Alternate Deck Options

Because of how flexbile this Deck can be in the hands of a player who knows the strengths and weakneses of the Dragon Links Deck, there are a couple of suggestions worth checking out if you're considering other Deck Engines to play.

Main Deck Options

Effect Veiler Dragunity Remus Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite
Chaos Dragon Levianeer Chaos Emperor, the Dragon of Armageddon Nibiru, the Primal Being

With the Deck being flexible for 60 cards, there are lots of options to consider for the Deck. Previous staples on previous versions of the Deck like Dragunity Remyus and Blackwing- Zephyros the Elite can still be valid due to their value as combo extenders.

Effect Veiler goes well if the Deck often goes second, providing lots of interruption for monster effects, while Nibiru, the Primal Being punishes Decks it goes up against that summon multiple times in a single combo.

For more power, Chaos Dragon Levianeer and Chaos Emperor, the Dragon of Armageddon are more options to consider with the number of LIGHT and DARK monsters the Deck Recipe has.

Spells and Traps

Shadow Return of the Dragon Lords World Legacy Guardragon Etude of the Branded

Shadow's Light is a very good card to consider adding to the Deck, especially if you have LIGHT and DARK monsters with the same Type and Level. It also provides an additional Normal Summon for either attribute as well.

Return of the Dragon Lords and World Legacy Guardragon provide ways to extend combos, while protecting your dragons at the same time.

Etude of the Branded allows the player to Synchro Summon during the opponent's turn, so long as the prerequisite monsters are on your side of the field.

Extra Deck Options

Void Ogre Dragon Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon Hieratic Dragon King of Atum Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy Borrelsword Dragon

Much like the Main Deck, there is a wide variety of options to consider for the Extra Deck with the Dragon Links. Choose wisely on what to add at your discretion.

Void Ogre Dragon can negate a card once per turn and Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon can Synchro Summon a Level 10 Synchro Monster through its own effect, giving it additional protection.

Hieratic Dragon King of Atum is great due to the addition of the Bystial monsters, and its effect is another combo extension through its Special Summon effect. Meanwhile, Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy is a redirect for attacks, and can negate Spell Cards once per turn.

Borrelsword Dragon was the previous big boss of the Dragon Link Deck before the debut of Borrelend Dragon, but that does not mean it cannot be viable for the Deck still. It has its own prowess on the offensive, being able to attack twice per turn after activating its effect.

Rose Dragon Engine

Master Duel - Rose Dragon

Key Cards for Rose Dragon Engine
Roxrose Dragon Red Rose Dragon Basal Rose Shoot Ruddy Rose Dragon

Dragon Links are capable of using the Rose Dragon Engine for both Synchro plays, and the ability to be used as Link Materials--as there is no restriction in any of the cards in the Engine that locks the player out of non-Synchro Summons.

Resonator Engine

Master Duel - Resonators

Key Cards for Resonators Engine
Soul Resonator Red Resonator Crimson Gaia Scarred Dragon Archfiend

The Resonator Engine synergizes well with Decks that can bring out Synchro DARK Dragon-type monsters, which is something that the Dragon Link Deck has because of Borreload Savage Dragon. Though using this Engine locks the player into only Synchro DARK Dragon-type plays, it is still a powerful handful of monsters to consider summoning onto the field.

Dragon Link Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Attention! This portion is in progress after the Deck Recipe has been adjusted; stay tuned until then!

Dragon Link Decks are powerful combo decks whose main goal is to go first and set up disruptions. But it is also more than capable enough to OTK going second through its easy access to Borrelend Dragon.

This Deck has received its fair share of hits in the banlist, but the January 10 2024 update was one of its strongest nerfs, as Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon and White Dragon Wyverburster were marked as banned cards.

Even still, there are ways to getits signature combo going, and can still end on the usual combo of Borrelend Dragon and Borreload Savage Dragon.

Combo Starters

Guardragon Pisty Striker Dragon Rokket Tracer Quick Launch Boot Sector Launch

Nearly all Dragon Link combos start with getting Striker Dragon on the field.

