Igneous Cores are a new type of Seasonal material required to enter the Vault of the Loom endgame dungeon in Season 3 of Diablo 4 (D4). Read on to learn how to farm and use Igneous Cores to challenge the Echo of Malphas endgame boss.
List of Contents
Igneous Cores can be farmed by summoning and defeating Heralds of Malphas inside Arcane Tremors at World Tier 4. Spend Elemental Cores and Shattered Stone at Braziers to summon a Herald of Malphas.
However, do note that unlike Pearls of Warding, Igneous Cores are not guaranteed drops. They only have a rare chance to drop after beating a Herald of Malphas.
Arcane Tremors Guide and Rewards
Alternatively, players can look to defeat the Son of Malphas at World Tier 4 to get a few Igneous Cores. However, do note that this mini boss is a random encounter inside Nightmare Vaults and Arcane Tremors which means you cannot target farm it.
The Son of Malphas is a special mini boss similar to the Butcher. It will have a very high HP pool and powerful attacks that can one-shot unprepared characters. Challenge him at your own risk.

Igneous Cores are used to open the Vault of the Loom endgame dungeon in World Tier 4 (after beating the Season 3 Questline). Previously, you had to use Pearls of Warding instead of Igneous Cores to open the vault.
The final room of the vault will contain the Loom. This massive arena is where you can challenge the Level 100 Echo of Malphas for a chance to get the Evernight and Genesis Unique Tuning Stones.
Igneous Cores are the developers' answer to the problem of Pearl of Warding usage at World Tier 4. Previously, endgame players would hoard Pearls for the Vault of the Loom encounter rather than using them for Zoltun's Warding stacks.
In order to alleviate this resource pain point, Patch 1.0.3a introduced Igneous Cores as the new key item needed to enter the Vault of the Loom. This ensures that Pearls are now used solely for Zoltun's Warding.
