Soul Drain
|
To further play into the control playstyle of the Odion Deck, Soul Drain denies any activation of effects that trigger either in the Banishment or in the Graveyard. This leaves only the field and the hand as the only places where cards can activate their effects from, which can be dealt with with the interruptions from the various Trap Cards in the Deck List. |
|---|---|
Verdict of Anubis
|
Verdict of Anubis is the archetype's own Counter Trap specifically meant to counter the opponent's Spells or Traps, and wipe all their monsters as additional punishment. People can make a case for adding this to the Deck for protection, but they have to keep in mind that they can only trigger this Counter Trap if they have 3 or more Spells/Traps on their field. |
Pot of Prosperity
|
Pot of Prosperity can be heavily considered for the Main Deck if they do not heavily utilize the Extra Deck and just have it for supplementary options. After all, the drawback to drawing cards using this Spell Card is by banishing 3 or 6 cards from the Extra Deck at random; it has a possible chance of banishing helpful cards like Divine Serpent Apophis, Divine Scorpion Beast Serket or Silhouhatte Rabbit. |
Statue of Anguish Pattern
|
Statue of Anguish Pattern is not as impressive of a Trap Monster compared to the what we have these days, but this still serves purpose to supplement the playstyle. Its effect to pop a card on the field whenever you Special Summoned something from the Spell/Trap Zone has no once-per-turn clause whatsoever, meaning it can repeatedly destroy a card whenever you summon an Apophis monster. |
Angel Statue - Azurune
|
Angel Statue - Azurune almost always goes hand-in-hand with Silhouhatte Rabbit, as first observed with Argostars. It can tribute a Trap Card summoned as a monster to negate a summon and destroy them, and can also destroy the monster that manages to destroy this card. |
| Primite Engine |
Another addition to support the control playstyle of Odion, if there is space in the Spell/Trap Zone after setting the necessary cards, is the Primite Engine. While having this means you need to have a Normal Monster slotted in the Main Deck, this gives access to a free body for an Xyz or Link Summon, and access to Primite Drillbeam which acts as a field version of Called by the Grave.

| Odion Play Style Tips |
|---|
|
・Search Treasures of the King ASAP ・Use Anubis to Search Man with the Mark ・The Serpent Sets up The Swamp Deity ・Fusion Summon with Serket as Material ・Dominator Engine |
Treasures of the Kings is basically a modern retrain of the old Continuous Spell Card, Temple of the Kings. It even takes on the name of the Spell Card while active in the Field Spell Zone. On activation it allows the setting of an Apophis Trap Card straight from the Deck, and once per turn it is a free searcher of a card that mentions Temple of the Kings.
The original Temple of the Kings allows the activation of 1 Trap Card you set on the same turn. This is what enables the Trap Monsters of the Deck that can fill up the field as soon as possible.
One of the key monsters of the Deck is The Man with the Mark, which on Summon searches out a card that mentions Temple of the Kings. Ideally, you want to use this effect to add Treasures of the Kings, which will then set up the original Temple of the Kings. Then, this card and all Apophis Monsters you control become immune to card destruction or battle destruction.
Anubis the Last Judge can be discarded to search out The Man with the Mark. It can then Special Summon itself from the GY or hand once specific game state conditions are fulfilled, allowing the player to recycle cards mentioning Temple of the Kings back to the Deck.
Apophis the Swamp Deity is the main Trap Card of the Deck, but its ability to be summoned can only be triggered during the Main Phases. However, its negation effect based on the number of Continuous Traps you control, including Trap Card monsters, is not once per turn. The more you summon and control, the stronger its negation effect is on summon.
Helping with setting up the Swamp Deity is Apophis the Serpent, which allows the player to set an Apophis Trap Card straight from the Deck on activation and summon. If you decide to slot in Embodiment of Apophis, sending this card to the GY will search a copy from the Deck.
The boss monster version is Divine Serpent Apophis, which through its effect does not need any Fusion Spell like Polymerization if the material requirements are met. Once per turn, it can set up to 3 Apophis Trap cards from the GY, allowing the player to refresh resources from the GY. It also carries a card destruction effect once per turn when a Trap Card is activated.
To summon Merciless Scorpion of Serket from the hand, you have to banish a Level 10 or higher monster from the hand or Deck (which will most likely be Anubis the Last Judge), while you control Temple of the Kings. Once per turn it searches a card that mentions Temple of the Kings, and during battle it can automatically destroy the monster it battles and permanently gain half the ATK of the monster it destroyed.
