Anti-Meta Stun Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

The name of the Deck says it all: this Deck was built to be an anti-meta response against Decks that either define or follow the meta of constant effect activations and multiple summons in a single turn.

No combos to learn in this Deck; it is just all counterpunches that deny the opponent a chance to properly play Yu-Gi-Oh!

Main Deck Monsters

Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo Inspector Boarder Thunder King Rai-Oh

These three monsters act as floodgates while they remain face-up on the field, and it denies a usual Meta Deck chances to play out their strategy simply by Normal Summoning these cards.

Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo denies the opponent any chance to Special Summon at all. Inspector Boarder acts as a pseudo-Skill Drain, depending on the number of Monster Card types that was on the field.

Thunder King Rai-Oh prevents all search effects, only allowing players to add cards to their hand via drawing. If the player tries to Special Summon, tributing this card negates that Summon.

Gravekeeper Jowgen the Spiritualist

Jowgen the Spiritualist also helps out in stopping any Special Summons, but has the added benefit of destroying all Special Summoned monsters on the field. Gravekeeper's Commandant is here simply to get Necrovalley added to the hand as soon as possible.

Spell Cards

Card of Demise Pot of Extravagance Pot of Prosperity

Since the Deck doesn't have a lot of ways to search out its key cards, you have to look somewhere else for resource management. Pot of Extravagance works here since you usually don't need to access the Extra Deck; it can just be used as resource fodder for this Spell Card. The same can be said for Pot of Prosperity.

Card of Demise should be used sparingly, especially if you have no more cards left on hand after activation. This can potentially let you draw up to 3 cards, and you can simply ignore the Special Summon effect demerit after activation.

Harpie Raigeki

Harpie's Feather Duster and Raigeki are the best field-clearing cards in the entire game, and if the opponent cannot protect their own cards, you may have basically won the Duel. As soon as you clear the field with these two cards, get your floodgates on the field as soon as possible.

Trap Cards

Evenly Matched Macro Cosmos

A lot of decks topping the current meta in Master Duel do not like it when their cards get banished. Try to take advantage of cards that send them to be banish pile instead of the Graveyard, especially cards that trigger when sent there.

Macro Cosmos punishes Decks that heavily focuses on sending cards to the GY; as long as this card is active, they're banished instead.

Meanwhile, Evenly Matched is a great card to have on hand when going second in a Duel. Activate this while you control no cards during the end of the Battle Phase, and the opponent is forced to banish all but 1 card from the field.

Crackdown

Crackdown lets you steal the opponent's monster so long as the Continuous Trap is active on the field. While you might not be able to attack with it or activate its effects, it is still a unique way of denying the opponent strong monsters.

Solemn Judgment There Can Be Only One

Solemn Judgment is to deal with any Spell Card, Trap Card, or the summon of a Monster. At the cost of half your Life Points, you can negate something powerful from the opponent.

One of the best floodgate Trap Cards is There Can Be Only One, which can bottleneck a Deck that uses multiple monster types.

Boss Monsters

Do remember that this Anti-Meta Stun Deck doesn't use the Extra Deck as a resource pool. Your key mosnters are all in the Main Deck.

Thunder King Rai-Oh
Thunder King Rai-Oh So long as Thunder King Rai-Oh is on the field, the opponent cannot add cards to their hand outside of drawing them. Search effects are essentially nullified while this monster remains face-up.
Inspector Boarder
Inspector Boarder Inspector Boarder acts like a monster-card version of Skill Drain, so long as there are less monster types on the field compared to the previous turn.
Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo prevents both players from Special Summoning any monster, so long as this monster remains active and face-up on the field.

Best Decks to Use Against Anti-Meta Stun

Floowandereeze Top Image

Floowandereeze can run away with this battle of Control Decks, especially if it manages to go first or brings out the key monster that stops effects while monsters are in Attack Position.

Master Duel - Ghoti Top Image

Ghoti Decks benefits from having cards banished--which quite a number of alternate options in a Stun Deck work with. Ghoti Decks can end up with powerful monsters in the more unorthodox ways.

Master Duel - Umi Control Top Image

Umi Control can be very equal to a Stun Deck, and it all comes down to which Deck manages to get their key cards on the field as fast as possible. Just take note that Umi Control does have a couple of Special Summons, as some of their monsters have high ATK but high Levels.

Best Cards to Tech Against Anti-Meta Stun

Ash Blosom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring There are quite a number of draw and search effects in an Stun Deck, just to keep up its card advantage as much as possible. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring can immediately put a stop to the Deck getting more resources on hand.
Harpie's Feather Duster
Harpie Unless Stun Deck has a negate set up to deal with this Spell Card, Harpie's Feather Duster will absolutely destroy any set-up the Deck will have in the Spell/Trap Zone.
Raigeki
Raigeki Besides the negates, there's nothing to protect the monsters from any card destruction effect. Raigeki will clear the monsters and immediately remove the problematic monsters.
Evenly Matched
Evenly Matched Evenly Matched is one of the more popular field-clearing effects, especially with all of the effects that trigger if a card gets destroyed. The most appropriate timing to activate it leaves the opponent with only one card on the field.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain So long as Skill Drain remains active and face-up on the field, all the monsters of the Stun Deck are simply monsters, not floodgates.
Red Reboot
Red Reboot Red Reboot negates a Trap Card, and prevents the opponent from activating any more Trap Cards for the rest of the turn.
