Fusion-centric Deck that likes having cards be sent to the GY and/or banished Lots of Main Deck Monster effects can trigger from the hand Archetype Fusion Monsters have dedicated Fusion Spell, but also doesn't need them
|
Thunder Dragon is an archetype focused on Fusion Summoning, mostly composed of Light and Dark Attribute Thunder type Monsters. They utilized their effects by discarding themselves or when they are sent to the Graveyard or Banished.
The goal is to Fusion Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus and Thunder Dragon Titan onto the field.
Thunder Dragon Colossus greatly limits the actions of your opponent by locking them out from searching cards from the Deck. Most decks nowadays have a lot of Search effects.
Thunder Dragon Titan, each time a Thunder Monster's Effect is triggered, you'll have the option to destroy cards your opponent controls. This is a non-targeting effect, so it can bypass most Monster Immunities. With this effect, you can easily clear boards making it easier to destroy your opponent's life.
Thunder Dragon utilizes its effect to fuel the Graveyard with Light and Thunder Monster while also maintaining card advantage by searching for another copy of itself.
Thunder Dragonhawk and Thunder Dragonroar are currently in the Limited and Semi-Limited respectively and for a good reason. Hawk lets you reshuffle your hand if it was Banished or sent from the field to the GY, decluttering your hand from dead cards. It also has an Effect to Special Summon from the Banish by discarding itself.
Roar on the other hand lets you recycle Thunder Dragons that are Banished or in the Graveyard. Roar also floats once it is banished or sent from the Field to the Graveyard, letting you summon any Thunder Dragon from the Deck.
Thunder Dragondark and Thunder Dragonmatrix serve as your Bullets for Thunder Dragon Titan as they have Quick Effects that discard themselves to search for another copy from the Deck or Increase an Attack.
This is a very simple combo in which you can summon Thunder Dragon Colossus.
Required Cards | |
---|---|
Step | Description |
1 | Activate Gold Sarcophagus from Hand. Banish Thunder Dragondark from the Deck. |
2 | Activate Thunder Dragondark's effect, searching Thunder Dragonhawk from Deck to Hand. |
3 | Activate Thunder Dragonhawk's Effect by discarding it to Special Summon Thunder Dragondark from Banish. |
4 | Since you already activated a Thunder Monster's effect from Hand, Tribute Thunder Dragondark to Special Sumon Thunder Dragon Colossus. |
This combo is a little bit harder to pull off since Gold Sarcophagus is currently limited. But there are other options for you to Banish Thunder Dragondark like Allure of Darkness, Aloof Lupine, and sometimes using the Chaos engine makes it easier to Banish cards.
Having Thunder Dragon Colossus on the field pretty much stops your opponent from adding cards from Deck to Hand. This easily shuts down decks that have lots of search effects.
This is a simple combo in which you can summon Thunder Dragon Colossus and Thunder Dragon Titan.

Your End Board will look like this:

X | ||||
- | - | - | - |
Notes:
In Step 5, you can instead Link Summon I:P Masquerena. Your end board will have no Titan but will have another form of disruption in the form of Knightmare Unicorn.
In Step 6, if you are running the Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer Engine, you can send Fusion Destiny instead.

Notes:
In Step 7, similar to the Aloof Lupine Combo, you can opt to I:P Masquerena or still do the Verte Anaconda Combo in which you Summon Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer (If you run the DPE Engine) or the more standard Thunder Dragon Titan.
The advantage of this combo is, you do not use your Normal Summon. Thus, having more room for combo extenders.
Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer or more commonly known as the DPE Engine can easily be used in Thunder Dragons as they utilize Fusion Summoning well and they also use Verte Anaconda, making DPE much easier.
The Branded Engine takes much more Main Deck space compared to the DPE Engine. This offers more line of play and depth to the deck. Branded has High Consistency thanks to Aluber the Jester of Despia and a strong board control with Mirrorjade.
The Ishizu P.U.N.K. Engine focuses on the Graveyard effects of cards as well as strong swarming capabilities thanks to their ability to Special Summon multiple monsters in succession.
Similar to the Chaos Engine, the only difference is Ishizu P.U.N.K. Engine can also disrupt the opponent's graveyard.
The Bystial cards are commonly used to banish the opponent's cards in their GY. But Thunder Dragons can benefit from this as well, since "Bystial" cards can also banish from your own GY. This makes it easier for the "Thunder Dragon" monsters to activate their effects.
The key to beating Thunder Dragon Decks is negating & interrupting their Summons & Card Effect activations.
Going with a deck similar to the Drytron Fairy Control Deck that can control the flow of the Duel may turn things to your favor!
Drytron Fairy Deck List and Card Guide
Eldlich the Golden Lord's big Attack points can easily smash Thunder Dragon's boss monsters. It also has a built-in removal that can bypass Colossus' and Titan's Immunity to destruction. Eldlich also has tons of Floodgates at its disposal like Skill Drain and There Can Be Only One.
Eldlich Deck List and Card Guide
Using a combination of spells and traps to interrupt your opponent will quickly put the duel in your favor.
Non-targeting removals similar to Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star can hurt the Deck and easily out Colossus and Titan.
Kaijus serve similar roles as well as they can easily stomp over your boss monsters.

this whole combo is incorrect. you can not add specific thunder dragon cards with “thunder dragon” that card can only add up to 2 cards of its specific kind, not roar or dark or even hawk. took long enough for the deck build to even show up and y’all come out with this lol
