The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 Development Team Growing
499 Developers for The Witcher 4
The Witcher 4 development is ramping up, with its team now totaling 499 developers. CD Projekt Red’s (CDPR) fiscal year 2025 report confirms a steady increase of 52 members for the title since October 31, 2025.
According to the presentation, the studio’s overall headcount has increased, driven in part by the multiple high-profile projects currently in development. CDPR CEO Michał Nowakowski highlighted that the company has hired more than 220 developers since February 2025, with most assigned to The Witcher 4.
"Compared to October last year, most new hires are now part of the team working on The Witcher 4, where they help improve quality and scale-up solutions presented in the Unreal Fest tech demo across the entire game," he noted.
First announced at The Game Awards 2024, the highly anticipated fantasy RPG sequel has received sporadic updates from CDPR. These include Narrative Director Philipp Weber’s confirmation that The Witcher 4 will follow the storytelling and progression formula established in The Witcher 3, as well as an Unreal Engine tech demo showcased in June 2025.
While these updates are promising, CD Projekt Red has yet to share an official release window for the title. During the studio’s fiscal year 2024 earnings presentation, Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz said that the studio does not plan to announce a specific launch date soon. "All we could share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026," he stated.
In addition to the mainline entry, CDPR has expanded the team for Project Sirius, a Witcher multiplayer spin-off first unveiled in 2022. While details on the title remain scarce, the studio continues to allocate more resources to the project, with the team growing from 49 members in early 2025 to 71 developers as of February 2026.
Cyberpunk 2 Dev Team Grows to 149 Members
Another CDPR title making steady progress is Cyberpunk 2 (codenamed Orion). The project’s development team has grown to 149 members as of February 2026, up from 135 in October 2025, as the studio continues its recruitment push in North America.
Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel entered pre-production in May 2025. While development has been "progressing well", Nowakowski stated that it is still too early to move on to the next phase.
In May 2025, Cyberpunk creator and R. Talsorian Games founder Mike Pondsmith teased that Cyberpunk 2 will feature an additional location alongside the returning Night City. Speaking at the Digital Dragons conference, Pondsmith described the atmosphere of this new city as "Chicago gone wrong", noting that its aesthetic feels distinct from the Blade Runner-inspired style of the first game.
Project Hadar Progressing Dynamically
Beyond its established franchises, CDPR is also developing its first original IP, codenamed Project Hadar. According to the studio’s March 2026 update, the project has officially moved into the conceptual phase, with a core team of 26 developers currently laying the foundations for this brand-new universe.
"Work on the project is progressing dynamically, and the team has established the foundations of this entirely new IP. Now, we have clearly defined distinguishing features of this world and established key pillars that will not only provide a foundation for the game itself, but also potentially for other future products," Nowakowski said.
CDPR plans to continue bolstering its ranks for the rest of the year, aiming to attract more talent to work on its current projects. While The Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2, and the studio’s other titles seem so far away, these latest updates suggest that the studio is committed to delivering high-quality games that fans will enjoy.
