Plunder Patroll Breakdown

Plunder Patroll Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Plunder Patroll Decks can be unorthodox to Duel against, with a sense of unpredictability that can turn the tables before the opponent realizes it.

One could imagine this Deck being an Aggro or Beatdown Deck, but the effects among the boss monsters and its counterpunch-like playstyle makes it lean more as a Control Deck instead.

Thematically fitting, given how pirates thematically rule over the seas, Plunder Patrolls try to establish dominance on the field.

Blackeyes, the Plunder Patroll Seaguide Bluebeard, the Plunder Patroll Shipwright Redbeard, the Plunder Patroll Matey Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm Plunder Patroll Shipyarrrd

Players cannot go wrong with three copies of each of these staple cards in the Deck. Blackeyes, Bluebeard, Redbeard and Whitebeard all share the same effect where if they were to be sent from the hand or the Monster Zone to the GY, they can target a Plunder Patroll monster other than a copy of themselves, and equip themselves to it.

Each of them also have a main effect that involves Special Summoning, whether its itself or a monster from the Extra Deck.

Plunder Patroll Shipyarrrd is a crucial card to this Deck, being a Field Spell that grants the Fiend-type Plunder Patroll monsters an ATK boost for each card from the archetype in the Spell & Trap Zone. This card can also Set itself back to the Field Spell Zone if it is in the Graveyard, making this a pesky card to get rid of.

Maxx "C" Forbidden Droplet

Part of the Deck's control playstyle is the plethora of counters and disruptions it has to go against any Deck. Staple cards like Maxx C and Forbidden Droplet are the classic hand traps to go against powerful monster-related situations such as searches and monster effects. D.D. Crow can banish cards sent to the GY even before they can trigger their effects there.

D.D. Crow Bystial Druiswurm Bystial Magnamhut

The following cards are meant to counter Monster cards that are sent to the GY to activate their effects there. D.D. Crow can be run at 3 copies here, but Bystial Druiswurm and Bystial Magnamhut are to counter DARK or LIGHT monsters that use their effects in the GY--specifically, Ishizu Tearlaments.

Emblem of the Plunder Patroll Plunder Patroll Shipshape Ships Shipping Plunder Patroll Booty Plunder Patroll Parrrty

The various "Plunder Patrol" support cards help out the Deck just in case players get stuck in a combo, or are in a pinch. For example, Plunder Patroll Shipshape Ships Shipping is the main Fusion Spell card for the Deck, and serves as an easy way to equip Emblem of the Plunder Patroll onto a monster.

Plunder Patroll Booty can change the Attribute of a monster you target until the end of the turn, and can potentially Special Summon a "Plunder Patroll" monster from the GY.

To maintain card advantage, Plunder Patroll Parrrty lets you draw as many cards as Equip Cards you control on the Field. It can also turn into an Equip Card if this was in the GY and you Special Summon a monster.

Wandering Gryphon Rider Rite of Aramesir Fateful Adventure Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon

The Adventure Engine is added to the Deck for additional protection for the Deck. Minus Water Enchantress of the Temple, the Deck provides a safe bounce effect once during your turn with Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon, and an omni-negate that can be brought out again through Wandering Gryphon Rider, it is a good engine overall to consider.

Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain Plunder Patrollship Lys Plunder Patrollship Brann Plunder Patrollship Jord Plunder Patrollship Moerk

The Extra Deck "Plunder Patroll" monsters are keys to what makes this Deck effective, so take care in clearing out anything that can lock it down.

The crucial monster to get out first in the first turn is Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain. This Link Monster is what enables the free summoning of the Fusion, Synchro or Xyz Plunder Patroll monster on the field by tributing an Effect monster and equipping them to the Extra Deck monster.

Each "Plunder Patrollship" has debilitating effects as well; the Fusion Monster Plunder Patrollship Lys negates monster effects, the Synchro Monster Plunder Patrollship Brann targets Spells or Traps they control and banishes it, and the Xyz Monster Plunder Patrollship Moerk can banish the opponent's effect monsters.

Plunder Patrollship Jord is the newest addition among the cards in this Deck, providing an additional Special Summon straight from the Deck as a counter against the opponent's own Special Summon.

Core Combos and Interactions

Rite of Aramesir-Whitebeard Start

The best hand combo you can go with alongside Rite of Aramsir is Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm, for its effect when discarded lets you Special Summon a "Plunder Patroll" monster straight from the Deck. That opens up a lot of possibilities.

