Snake-Eyes Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Master Duel - Snake-Eyes Banner

Snake-Eyes may have a lot of low-level, low-stat monsters in the Main Deck, but its strength lies in its ability to get monsters on the field easily in order to Link Summon.

The Deck's pro-active playstyle allows them to conduct plays even during the opponent's turn, and rip resources from them to make the card advantage even bigger.

Diabellstar Engine

Diabellstar the Black Witch WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye

Diabellstar the Black Witch is often the combo starter for this Deck, and for those that like sending cards to the GY, this is a very good card. On Special Summon, it can set a "Sinful Spoils" Spell or Trap straight from the Deck. Easily, the card to Set and activate afterwards is Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye, which connects this Deck Engine into any Level 1 FIRE monster. In this Deck's case, it's Snake-Eye Ash.

If Diabellstar isn't on hand, WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils simply adds it from the Deck or GY to the hand. It also has a GY effect; banishing itself lets players retrieve another "Sinful Spoils" Spell or Trap from the GY, place it to the bottom of the Deck, then draws a card.

They also have their own Field Spell in Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye, which places a "Snake-Eye" monster from the Deck straight onto the Spell/Trap Zone. Should the opponent Normal or Special Summon a monster while this is active, it can Special Summon a Monster that was placed in the Spell/Trap Zone.

Snake-Eyes

Snake-Eye Ash Snake-Eyes Poplar Snake-Eye Birch Snake-Eye Oak

All of the Level 1 "Snake-Eye" Mosnters share the effect of being able to Special Summon another "Snake-Eye" monster from the Deck, by sending itself and another card from the field to the GY.

Snake-Eye Ash is at three copies, and is a powerful starter that connects with the Diabellstar Engine. As this card is Summoned, it searches out a Level 1 FIRE monster from Deck to hand.

Most of the time, the search target is Snake-Eyes Poplar, which can immediately Special Summon itself when added to the hand outside of drawing it, and searches a "Snake-Eye" Spell/Trap when summoned. It also has a GY effect, targeting a FIRE monster in the opponent's GY, and place it on the Spell/Trap Zone.

The other two "Snake-Eye" monsters are more situational. Snake-Eye Birch can Special Summon itself from the hand if the player controls a FIRE monster, and its Special Summon effect is used more in the opponent's turn. Snake-Eye Oak can retrieve a banished Level 1 FIRE monster to add to the hand.

Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon

The powerhouse of the Main Deck is Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon, which can target a monster the opponent controls and places them in the Spell/Trap Zone. On the opponent's turn, it can Special Summon a monster in Spell/Trap Zones to your side of the field.

If this monster is sent from the hand or Field to the GY, it can Special Summon up to two Level 1 FIRE monsters from the GY.

Hand Traps

Droll & Lock Bird Maxx "C" Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Called by the Grave Crossout Designator Infinite Impermanence

Because of how consice the cards are in this Deck, this leaves a lot of room for the meta-defining hand traps for the Deck. The usual package of Maxx "C", Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Called by the Grave and Crossout Designator fit into the Deck with ease.

Infinite Impermanence can deal with monsters with powerful effects that can further the opponent's advantage, and when activated from Set it nullifies Spells or Traps that activate in the same column. Droll & Lock Bird meanwhile has risen in popularity to counter search effects and draw power, but it also affects the user on resolution.

Other Cards

Jet Synchron Barrier Statue of the Inferno One for One

Jet Synchron allows the Snake-Eye Deck access to Synchro Monster, as it just so happens to be a Level 1 FIRE monster. Keep that in mind when Special Summoning them from a "Snake-Eye" Monster's effect. It can also be cheated out with the help of One for One.

The other card to consider is Barrier Statue of the Inferno, which helps control the pace of the Duel and restrict the opponent if they don't have any FIRE monsters in their Deck.

Triple Tactics Talent Sinful Spoils of Betrayal - Silvera Startling Stare of the Snake-Eyes

Monster Quick Effectsa and hand traps can be easily punished with Triple Tactics Talent once per turn.

As for the archetype-based Trap Cards, Sinful Spoils of Betrayal - Silvera negates a monster by tributing a "Diabellstar" monster. It can also banish itself from the GY to negate an effect that responded against a "Diabellstar" monster.

Startling Stare of the Snake-Eyes can be triggered if the total Levels of all "Snake-Eye" mosnters are 2 and above. It has two options; turn a monster the opponent controls into a Spell/Trap, or Special Summon a monster they have in said Spell/Trap Zones.

Extra Deck Options

Formula Synchron Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon Borreload Savage Dragon Baronne de Fleur Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane

The Deck's focus is more on having Link Monsters, but with Jet Synchron opening options for Synchro Monsters, there are a couple of options. Formula Synchron provides a free draw when used as Synchro Material, and its Quick Effect allows it to Synchro Summon during the opponent's turn. As it is a Level 2 monster, it is perfect to combo with Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon.

If Link Monsters are already in the Graveyard, Borreload Savage Dragon can use them for an ATK boost and a number of omni-negates after it turns a Link Monster into an Equip Card.

For Level 10 monsters, Baronne de Fleur is a classic options due to its omni-negate and card destruction effects. Should Borreload Savage Dragon not have any negates anymore, it can be used as material for Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane.

Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames

The other Link Monsters are mostly standard for Extra Deck options, so the focus here are the unique cards for this Deck. Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze can steal FIRE monsters from the opponent's GY, and if they used Ash Blossom, it can be used as material fodder.

Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames is the key Link Monster in this Extra Deck, and it's the only one with two copies. While it locks the user into only Special Summoning FIRE monsters, it can Special Summon a FIRE monster from your GY once per turn. It can also Special Summon itself from the GY by destroying a FIRE monster you control and a monster the opponent controls.

The newest LINK-4 boss monster is Amphibious Swarmship Amblowhale, which gets stronger for every Link Monster in the GY. It can Special Summon a LINK-3 monster from the GY if this card is destroyed, and by banishing itself from the GY it can destroy a card from the Field.

Boss Monsters

Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon
Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon has one of the rarest effects in Yu-Gi-Oh: turning monsters into Continuous Spells/Traps. This easily bypasses a lot of trigger effects lots of Effect Monsters have in the current meta. It can also Special Summon Level 1 monsters, which benefits the Snake-Eyes archetype well.
Diabellstar the Black Witch
Diabellstar the Black Witch Summoning Diabellstar the Black Witch from the hand is extemely easy. It can spiral out of control if the card it discards for cost has an effect after being sent to the GY, making for some surprising plays. Upon being Summoned, it also searches out a "Sinful Spoil" Spell/Trap and Sets it on the field.
Borreload Savage Dragon
Borreload Savage Dragon With the Deck being able to Link Summon and having a couple of Tuners it can use in the Main Deck, Borreload Savage Dragon is a must-have for the Extra Deck. Its ATK boost and its number of omni-negate effects will depend on the Link Monster it equips itself with.
Baronne de Fleur
Baronne de Fleur If a Deck can Synchro Summon Level 10 monsters, always bring Baronne de Fleur. Its card destruction and omni-negate effects are so powerful that proper, well-timed usage of its effects can single-handedly win its player the Duel.
Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames
Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames While having Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames lock you out of non-FIRE Special Summons, being able to Special Summon one from the GY once per turn, and destroy 1 monster from both players' fields once per turn is a nifty pair of effects.
Accesscode Talker
Accesscode Talker Accesscode Talker is a must-have boss monster if the Extra Deck can Link Summon into LINK-4s. This is often used as a game-ender with its card destruction effect, and a possible ATK boost depending if it uses a Link Monster as one of its materials for summoning.
Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax
Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax needs to be summoned using monsters from the Extra Deck. This is often brought up with the help of I:P Masquerena to make it extremely hard to remove from the field.
Amphibian Swarmship Amblowhale
Currently Unavailable As a Link-centric Deck, Amphibian Swarmship Amblowhale is a new LINK-4 monster worth considering to add to the Extra Deck. It gets stronger for every Link Monster in the GY, has a floating effect that can replace itself with a monster upon being destroyed, and can destroy a card on the field if a LINK-3 monster is destroyed by battle or card effect.

Snake-Eye Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Snake-Eye

Vanquish Soul

Master Duel - Vanquish Soul

Snake-Eye's targeted effects are not going to be as effective against Vanquish Soul, what with their penchant of swapping monsters between the field and hand. Though some of their monsters can be targets for Hiita's Special Summon effect, it gets too powerful to stop once it gets rolling.

Vanquish Soul Deck List & Card Guide

Kashtira

Master Duel - Kashtira

The effects of the Snake-Eye monsters are mostly triggered as they are on the Field. Kashtira Decks will easily punish them by banishing key cards face-down. It becomes even harder to deal with once Arise-Heart and Shangri-Ira are on the field at the same time.

Kashtira Deck List & Card Guide

Mathmech

Master Duel - Mathmech

Mathmech is one of the most hyperaggressive Decks in the game right now, with a full combo that is incredibly hard to break that extends all the way to your turn. Unless you stop the Alembertian combo or the Splash Mage-Update Jammer combo line, it is already game over.

Mathmech Deck List & Card Guide

Best Cards to Tech Against Snake-Eye

Droll & Lock Bird
Droll & Lock Bird Snake-Eye Monsters often have a lot of search effects embedded into their monster effects. Droll & Lock Bird effectively stops all card additions for the rest of the turn if this card is used after the first search effect. However, this goes both ways; so if you have an effect like Maxx "C"'s active to your benefit, it also stops that effect.
Nibiru, the Primal Being
Nibiru, the Primal Being The main combo of a Snake-Eye Deck can easily go up to 5 summons per turn. Once it goes onto 5 and more, Nibiru, the Primal Being can effectively wipe out the entire field, and the "Snake-Eye" player does not have any response for it.
Super Polymerization
Super Polymerization Super Polymerization is gaining traction once again, and is effective against this Deck if it happens to have two "Snake-Eye" Monsters on the field. This card gets even more dangerous if the opponent happens to run Fusion-centric Decks, like Bystial Branded or Tearlaments.
Dark Ruler No More
Dark Ruler No More There is no powerful negate across the Spells and Traps in this Snake-Eye Deck. This makes it weak against Dark Ruler No More, which negates all moinsters they control at the cost of not being able to do any damage until the next turn.
Dimensional Barrier
Dimensional Barrier A Trap-centric player that sniffs out Snake-Eye can make briliant use of Dimensional Barrier, locking them out of using either Synchros or Link Monsters if they can identify how they play the game.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit As aforementioned in Nibiru's case, a usual Snake-Eye Deck can go up to 5 summons or more in a single turn. Summon Limit bottlenecks both players into being able to summon only twice in a single turn.
Macro Cosmos
Macro Cosmos The Snake-Eye archetype considers the GY as an important resource pool; being able to Special Summon cards from there, and utilziing the Diabellstar Deck Engine. Cards that deny the GY, like Dimensional Fissure or Macro Cosmos will interrupt, if not outright stop, any possible play done by the Snake-Eye monsters.
