Libromancer Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Compared to all other styles of Special Summoning monsters, Ritual Monsters have a harder time to be used for various reasons; from having the Ritual Monsters to share space in the Main Deck instead of the Extra Deck, to needing Ritual Spells in order to even do a Ritual Summon. Libromancer is one of the Ritual-based archetypes continuing the trend on redefining the strengths a Ritual Deck should have.

Libromancer First Appearance

For the archetype, their twist is their signature Spell Card, Libromancer First Appearance. Rather than a Ritual Spell Card, it's a Field Spell Card, which means it can be used immediately the next turn, instead of Ritual Spells being sent to the GY after activation like a Normal Spell Card. It also doubles as a searcher, finding a "Libromancer" monster with a name different than the ones you control on the field.

Libromancer Fire Libromancer Geek Boy Libromancer Agent Libromancer Magigirl

The Main Deck "Libromancer" monsters provide effects that boost the ability to commit to Ritual Monsters. It encourages the players to go for them as soon as possible, as they can all be Special Summoned from the hand by revealing any 1 Ritual Monster from the hand. Each of the Main Deck accompanies this effect with their own exclusive ones to help out the Deck's playstyle.

For example, Libromancer Fire can Special Summon itself from the hand, and searches out a fellow "Libromancer" monster from the Deck, while Libromancer Geek Boy is the main searcher for "Libromancer" Spell Cards, which is keen in getting Libromancer First Appearance as soon as possible. Libromancer Agent can recycle fellow "Libromancer" cards from the GY, and Libromancer Magigirl can be used as a stand-in to Ritual Monster if the Field Spell isn't at hand already..

Libromancer Doombroker Libromancer Fireburst Libromancer Mystigirl Cyber Angel Benten

The "Libromancer" Ritual Monsters all share an effect where they gain an additional effect if a "Libromancer" monster on the field is used as material to summon them. Libromancer Doombroker can launch attacks directly even if monsters are on the field, Libromancer Fireburst cannot be destroyed by battle and deals double damage, and Libromancer Mystigirl prevents the opponent from targeting Ritual Monsters with effects.

Each of them also support each other through their effects as well. For example, Mystigirl can drain one of the opponent's monsters' ATK to 0 upon being Special Summoned. Fireburst can attack monsters up to twice in single turn, and can boost itself by a small amount when a monster declares an ATK. Doombroker is the most siginificant of the trio, being able to set a Trap directly from the Deck onto the field, and shuffling a monster the opponent controls back to the Deck after dealing battle damage.

Cyber Angel Benten is amazing in just about any Ritual-baseed Deck out there, and it is not different when it comes to Libromancers. If this card is used as tribute for summoning a Ritual Monster, it can search out for a LIGHT Fairy-Type to add to the hand; perfect to get Diviner of the Herald and pivot to other types of Summoning.

Diviner of the Herald Maxx "C" Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion

Diviner of the Herald is the card that can provide a way to pivot Deck strategies, and opens up the Extra Deck for Synchro Monsters and Xyz Monsters. It can toss a Fairy-type from the Deck or the Extra Deck to the GY, and increase its own level equal to the monster that was sent there.

The rest of the monsters in the Extra Deck are all for control, the classic set of hand traps just about every Deck runs in the current meta. Maxx "C" and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spirit are classic choices, but feel free to add Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to deal gainst card recycle effects and card-banishing effects.

Preparation of Rites Cynet Mining Emergency Teleport Pot of Prosperity

While there is no Ritual Spell Card in the Deck recipe, Preparation of Rites can be used to search the Ritual Monsters. Cynet Mining is a key searcher, being able to grab Libromancer Fire as a combo starter. Emergency Teleport is meant to be used on Libromancer Geek Boy, and Pot of Prosperity trades in some Extra Deck options for an excavation effect.

Libromancer Displaced Libromancer Intervention

The two "Libromancer" Trap cards have unique ways in disrupting the opponent, and they can be set on the field straight from the Deck with the help of Libromancer Doombroker's effect. Both have the shared requirement of bouncing a "Libromancer" monster from the field to the hand.

Libromancer Intervention can negate a card or effect, and allows a "Libromancer" monster to be Special Summoned from the hand or GY. Libromancer Displaced steals a monster the opponent controls, although if a non-Ritual Monster was used as tribute, you can only take control of the stolen monster until the end of the turn.

