N/R Ancient Warriors Deck Guide: How to Play

The Ancient Warriors archetype are known for their ability to swarm the field with monsters with high stats, which is often a staple for Beatdown decks. They get stronger or have more effects in the presence of other Ancient Warrior monsters on the field.

To be precise, the monsters have various effects depending on their affinity. The Wind monsters Ingenious Zhuge Kong, Valiant Zhang De, and Loyal Guan Yun have effects that trigger when the opponent has monsters. The Water monsters Graceful Zhou Gong and Eccentric Lu Jing have effects that trigger when other Ancient Warrior monsters activate their effects. Lastly, the Fire monsters Deceptive Jia Wen and Fearsome Zhang Yuan activate their effects when an opponent's monster is destroyed, either by battle or card effect.

The various Ancient Warrior Spells and Traps all provide the Ancient Warrior monsters benefits like battle protection, card destruction or ATK modification, further pushing the Deck's beatdown playstyle. On top of that, Fire Formation - Tensu provides one more Normal Summon for Beast-Warrior monsters, which is exactly the monster type of the archetype.

The Extra Deck monsters are no slouches in terms of firepower, either. Gagaga Soldier, Number 52: Diamond Crab King, Number 70: Malevolent Sin and Number 80: Rhapsody in Berserk all hit hard for low-rarity Xyz Monsters. Odd-Eyes Absolutet Dragon is an easy cheat code to bring outt Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon without needing to do a Fusion Summon, and because of their typing as Beast-Warriors, Ancient Warrior monsters can be used as materials for Tri-Brigade Rugal the Silver Sheller.
