| Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier | |
|---|---|
Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier is a boss monster simply for its hand-ripping ability upon being Synchro Summoned (alongside banishing a card they have on the field and in the GY each). Though, the material requirements is a little harder to achieve since it needs at least two non-Tuner monsters, that is not much of a problem with most of the Deck being relatively easy to Special Summon. |
| Poseidra Abyss, the Atlantean Dragon Lord | |
Poseidra Abyss, the Atlantean Dragon Lord can be cheated out by overlaying an Xyz "Atlantean" or "Mermail" monster on top. Detaching two materials allows this card to bounce back three cards the opponent controls back to the hand, and when sent to the GY, can Special Summon 3 Fish, Sea Serpent or Aqua-type monsters from the hand or GY. |
| Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying | |
Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying might look out of place since this card is commonly seen in Swordsoul Decks, but there are a couple of banish effects within the Deck. Each banished card makes this monster stronger and the enemy's monster's weaker, and once per turn it can banish a card from the Field and in the GY should a card get banished. |
| Mermail Abyssgaios | |
The easier of the Rank 7 Xyz Monsters in the Deck, Mermail Abyssgaios acts as a pseudo-floodgate. Level 5 or higher monsters on the field cannot attack while this card has material, and it can negate the effects of monsters with less ATK than this card as a Quick Effect. |

All a Yubel player needs is one good draw.
With Nightmare Throne and Mature Chronicle active, banished cards can be easily retrieved from the Deck's hand-ripping effects like from Trishula. Samsara D Lotus is a one-card combo starter, and Spirit of Yubel can Special Summon itself from the hand if the opponent attacks with a monster.
The most dangerous card in the Deck is Nightmare Pain, which forces the opponent's monsters in Attack Position to attack any "Yubel" monster.

Among all the Decks currently meta, there is no Deck harder to interrupt than the Memento Deck. Most of the cards here relish being destroyed, with the most egregious include Mementotlan-Horned Dragon which can destroy three face-up cards on the field and Mementotlan Shleepy acting as a Foolish Burial.
This is all to set up its two big boss monsters: Mementomictlan Tecuhtlica - Creation King with its card destruction Quick Effect, and Mementoal Tecuhtlica - Combined Creation that can attack all monsters once each if it is the only monster on its side of the field.
Memento Deck List & Card Guide

In lore, Fire Kings are at odds with Mermails and Atlanteans. It makes sense that the most challenging match-up it has is up against the Deck's strongest variant, Fire King Snake-Eyes. It likes to destroy cards to gain advantage, and now with Fire King High Avatar Kirin now being Unlimited, its consistency has gotten stronger.
Beware of powerful cards that can wipe the field, like Fire King Sky Burn for destroying card equal to its own "Fire King" monsters being destroyed, and Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings which can be summoned with the help of Fire King Sanctuary.

| Lair of Darkness | |
|---|---|
Lair of Darkness is an unorthodox counter, but it makes sense in hindsight as it turns all monsters on the field and in the GY to DARK monsters. This turns off some boss monsters' effects as they rely on having WATER monsters on either area. The player controlling this Field Spell can also tribute a DARK monster the opponent controls if an effect calls for a tribute as cost. |
| Necrovalley | |
WATER monsters love being Special Summoned multiple times, especially from the GY. With Necrovalley on the field, all Special Summons from the GY are essentially denied, for all cards placed there cannot move anywhere else. |
| Maxx "C" & Mulcharmy Fuwalos | |
An Atlantean Mermail Deck is at its strongest when it manages to Special Summon its strongest end board, and have ripped cards off the opponent's starting hand. A well-timed, uninterrupted usage of either Mulcharmy Fuwalos or Maxx "C" denies the strategy; more so if both cards are activated and resolved successfully. |
| Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon | |
Part of the strongest iteration of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon Deck, Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon is a floodgate in of itself by preventing either player from Special Summoning multiple monsters in a single instance. It can also negate an effect that activates in the GY, and can tribute itself in order to Special Summon a LIGHT Dragon Synchro monster from the Extra Deck. |
