Yang Zing Tenyi Breakdown

Yang Zing Tenyi Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

The Deck is a mix of two archetypes that have the same typing for the most part, and makes us of both of their strengths. The Yang Zings provide Synchro support and maintain presence on the field through replacement floating effects. The Tenyi appreciates the presence on the field, and having certain cards on the field makes them stronger, specifically non-Effect Monsters, which come from the Extra Deck.

The Main Deck Tenyi monsters all share the effect that allows them to be Special Summoned if you do not control any Effect monsters on the field. They all also have effects that lets them be banished from either the hand or the Graveyard, providing support or protection depending on the situation.

This all leads up to the Link Monsters, which are crucial to the playstyle. Two of the Tenyi Link monsters are non-Effect, which allows the Main Deck Tenyis to use their Special Summon effects. Meanwhile, Shaman and Shasrara make use of having those two non-Effect monsters on the field, providing advantage while it shares the field with said non-Effect monsters.

The Yang Zing monsters in this Deck are synergystic as monst of the Tenyi Spirit monsters are Wyrm-type, allowing Wyrm supports to flourish in this Deck. A few monsters here are Tuner monsters as well, which opens the Extra Deck into inserting Synchro Monsters as an option.

Core Combos and Interactions

Easy Baronne de Fleur Combo

Baronne de Fleur is one of the newest Synchro Monsters introduced into Master Duel, and for its simplicity in required materials its effects are very powerful, such as the once-per-turn omni-negate. It can easily be brought out using Deskbot 001 and Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon for a simple combo.

1 Using two monsters, one of which being a Tuner monster, Link Summon Crystron Halqifibrax.
2 Upon being Link Summoned, use Crystron Halqifibrax's effect to Special Summon Deskbot 001 from the hand or the Deck.
3 Using the LINK-2 Cystron Halqifibrax and Deskbot 001 as materials, Link Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon.
4 Upon Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon being Link Summoned, Special Summon 3 Level 3 Machine-type Tokens on the field
5 Because of Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon's effect of Special Summoning multiple Machine-type monsters, you can Special Summon Deskbot 001 from the Graveyard back onto the field.
6 Using Deskbot 001 and the 3 Level 3 Tokens, Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur.

Auroradon Negate Layers

Using the Auroradon combo as an opening, you can set up a field that has multiple negates that can stop the opponent from opening with their combos. This makes use of multiple Summons, so be mindful of cards like Nibiru, the Primal Being.

6 Activate the second effect of Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon, use itself and one of the three tokens as tribute and Special Summon Mecha Phantom Beast O-Lion frrom the Deck.
7 Using Mecha Phantom Beast O-Lion and one of the remaining two tokens, Synchro Summon Denglong, First of the Yang Zing.
8 Upon being Synchro Summoned, activate the effect of Denglong, First of the Yang Zing, and chain the effect of Mecha Phantom Beast O-Lion afterwards. Upon resolution, Special Summon the Token from O-Lion's effect, and search out Nine Pillars of Yang Zing from the Deck using Denglong's effect.
9 Using Denglong, First of the Yang Zing and one of the two tokens you have on your field, Synchro Summon Borreload Savage Dragon; activate its effect on summon, and equip Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon from the Graveyard to this monster.
10 You can chain Denglong with Borreload Savage Dragon's effect after being sent to the GY; upon resolution, Special Summon Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing from the Deck to the field.
11 Using Deskbot 001 and the last Token on the field as material, Synchro Summon Herald of the Arc Light.

