Diablo 4 (D4) will not be playable offline, as it is an always-online only game. Read on for more information on this, and whether or not it's possible to play the game solo.

Can You Play in Offline Mode in Diablo 4?
Diablo 4 is Always Online Only
In a Q&A section in BlizzCon 2019, a gaming convention held by Blizzard, it was explained that Diablo 4 would be always online due to it being a shared world, where other players can show up while you're playing the game. This means that no one will be able to play the game offline.
Disappointment From Fans
This decision to make Diablo 4 has disappointed long time fans of Diablo, as those without stable internet connections would not be able to play reliably, and those who do not wish to have other players enter their world would have no choice on the matter.
Playing Solo is Still Possible
Those who wish to play solo will be able to do so. While optional content like PvP zones and World Bosses will need interaction with other players, the rest of the game, including the main story quest, will be solo-able.

Trade Items With Other Players
Diablo 4 will have trading, but it will be limited to certain types of items. Items like Unique, Legendary, and Enchanted items cannot be traded, while almost everything else can be traded.
