Negates are cards that prevent effects in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. Use these staples to see what makes them the best cards in the game!
List of Contents
Sky Striker Mecha - Widow Anchor negates the effect of one face-up monster on the field if you have no monsters in your Main Monster Zone. Additionally, you can control said monster if you have three or more Spells in your Graveyard.
This card is a great option if you are behind on the board. Sky Striker Mecha - Widow Anchor offers a massive tempo swing if you have three or more Spells in your Graveyard.
Forbidden Chalice gives you the option to target a face-up monster on the field and give it 400 ATK while negating its effect. This card could be used as a way to negate an opposing monster's effect or as a finisher if you target your monster.
Dark Ruler No More negates the effects of all opposing face-up monsters. In addition, your opponent can't take damage the turn this card resolves and they can't negate this spell using a monster effect.
Once activated, Solemn Strike can negate either Special Summons or a monster's effect. To do so, you must pay 1500 LP. This card is a prime example of using your LP as an additional resource.
Solemn Judgment can counter both monster summons and Spell/Trap card activation. This, however, comes at the price of half your LP.
We recommend using this card only when your LP is low. Otherwise, you'll be losing out on value.
Once Jinzo is out on the field, it prevents activation of any Trap card. This effect, of course, affects you as well.
Combined with the body it provides, Jinzo is a good option to run in decks that struggle against Trap cards.
Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon can negate a monster's effect once per turn. Additionally, it also destroys that monster.
If you do activate this card's effect, it will also gain the ATK of the destroyed monster. This makes Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon a great finisher on top of being a good negate card.
Being able to negate multiple Effect Monsters in one fell swoop is already good enough, but Forbidden Droplet halving their ATK and the opponent not being able to respond with card types sent with the GY for the card activation.
Expect this Fusion Monster to be out on the field either runs a Predaplant Deck, or has activated Super Polymerization while the Fusion Materials needed are on the field.
Once Predaplant Dragostapelia applies a Predator Counter onto a monster, it has its effects negated so long as this card is active on the field.
For Level 2 Turbo Decks, or Decks that just generally run the Spright Engine, Spright Carrot can keep negating Spells or Traps once per turn, so long as it has a Level 2, Rank 2 Xyz or LINK-2 monster to tribute with.
Part of the Adventurer Engine, Wandering Gryphon Rider has an omni-negate that protects your cards once-per-turn, but it gets shuffled back to the Deck after its effect is activated.
Effect Veiler can often stop combos that keep going through monster effects, as it can negate a monster that triggers on the field. The player using this must not hestitate when using this card--it can only use its hand trap effect during the opponent's Main Phase.
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is one of the most common counters played, and is almost a necessity to have three copies of this card in any Deck.
It has the ability to negate search effects, Special Summons from the Deck, or even a Foolish Burial-like effect.
Called by the Grave provieds a way to negate Monster Effects that usually trigger in the Graveyard, or for cards that are sent to the GY to activate their effects. They get banished, and have their effects (as well as following copies of them) until the end of the next turn.
Crossout Designator is effectively the best way to negate hand traps, given how commonplace they are among Decks in the current meta. You might have to banish your own copy from the Deck, but it is a small price to pay to negate a game-winning effect.
Never mind its ATK being based to the number of materials used to Special Summon Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess. The important part is that it can negate effects once per chain, and it's based on the number of materials.
At maximum, this card can negate up to 4 effects in a single turn, at the cost of reducing its ATK to a possible 0.
If an opponent activates a monster effect while you have this card on hand, after negating the opponent's monster it gets destroyed. After which, PSY-Framegear Gamma Special Summons itself and a copy of PSY-Frame Driver from the Deck.
If you pull this off on your own turn, this is a free Synchro Summon into PSY-Framelord Omega.
One of the many boss monsters in a Drytron Deck, Herald of Ultimateness is the most oppressve. It is also the best among its archetype, being able to not only negate effects, but also negate Special Summons from happening, at the cost of discarding a Fairy-type monster.
This is one of the strongest "Runick" Quick-Play Spells in the archetype. Once it negates a monster on the field, Runick Freezing Curses immediately banishes the top 3 cards from the opponent's Deck.
So long as Skill Drain remains face-up and active on the field, all Effect Monsters on the field automatically have their effects negated. This Continuous Trap Card is a very popular choice for Control Decks.
Mathmech Diameter technically does not have a negate effect on its own. However, it can give this to Synchro or Xyz "Mathmech" monsters, if this card was used as material to summon either of them.
The negation effect is also a Quick Effect, which means it can interrupt combos in a pinch.
One of the most fllexible Synchro Monsters in the game, Baronne de Fleur has a once-per-turn omni-negate with no requirement nor drawback. If the Deck can Synchro Summon, beware of this monster.
Upon being Synchro Summoned, Borreload Savage Dragon can equip itself with a Link Monster in the GY, and it gains the ability to negate effects equal to the Link Rating of the Link Monster.
In late-game situations, this Synchro Monster ideally should have 4 Savage Counters, that being four chances to negate effects.
Not only does Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy negate Spell Cards once per turn, it also absorbs them into its attached materials, letting it use its attack redirect effect more times.
As the name suggests, Negates are cards that stop or interrupt plays made by your opponent. These plays could either be summons, effect activation, or even negates themselves.
Card Negates have been a staple in Yu-Gi-Oh ever since its inception. This is due to the combo-oriented nature of the game.
