Harpie Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

The Harpie archetype focuses on disrupting your opponent's playstyle by ruining the momentum by sending your opponent's monsters back to their hand or even destroying their spell or traps. It's definitely one of the more annoying archetypes to fight against.

Cyber Slash Harpie Lady Harpie Harpie

Cyber Slash Harpie Lady and Harpie's Pet Dragon - Fearsome Fire Blast are the staples to the Harpie archetype. Both are easy enough to summon and provide a huge amount of support that can turn the game around.

Cyber Slash Harpie Lady lets you return a monster on the field to the user's hand when a spell or trap gets activated, which is useful for getting rid of your opponent's powerful monsters. Harpie's Pet Dragon - Fearsome Fire Blast on the other hand protects your Lv 6 or lower Harpie monsters from being targeted for an attack.

Harpie's Pet Phantasmal Dragon is a bit harder to summon as it requires three Lv 4 Wind monsters but makes up for it with it's effects. While this card has materials your opponent cannot target any Harpie monsters with effects or attacks and this card can attack your opponent directly as well. You'll need to detach 1 material from this card during each of your End Phases but with an ATK power of 2000 , you'll be able to deal a lot of damage before this monster goes anywhere.

Harpies Hysteric Sign Elegant Egotist Harpie

The Harpie spells and traps provides different types of utilities depending on what you need. Harpies' Hunting Ground gives your Winged Beast monsters a 200 boost to their ATK and DEF, it also destroys spells and traps on the field whenever a Harpie Lady or Harpie Lady Sisters gets Normal or Special Summoned. This is considered a double edged sword as this effect is not optional, so be careful!

Hysteric Sign lets you add a Elegant Egotist from your deck to your hand, which lets your special summon a Harpie Lady or Harpie Lady Sisters from your hand or deck as long there's a Harpie Lady on the field. This can let you bring out Cyber Slash Harpie Lady immediately. It also functions as a searcher if it gets sent to the graveyard as it lets you add up to 3 Harpie cards with different names from each other from your deck to your hand.

Harpie's Feather Storm negates your opponent's monster effect for a single turn as long as you have a Wind Winged Beast monster on the field, it may also be activated from the hand if you control a Harpie monster.

Core Combos and Interactions

The main goal for the Harpie archetype is to bring out Cyber Slash Harpie Lady, Harpie's Pet Dragon - Fearsome Fire Blast, and Harpies' Hunting Ground as early as possible. Cyber Slash Harpie Lady will help you get rid of annoying and powerful monsters your opponent controls, while Harpies' Hunting Ground can help you clear out spells and traps on the field whenever a Harpie Lady or Harpie Lady Sisters gets Normal or Special Summoned, and Harpie's Pet Dragon - Fearsome Fire Blast provides a protective wall from attacks for your Lv 6 or lower Harpie monsters.

Once you set up these three cards, you'll be able to control the flow of the game to your advantage gradually cornering your prey, earning you your victory.

Most of the Harpie monsters are also made up of Lv 4 monsters which makes for a great synergy for Rank 4 XYZ monsters such as: Ice Beast Zerofyne, Number 39: Utopia, and Lightning Chidori. Sometimes Harpie monsters wil need a lil bit of help dealing with certain enemies so make sure to use this to your advantage and surprise your enemies!

Boss Monsters

Cyber Slash Harpie Lady
Cyber Slash Harpie Lady Can easily be summoned by using Harpie monsters as a Tuner. Once per turn, when a Spell or Trap gets activated this card can let you choose 1 monster your opponent controls or a Harpie monster you control to return to the hand.
Harpie's Pet Dragon - Fearsome Fire Blast
Harpie Monsters cannot target Lv 6 or lower Harpie monsters for attacks. Once per turn, you can special summon this card from your hand in Defense position if you control a Lv 6 or lower Harpie monster.
Harpie's Pet Phantasmal Dragon
Harpie While the materials needed to summon this card is kinda steep, (three Lv 4 Wind Monsters) it's effects surely make up for this. As long as this card has materials your opponent cannot target any Harpie monsters with effects or attacks and this card can attack your opponent directly as well. You'll need to detach 1 material from this card during each of your End Phases but that's a lot of time to work with.

Harpie Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Harpie

Control Decks

Eldlich Control

To beat Harpie Decks, you'll need to negate and disrupt their Summons and Effect activations.

A deck that forces the opponent to use up Monster Effects, interrupt Summons, and exhaust resources can turn the tide of the battle.

Decks like Eldlich Control, Runick, Labrynth, and Dinomorphia are Decks that might be too much for a Harpie player to handle.

Best Cards to Tech Against Harpie

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring This card can quickly counter most of the effects needed by the Harpie archetype to set up their board, as the Harpie archetype does rely on its ability to recycle resources from the GY in order to properly maintain control of the field.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain While Harpies may be frustrating to play against, keep in mind that it relies heavily on the effects of Harpie monsters to properly set up, Skill Drain takes up any hope left in your opponent from winning the duel as this card disrupts channelers or even Boss monster effects, rendering them useless.
The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode
The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode Harpies can quickly swarm up the field which makes it the perfect target for The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode, since it can use monsters as tributes on any side of the field. It can quickly turn an overwhelming situation into a more promising one in just a single move.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit Harpies rely on multiple summons in a single turn to bring out powerful monsters that can control the flow of the game. Summon Limit puts a halt to that by limiting summons to just twice per turn, which can prove to be more than just a headache for Harpie users.

Seriously missing "Wing Requital" for this deck, with the condition of 2 wing beasts with different 'original' names on field, its a 600lp cost pot of greed (draw 2), absolutely amazing for any winged beast focus deck
