Players can technically play the new Genesys Format already in Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel, even if it is not yet an official format in the game itself. See what are the fundamental changes between the traditional format and Genesys, and how to play the format with friends and other Duelists!

Theoretically, Duelists can already play Genesys Format in Master Duel by using the Duel Room and setting the banlist restriction to Unlimited. Players can just create Decks based on the format's rules afterwards. Though this means you either have to enter a room that is dedicated in playing Genesys, or play with people from your Friend list planned ahead of time.
Keep in mind that the current list of cards affected in Genesys Format has cards that have not yet been released in Master Duel, such as the Dracotail, Mitsurugi and K-9 archetypes.

For players in Master Duel, the best way to play Genesys Format in Master Duel is to either grab a couple of friends online and play Master Duel from there, or to find a Duel Room that is dedicated in playing the new format.

Players can join or even create Duel Rooms that look to be dedicated for Genesys Format.
Should you decide to make one to duel in Genesys Format, make sure to change the Forbidden/Limited List setting to Unlimited instead to enable all cards in Master Duel's current card pool.

Though at the moment players cannot make custom comments or change the titles of the moves, we can suggest using a couple of their pre-made comments to signal players that you are following Genesys rules.

The first big change in Genesys Format is the reveal that Pendulum Monsters and Link Monsters are not allowed in this format.
They will be completely removed from the format's card pool, including different versions of Pendulum Monsters that are also classified as Fusion, Synchro, Ritual and Xyz.

The second biggest change is that the Extra Monster Zones will be removed from the Field as well.
This means the original Field prior to Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Master Rule 4 will be used: five Monster Zones, five Spell/Trap Zones, and one Field Spell Zone on each side.
There is no Forbidden and Limited Card List for the Genesys Format. Just about every single card that can be used in proper Yu-Gi-Oh! Duels are legal.
Instead, a Points System will be used to balance Deck lists from using too many of the stronger cards that can make the overall power of a Deck stronger.

Cards that have significant power will have a designated point. The higher the assigned point, the stronger the perceived strength it carries into a Duel.
Raigeki5 Points |
Pot of Greed30 Points |
Abyss Dweller100 Points |
For example, from the official announcement, Raigeki is assigned to have 5 points. Pot of Greed, a card that has been banned in all formats since the early days of the TCG and OCG, will have 30 points. Abyss Dweller, who just got recently marked as Forbidden in both TCG and Master Duel, will make use of 100 points by itself!
Decks cannot go over an assigned Point Cost Cap, which might differ depending on the rules.
According to the announcement, the standard Point Cap for Genesys is set to 100 points. Players can check out the full list of cards initially affected in its introduction in the official Yu-Gi-Oh! Website, along with their assigned point value.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Genesys Format Announcement
Because of the assigned Point System, theoretically all cards are allowed to be played at 3 copies. The only thing limiting Duelists from doing so is the Points System having a ceiling that all players must adhere to.

Unless specified for certain events, the total Point Cost will be combined from the cards used in both the Main Deck and Extra Deck.
This means that if the player already runs a card(s) that has reached the 100 point cap in the Deck List, they cannot make use other cards with points on either Deck unless they remove the card(s) that will lower the point total.