Though realistically, you want this monster on the field as bait as you set up Super Polymerization. Once they summon one of their boss monsters with 2500 or more ATK, fuse it away for Divine Scorpion Beast of Serket. This time, it banishes the monster it battles and gains the original ATK of the monster it dealt with as a boost.
| Tips in Beating Odion Decks |
|---|
|
・Floodgates Stop Summoning Shenanigans ・Backrow Removal is Paramount ・Take Up All Their Card Zones ・Best Decks to Use Against Odion ・Best Cards to Use Against Odion |
Despite being a control Deck, they happen to have quite a lot of Special Summons to get to their most optimal field. Floodgates stop Odion Decks dead in their tracks and prevent them from snowballing to get their multiple Trap Cards ready to be summoned.
The most suggested against this Deck would be El Shaddol Winda, which only allows one Special Summon for each player while this monster is face-up on the field. Red Reboot negates the activation of the Trap Card, and prevents the opponent from activating any more for the rest of the turn.
Our unique suggestion is Denko Sekka, which prevents both players from Setting Spells/Traps or even activating any Spells/Traps that were already set on the field so long as its controller does not control any on their field.
The defining strength of an Odion Deck is its utilization of Trap Card monsters, but there is little to protect the backrow. The Deck list may have cards like Solemn Judgment, but that's about it. One well-timed backrow wipe like Harpie's Feather Duster, Heavy Storm and Lightning Storm will immediately wreck shop against this Deck.
A unique weakness Odion Decks have is that the reliance of Trap Card monsters means they have to have Spells and Trap Zones occupied first, and when they are summoned they also occupy the Zone where they once were on activation.
This leaves them with less zones to make use off. Use this to your advantage with cards that block off Card Zones. Ojama Knight blocks off only Monster Zones, while Number 57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon blocks off an unused Spell/Trap Card Zone.
The deadliest of the bunch is Kashtira Shangri-Ira, which blocks off zones from both the Monster Zones and Spell/Trap Zones.
| Jinzo |
Jinzo specializes in getting the titular monster out on the field and prevent the opponent from every using any Trap Cards for the rest of the Duel. This is the one Deck Odion should avoid; the Trap Card neutralization is crucial, but there additional dangers like Jinzo - Layered which can steal monsters for a turn, and Jinzo - Lord which can wipe them off the field for additional burn damage. |
|---|---|
| Ryzeal |
Ryzeal's dangers involve Ryzeal Detonator which can destroy a card as many times as it can detach materials from itself. There is also Ryzeal Cross, which can stop the effect of a monster from resolving. The variants also make this archetype quite dangerous, such as a Ryzeal Deck Engine like Onomat or Mitsurugi. |
| Atlantean Mermail |
Atlantean Mermail's danger is their ability to rip cards from the opponent's starting hand while building a formidable Deck. Additional interruptions will make it harder for Odion to make it to their key cards, such as Adamancipator Risen - Dragite with its negation on Spells/Traps and Poseidra Abyss, the Atlantean Dragon bouncing up to 3 cards the opponent controls back to the hand. |
| Kashtira |
One boss monster within the Kashtira Deck will make an Odion's Deck miserable, and that is Kashtira Shangri-Ira and its effect to block off Card Zones whenever a card(s) is banished face-down. It can play through Arise-Heart's pseudo-Macro Cosmos effect, but Card Zones matter so much to a Deck that turns Trap Cards into Special Summoned monsters. |
| Sky Strikers |
Sky Strikers are well known for having a wide variety of Spell Cards in their toolbox to pick apart a Field, especially from card destruction effects from Afterburners! and Jamming Waves! With the addition of Lemnisgate! and Sky Striker Ace = Zero, their access to the Extra Deck is much more flexible now.
|
Jinzo
|
The original Jinzo outright prevents both players from making use of Trap Cards; any activations are automatically negated, attempts are disabled and lingering effects are neutralized. As mentioned above there is an entire Deck revolving around summoning Jinzo and its stronger retrains much easier. |
|---|---|
Evenly Matched
|
If the player suddenly starts not activating anything and heads into the Battle Phase, be very scared of the opponent having the possibility of having an Evenly Matched. The worst case scenario is that they were activated from the hand, leaving the Odion player with only one Card left on the field. |
Cosmic Cyclone
|
Cosmic Cyclone can be activated from the hand outside of the Main Phases, which makes it great agianst the Apophis Trap Cards. The targeted Spell/Trap also gets banished, which prevents it from getting added back to the Deck from the GY via Divine Serpent Apophis's effect. |
Eradicator Epidemic Virus
|
A Trap-centric DARK Deck has the danger of carrying a copy of Eradicator Epidemic Virus in their Deck List. When they manage to resolve this card and calls Trap Card before you can even Set one, the game is basically good as over after it destroys all the Trap Cards you have on hand and draw for the next 3 turns. |