## Boss Monsters
Libromancer Doombroker
Libromancer Doombroker Just by being Ritual Summoned using monsters on the field as material, Libromancer Doombroker can attack directly even with monsters present on the opponent's side of the field, and should it deal damage, it can shuffle back a monster the opponent controls back to the Deck. It also has the ability to directly Set a "Libromancer" Trap Card from the Deck to the field.
Libromancer Fireburst
Libromancer Fireburst When Ritual Summoned using monsters on the field as material, Libromancer Fireburst can no longer be destroyed by battle upon being summoned and deals double the battle damage. It also has the innate ability to attack twice to monsters every Battle Phase. While on the field, if a monster declares an attack, it can banish a fellow "Libromancer" Ritual Monster to gain a small ATK boost.
Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon
Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon is a powerful Synchro Monster that can deal with pesky Effect Monsters. It has a Quick Effect that can negate a monster's effect once per turn, destroy them, and then gain ATK equal to the other's original ATK. It only gets stronger in battle, especially against monsters Level 5 or higher, gaining ATK equal to the other monster's current ATK during damage calculation.
Baronne de Fleur
Baronne de Fleur One of the best Synchro Monsters in the game because of availability, Baronne de Fleur can target and destroy a monster once per turn. It can also negate a card effect once per turn as a Quick Effect, providing protection or disruption when the situation calls for it. Lastly, it has an effect to Special Summon a Level 9 or lower monster from the GY back to the field by returning this monste from the field back to the Extra Deck.
Accesscode Talker
Accesscode Talker A classic addition for Decks that are able to Link Climb with Link Monsters, Accesscode Talker is a great game-ending monster with its self-boosting effect, the ability to destroy cards on the field by banishing different Link Monsters of different attributres, and the innate effect of the opponent not being able to respond with cards or effects in response to this card. Players summoning this card are almost always going for lethal.

Libromancer Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Libromancer

Runick

Runick Top Image

The top Deck of the current meta as of writing, Runick is easily one of the strongest counters against Libromancers, for all of the Quick-Play Spells that the Deck will have quite a lot of trouble responding against. The Deck will also be near unplayable if the Runick player manages to banish copies of Libromancer First Appearance early in the combo.

Runick Control Deck List & Card Guide

Labrynth

Labrynth Top Image

Labrynth Decks have the innate ability to counter with its slew of Trap Cards on hand. They specialize in getting Monster Cards out of the field by any means possible, and the Libromancer monsters prefer having their monsters on the field, especially for committing to Ritual Summoning for their effects. Players going up against Labrynth decks should have ways to get rid of the backrow.

Labrynth Deck List & Card Guide

Floowandereeze

Floowandereeze Top Image

Normal Summons are unavoidable for the most part while playing a Libromancer Deck, and Floowandereeze takes advantage of that with no problem at all, especially if they have their dedicated Field Spell up and active. Without proper countering, the field will have troublesome monsters that the Libromancers will have trouble dealing with before they realize it, and the game is as good as over.

Best Cards to Tech Against Libromancer

Dimension Shifter
Dimension Shifter Because of Runick's current dominance in the meta, Dimension Shifter/ has picked up as a powerful counter. Once it activates from the hand, all other cards meant to be sent to the GY ends up being banished instead, and Libromancer have no effects that take advantage of their cards being banished.
Maxx"C"
Maxx "C" Maxx "C" is a classic counter against Decks that feature a lot of Special Summons in their Deck Recipe, and "Libromancer" Decks have that very same weekness. Unless the player either has an Ash Blossom or a Called by the Grave ready in their hands, this card is a menace to deal with that provides endless card advantage, so long as the player keeps Special Summoning monsters.
Anti-Spell Fragrance
Anti-Spell Fragrance As is tradition of a Ritual Monster-centric Deck, it needs Spells to properly use its playstyle---even if the archetype's Ritual Summoning relies on its dedicated Field Spell instead of Ritual Spells. As such, even delaying the use of Spells will greatly hinder "Libromancers". Anti-Spell Fragrance fits this role very nicely, so long as it remains face-up on the field.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit For a Ritual Summon-based Deck, "Libromancers" have quite a lot of Summons to do in order to have a strong field. To bottleneckt their capabilities, Summon Limit is a good option for Control Decks, making they do not go overboard with their summons, and making the two summons allowed matter a lot.