Boss Monsters

Borreload Savage Dragon
Borreload Savage Dragon Borreload Savage Dragon is a perfect Synchro Monster to have that uses Link Monsters. A great late-game option, this monster can use a Link Monster with a high Link Rating to not only boost its own attack, but it gains the ability to negate effects.
Baronne de Fleur
Baronne de Fleur A very powerful Synchro Monster with an omni-negate and the ability to destroy a card once per turn. Baronne de Fleur also has the ability to return to the Extra Deck, and in turn Special Summon another monster from the Graveyard. Expect the opponent to have difficulty dealing with this monster, which can be easily brought out with a specific combo.
Draco Berserker of the Tenyi
Draco Berserker of the Tenyi Another Synchro Monster, Draco Berserker of the Tenyi can provide protection against mosnter effects by banishing them. It can also make a second attack each turn, and its attack increases each time it manages to destroy an Effect monster.
Tenyi Spirit - Sahasrara
Tenyi Spirit - Sahasrara The main boss monster of the Tenyi archetype, Tenyi Spirit - Sahasrara provides blanket immunity to effects to your own Effect Monsters if you control a non-Effect monster on the field. It can also Special Summon a token that can replicatet the ATK of a monster the opponent controls, making it effective to crash with while keeping your monsters safe.

Budget Yang Zing Tenyi: F2P Friendly

Lower Rarity Replacements

Baronne de Fleur Clear Wing Synchro Dragon F.A. Dawn Dragster

Baronne de Fleur is extremely strong for its omni-negate effect; as soon as it's on the field, it will be hard to remove it unless you throw all resources possible at it. If you cannot craft it yet or do not have the resources to get card packs, two other Synchro Monsters with lower rarity can fit the bill nicely: Clear Wing Synchro Dragon and F.A. Dawn Dragster.

Vessel for the Dragon Cycle Hand Destruction

Vessel for the Dragon Cycle synergizes well with the large fraction of Wrym monsters composing the Deck. It sends cards to the Graveyard which opens up a chance to use Graveyard effects. A good card to consider as an alternative to send Tenyi monsters is Hand Destruction, as it also affects the opponent by forcing them to discard as well.

Herald of the Arc Light Old Entity Hastorr

Herald of the Arc Light is an amazing Synchro Mosnter that can be used to chain into higher-leveled Synchro Monsters, while acting as a monster version of Dimensional Fissure. A more craft-friendly option is Old Entity Hastorr, which when sent to the Graveyard, can cripple a monster the opponent controls by turning itself into an Equip card.

Yang Zing Tenyi Counters: How to Beat

Best Decks to Use Against Yang Zing Tenyi

Eldlich Control

Eldlich Control

Unless this Deck manages to get out their key monsters that provide protection, like Baronne de Fleur, Borreload Savage Dragon or Tenyi Spirit - Sahasrara, Eldlich decks can easily dictate the flow of the game, especially with its floodgates like Skill Drain denying effect monsters their potency.

Eldlich Control Deck Guide

Invoked Shaddoll

Invoked Shaddoll

The various Fusion Monsters of an Invoked Shaddoll Deck will be very suppressing against Yang Zing Tenyi. Better for this Deck to go first and set up as much as possible to stop the Shaddolls from doing any Fusion Summons and suppress their effects.

Invoked Shaddoll Deck Guide

Drytron Fairy

Drytron Fairy

Drytron Fairy still remains one of the best Decks in general because of the strength of its Ritual Monsters, like Herald of Ultimateness witht its negate effects and Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids with its ability to wipe the field. Its consistency will be hard to challenge, but even Yang Zings will be able to deal with Drytrons.

Best Cards to Tech Against Yang Zing Tenyi

Summon Limit
Summon Limit The Deck relies on Special Summons quite a lot, especially when they need to go for their stronger monsters in the Exta Deck. Summon Limit should be able to bottleneck them by restricting all summons to just two per turn.
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring A number of Tenyi monsters search out cards from the Deck to add to the hand or send a card from the Deck to the Graveyard; Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is the quintessential counter against both of these effects, and it can stop this deck's game plan from happening.
Called by the Grave
Called by the Grave Quite a lot of the monsters in this Deck have Graveyard effects, especially the Tenyi monsters which banish themselves to activate their effects. Called by the Grave is a good counter to it, but you have to activate it before the optimal timing for the opponent to use those GY effects arrive.
Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure Even better than negating Graveyard effects is to deny them outright. Dimensional Fissure blocks out the Graveyard and banishes cards that were supposed to be sent there instead. Beware, however, of effects that trigger if cards are banished instead.
