Darklord Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Pure Darklord doesn't have any specific combos other than one or two unless an engine is added to the deck, our priority should be to summon High Level Darklords with enough Darklord Spells/Traps to disrupt the opponent and gain card advantage.

Cards such as Banishment of the Darklords, Darklord Nasten, and Darklord Ixchel are what we hope to see in our hand. All of these cards will be integral to building a board and/or digging through our deck, and any combination of these cards will usually result in at least 1 High Level Darklord on the field and 1 Darklord Spell/Trap, either set on your field or in your GY.

Of course it’s important not to forget the utility that Low Level Darklords bring to the table. Indulged Darklord and Darklord Ukoback both play very nicely with the other cards, and since the High Level Darklords are usually being Special Summoned, the Normal Summon is almost always available for them. Since we require a significant amount of Darklord cards in our hand, many of the combos we have are 3-Card Combos.

Sample Combo #1

Required Cards
Darklord Ukoback Darklord Amdusc Darklord Ixchel
Darklord Ixchel can be replaced with any other Darklord Card.
Step Description
Normal Summon Darklord Ukoback → Activate Darklord Ukoback's Effect and send Banishment of the Darklords to the GY.
Activate Darklord Amdusc Effect from the Hand → Discard Darklord Amdusc together with the other Darklord Card in your hand → Add Banishment of the Darklords from the GY to the Hand.
Set and Activate Banishment of the Darklords → Search for Darklord Contact from the Deck and send it to the Hand.
Set and Activate Darklord Contact → Target Darklord Amdusc in the GY and Special Summon it onto the Field.
Activate Darklord Amdusc's Effect → Pay 1000LP and target Banishment of the Darklords in the GY → Add any Darklord Card from your Deck to the Hand.

Though a bit open ended, this leaves you with a lot of options to move forward. If you need more disruptions, you can add Darklord Rebellion. One can also grab Darklord Nasten to further extend your play. Or if you need extra protection, grabbing a Darklord Tezcatlipoca can help protect you and your monsters on the field.

Sample Combo #2

Required Cards
Indulged Darklord Darklord Ixchel
Darklord Ixchel can be replaced with any other Darklord Card.
Step Description
Normal Summon Indulged Darklord → Activate Indulged Darklord's Effect and search for Capricious Darklord and Darklord Morningstar → Special Summon Capricious Darklord onto your opponent's Field in Defense Position, while sending Darklord Morningstar from the Deck to the Hand.
Set Darklord Enchantment onto your Spell/Trap Zone and search for a Darklord Monster, then end your turn.
Activate Darklord Enchantment and take back the Capricious Darklord from your Opponent's Field. → Ideally, when your opponent has 2 or more Monsters on the Field → Activate Capricious Darklord's Effect and Tribute Summon Darklord Morningstar.
Chain Link 1 Darklord Morningstar while Chain Linking 2 Capricious Darklord → Summon Darklord Ukoback and any High Level Darklord(s) → Activate Darklord Ukoback's Effect to send Darklord Uprising from the Deck to the GY.
At any point, you can activate the effect of a High Level Darklord to copy Darklord Uprising to summon The First Darklord by using Darklord Morningstar as material. This will destroy the opponent’s field

Another combo that leaves you with The First Darklord with 4000 ATK on the field, while having your opponent's Field wiped, while giving you the quick effect of Special Summoning a Fairy Monster from the GY to add, giving you the option for a followup OTK.

Darklord Counters: How to Beat

Deck Counters

Drytron Fairy

Drytron Fairy Deck.png

The key to beating Darklord Decks is negating & interrupting their Summons & Card Effect activations.

Going with a deck similar to the Drytron Fairy Control Deck that can control the flow of the Duel may turn things to your favor!

Runick Stun

Stopping Darklords at every turn is also a very effective way to negate its strengths. Between floodgates and numerous Quick-Play Spells that can neutralize plays, Runick Control Decks are great counters into Darklords.

Unless there are ways to counteract the numerous Quick-Play Spells and floodgates, a Duel against this Deck will be a very rough time.

Nibiru, the Primal Being
Nibiru, the Primal Being When users of a Darklord Decks begin their summoning spree, you can quickly tribute as many face-up monsters on the field, and summon this onto your opponent's field.
This will quickly disrupt them from doing any more summons or even stop them from activating their Card Effects.
Infinite Impermanence
Infinite Impermanence This card, when used, effectively negates the activation of a Monster Card's Effect, which ultimately ruins the Summon Momentum Darklord Deck players need to Special Summon their strong Boss Monsters onto the field.
Summon Limit
Summon Limit A trap card that limits the summon of both parties to a maximum of two times per turn. This will quickly put a halt to chaining Summons that Darklord Deck users do to quickly bring out their powerful Extra Deck Monsters.
Vanity's Fiend
Vanity A monster that can't be special summoned, but locking special summons until he's destroyed. This will quickly put a halt on any and all Darklord Deck Summons, but do note that you won't be able to do any special summons as well.
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring Using this card, you can quickly cancel specific effects that are at the core of Darklord Decks by discarding this card.
You can apply this whenever your opponent adds cards from the GY to their hand, Deck, or Extra Deck, whenever they Special Summon a Monster Card from the GY, or whenever they banish a card from the GY.

Limit Summons

This Darklord Deck relies on Summoning monsters quickly and activate their effects to disrupt your plays.

Using a combination of spells and traps to stop those summons from happening will quickly put the duel in your favor.
