EX-ZERO Dark Magician Deck Guide: How to Play

Playstyle and Win Condition

Dark Magician Decks are typically slower than the usual meta-defining Decks. Usually, the Deck is meant to be played as a Control Deck with powerful Fusion Monsters with floodgate-like effects. However, with the loss of the Extra Deck in the EX-ZERO Festival, it relies on the titular monster itself to get the job done.

In the 2024 rerun, the Deck is better complemented with the release of the Shining Sarcophagus archetype, as it has a special retrain of Dark Magician which can help set up Spells or Traps that explicitly mention the monster.

Control via Dark Magician

Master Duel - Dark Magician

Try and take control of the board early by summoning a Dark Magician onto the field as soon as possible. Send a Dark Magician to your GY using Magicians' Souls then Special Summon it from the GY using Eternal Soul.

Using Eternal Soul will make your Dark Magician become impervious to most card effects, helping him last longer. This is espcially strong while Dark Magical Circle is on the field, as it can banish a card on the field once per turn any time you summon a Dark Magician.

Shining Sarcophagus Support

Master Duel - Shining Sarcophagus

The support with Shining Sarcophagus is small here as the main focus taking advantage of Dark Magician the Magician of Black Magic. It's easy to summon the monster because of its effect, but the real support comes with Ties That Bind, which gets both Silent monsters that have effect negations, and ability to get stronger over time.