Activate Quick Launch and Special Summon Rokket Tracer from the deck, and Link Summon Striker Dragon using it. Guardragon combos would need a supply of low-level or low-Link Rating Dragons for their Link Summons, like Guardragon Pisty.

The Rokket Deck Engine, specifically Boot Sector Launch can easily flood the field with Dragons without much investment.

Combo Extenders

Absorouter Dragon Dragon Ravine Bystial Magnamhut Branded Regained

Decks like this need good mid-combo cards to give it more flexibility.

Absorouter Dragon also has a search effect that can act as an extender for Link Summoning. Same with the Dragon Ravine field spell.

The Bystials provide materials on the field, while at the same time banishing cards to be utilized later. They are especially strong if the opponent runs any LIGHT or DARK monsters.

Alongside them, Branded Regained takes advantage of cards being banished to provide free draws and Special Summons.

End Combo

Rokket Tracer Guardragon Pisty Borreload Savage Dragon Borrelend Dragon

It's very easy to summon Borreload Savage Dragon given how often you'll be seeing Rokket Tracer. Other Level 8 Synchro Monsters are alternate options, but the omni-negate and ATK boost effects that come from Borreload Savage Dragon is too good to pass up.

But it isn't the only big bad monster you'll end up using. Borrelend Dragon is the big boss monster of this Deck, providing both powerful defensive and offensive options that'll keep your board safe with a negate effect when you're done with your Guardragon Pisty combo, while being a powerhouse with 3500 ATK, another omni-negate and a Special Summon effect.

Core Combos and Interactions

Attention! This portion is in progress for a revamp, with new information and strategies coming soon!

Infinite Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Sphere Bounce

Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Sphere gives you the effect of returning a face-up card from the field to the hand once per turn. But rather than sacrificing your precious monsters on the field, using Guardragon Pisty in conjunction can give you a steady supply of tributable monsters to sacrifice.

Key Cards for the Combo
Rokket Tracer Quick Launch Guardragon Pisty Striker Dragon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres
Step Description
1 Activate Quick Launch to Special Summon Rokket Tracer from the Deck.
Afterwards, using Rokket Tracer as material, Link Summon Striker Dragon, then use its effect to send a Boot Sector Launch from the Deck to the hand.
2 Normal or Special Summon another monster, especially one that can replace itself immediately, and activate Striker Dragon's effect to destroy your new monster to get Rokket Tracer from the GY to your hand.
3 Activate Boot Sector Launch and Special Summon up to two "Rokket" Monsters from your hand.
4 Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Sphere using Striker Dragon and another Dragon monster, placing it on one of the Extra Monster Zones--preferably, the left side from your Field.
5 Using the other monster, Link Summon Guardragon Pisty, placing it directly beneath one of the Link Markers from the Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres.

Kaiju Decks

Master Duel - Kaiju Banner

The two omni-negates from Borreload Savage Dragon and Borrelend Dragon will become useless if they end up getting taken of the field--which is what Kaiju monsters and those similar by effect are known for.

Kaiju Deck List & Card Guide

Decks That Can Use Super Polymerization

Super Polymerization

Both of the main boss monsters in this Deck are DARK monsters, meaning they can be easily targeted for a Super Polymerization play to fuse them away for cards like Mudragon of the Swamp and Garura, Wings of Resonant Life.

If you run a Dragon Link Deck and your opponent specializes in Fusion Summons, be prepared to deal with this Quick-Play Spell that has very little counterplay.

Control Decks

Decks that slow down the pace of the game will be highly detrimental for Dragon Link Decks. After all, going hard on a combo should be what it takes to get to its strongest board with Borreload Savage Dragon and Borrelend Dragon.

Successfully interrupting them will derail them from getting to those omni-negates.

You cannot place guardragon pisty right below Hieratic seal unfortunately.

2 Game8: Master Duel Team@Game8over 2 years

Hi Anonymous, Thank you for your comment. The key isn't to have an arrow pointing down at Guardragon Pisty but rather have Guardragon Pisty & Hieratic Seal pointing at the same time -- the one next to Guardragon Pisty which -- if we're using the guide, be the center tile. With that, you'll have 2 link monsters pointing at the same tile -- and you can revive a monster onto that tile once every turn.