Card(s) Needed
Rite of Aramesir Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm
+ any non-Tuner "Plunder Patroll" Monster
Step Description
1 Activate Rite of Aramsir to Special Summon an Adventure Token, and place a Fateful Adventure face-up on the Spell/Trap Zone.
2 Normal Summon a "Plunder Patroll" monster. This triggers the effect of Fateful Adventure; search out Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon to add to the hand.
3 Activate the effect of Fateful Adventure; search out Wandering Gryphon Rider from the Deck to the hand, then discard Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm.
4 Chain Link 2:Activate Wandering Gryphon Rider from the hand; Special Summon itself from the hand.
Chain Link 1: Activate Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm from the GY; Special Summon Blackeyes, the Plunder Patroll Seaguide straight from the Deck.
5 Using the "Plunder Patroll" monster you Normal Summoned earlier, and Blackeyes, the Plunder Patroll Seaguide as materials, Synchro Summon Plunder Patrollship Jord.
6 Activate the effect of Plunder Patrollship Jord; refresh Blackeyes, the Plunder Patroll Seaguide from the GY back to the hand, and move the Synchro Pendulum Monster to an open Pendulum Zone.
7 Activate the effect of Plunder Patrollship Jord in the Pendulum Zone; select LIGHT as the Attribute, and Special Summon one Token each on both players' respective fields. This also sends the Synchro Pendulum Monster back to the Extra Deck.
8 Activate Blackeyes, the Plunder Patroll Seaguide from the hand; target Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm from the GY, then add it to your hand after you Special Summon Blackeyes.
9 Using Blackeyes, the Plunder Patroll Seaguide and the LIGHT "Plunder Patroll" Token summoned earlier as materials, Link Summon Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain.
10 (Optional) If there is another "Plunder Patroll" monster you control while Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain is on the field, activate the Link Monster's effect; Special Summon Plunder Patrollship Lys from the Extra Deck, then turn the chosen "Plunder Patroll" monster into an Equip Card, equipping it to Lys.

Boss Monsters

Plunder Patrollship Lys
Plunder Patrollship Lys Plunder Patrollship Lys provides constant presence on the field with its ability to Special Summon "Plunder Patroll" monsters from the hand or placed in the Spell/Trap Zone. This monster also negates monster effects, and can potentially get a free search effect.
Plunder Patrollship Brann
Plunder Patrollship Brann While Plunder Patrollship Brann is face-up on your field, Fiend-type monsters (and by association, your "Plunder Patroll" monsters) gain ATK. By discarding a "Plunder Patroll" card, it can also banish a Spell/Trap the opponent controls, and add a "Plunder Patroll" monster from the Deck.
Plunder Patrollship Jord
Plunder Patrollship Jord Plunder Patrollship Jord is the only Pendulum Monster in the Deck Recipe for good reason; its Pendulum Effect Special Summons a Token with an Attribute of your choosing. It can also provide a search, and even a Special Summon, in response to your opponent Special Summoning their own monster.
Adamancipator Risen - Dragite
Adamancipator Risen - Dragite Adamancipator Risen - Dragite is a good pick due to the Deck having a WATER Monster in Whitebeard and Blackeyes. So long as there is a WATER monster in the GY, once per turn this monster can negate a Spell/Trap and destroy it.
Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain
Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain The main Link Monster in the Extra Deck, Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain is the main way of Special Summoning "Plunder Patroll" monsters from the Extra Deck, depending on the Attribute of monsters the opponent controls. It also provides a free draw, providing more card advantage.

Plunder Patroll Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Plunder Patroll

Eldlich Control

YGO Master Duel - Eldlich Control Deck Guide Banner.png

Even with all the new cards added in so far, Eldlich Control remains the prolific control Deck due to its numerous flood gates and disruptions, most notably Skill Drain. Until you can deny all of their disruptions, Plunder Patroll users will have a hard time against this Deck.

Winged Dragon of Ra

The Winged Dragon of Ra Top Image.png

A Kaiju-esque playstyle is what makes a Winged Dragon of Ra Deck very dangerous against the Patroll Plunderers. Having their boss monsters tributed before they could even get a chance to activate their effects will be what could determine the outcome of a Duel.

Best Cards to Tech Against Plunder Patroll

Dark Ruler No More
Dark Ruler No More Dark Ruler No More neutralizes all of the Effect Monsters in this Deck, which will completely break the Deck's strongest field. While the trade-off is not being able to deal damage, it's a very noteworthy price to pay for a chance to remove the pesky boss monsters from the field.
Skill Drain
Skill Drain Much like Dark Ruler No More, Skill Drain effectively stops all Effect Monsters active of the field so long as this Continuous Trap remains active on the field. The Blackwing-using opponent will have to get rid of this card first if they want to continue setting up properly to get to the boss monsters.
Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju
Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju Technically, all Kaijus monsters are applicable here; Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju just so happens to be the Kaiju monster with the lowest ATK among the archetype. All it needs to be on the field is a monster the opponent controls to be tributed. It easily bypasses any ignition effects that could trigger if the monster card was destroyed, or immunities like being immune to targeted card effects.
Effect Veiler
Effect Veiler Considering a lot of the boss monsters in this Deck can turn the tide in their favor, Effect Veiler should be a card to consder. It can act as a combo disruptor, denying the opponent an effect that extends a Blackwing play, or negate specific monsters' effects that should leave them vulnerable if able.
Maxx "C"
Maxx "C" Blackwings can Special Summon monsters left and right, thus making them ripe to be countered with a Maxx "C". This can completely stop the Blackwing player from continuing with their combo, as each Special Summon grants you a draw if this hand trap's effect gets to resolve.
Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure Dimensional Fissure can mess with the Plunder Patroll's playstyle, due to their ability of equipping cards or recycling them from the Graveyard. Unless they tech in cards to specifically deal with this card or others with similar effects (like Macro Cosmos), this card will shut down a Plunder Patroll Deck.
