of interrupts available at their disposal due to the Trap Cards it runs in the Deck Recipe. The omni-negate can mitigate some of their effects, but an onslaught of Trap Cards can be quite hard to break through.

Labrynth Deck List & Card Guide

Anti-Meta Stun

Master Duel - Anti-Meta Stun

Easily the most annoying Deck that players can encounter, this Deck is simply going against the meta with stuns, interrupts and floodgates. If this Deck manages to set up, it can be downright impossible to defeat them without clearing their back row.

Anti-Meta Stun Deck List & Card Guide

Mikanko

Master Duel - Mikanko Ritual

Mikanko and their affinity to reflect battle damage using monsters with 0 ATK is one of the more frustrating Decks against Gishki Spright, especially if the latter has numerous Kaijus to summon for them to use as a beatstick.

Mikanko Deck List & Card Guide

Best Cards to Tech Against Gishki Spright

Kurikara Divincarnate
Kurikara Divincarnate A Gishki Spright Deck can be prime pickings for a single summon of Kurikara Divincarnate, and it gets stronger for each Special Summoned monster it tributes. It acts like a Kaiju monster, and is currently a rising pick for hand traps against Special Summon-heavy Decks.
Evenly Matched
Evenly Matched If the Gishki Spright Deck doesn't manage to set up its negates properly, numerous monstres are going to be banished face-down with an Evenly Matched right after the Battle Phase. This will be even more devastating if this card ends up destroyed before the effect is resolved.
Dark Ruler No More
Dark Ruler No More Not even a fully-built Field is safe from Dark Ruler No More, which cannot be responded with monster effects--that means Spright Carrot cannot negate this Spell Card whatsoever. Once this card resolves, the Deck's negates are basically rendered useless.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain As long as Skill Drain remains face-up and active on the field, all Effect Monsters are neutralized and cannot use their effects while on the field. All of Sprights and Gishki have this very condition with their Main Deck and Extra Deck Monsters, thus cripping the Deck immensely.
