Salvage Legendary Weapons to Get Baleful Fragments

Diablo 4 - Blacksmith Salvage

You can obtain Baleful Fragments by salvaging legendary weapons that have at least 400 Item Power at the Blacksmith of any town or city. Legendary equipment have low drop rates, so only salvage Legendary armor pieces that you can afford to lose.

Note that Legendary weapons with under 400 Item Power will never yield Baleful Fragments, while Legendary weapons with over 400 Item Power will always yield Baleful Fragments, so remember this when deciding what to do with your unwanted Legendaries.

Diablo 4 - How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor

You can use Baleful Fragments to upgrade legendary weapons at the Blacksmith. Note that Legendary armor with under 400 Item Power can be fully upgraded with only Rare or lower rarity mats.

How to Upgrade Equipment

Used to Imprint Legendary Aspects

Baleful Fragments are also required to imprint Extracted Legendary Aspects onto equipment with at least 400 Item Power. Similar to upgrading, Legendary weapons with under 400 Item Power can be imprinted with Legendary Aspects in exchange for only Rare or lower rarity mats.
