How to Fix Follow the Butterflies Conjuration Chest Bug

Follow the Quest-Specified Butterflies

Hogwarts Legacy - Follow the Quest-Specified Butterflies
Once you talk to Clementine Willardsey and start the quest, follow the butterflies in the Forbidden Forest and finish the quest as soon as possible.

Do not follow the other butterflies as this causes the quest-specified butterflies to disappear and change your quest objective to "Return to Miss Willardsey". This also prevents you from opening the treasure chest that the quest-specified butterflies will lead you to.

Perform a Manual Save Before Starting the Quest

Hogwarts Legacy - Perform a Manual Save Before Starting the Quest
Make sure to perform a manual save before talking to Clementine Willardsey in Hogsmeade. In case the bug occurs, you can reload the previous save and redo the side quest again.

Do Not Start the Quest When Completing Other Butterfly Chests

If you are currently finding the Butterfly Chests all over The Highland, do not start the side quest or have it as an active quest in the Quests menu.

Simply following the other butterflies causes the quest's objective to change to "Return to Miss Willardsey", even if you have not found the quest-specified butterflies that lead to the treasure chest.

Follow the Butterflies Conjuration Chest Bug Explanation

Bug Causes the Game to Mistake Other Butterflies as the Quest Objective

This bug occurs when you ignore the butterflies that the quest specifies and instead solve the other butterfly puzzles in the map.

Doing so causes the game to think that you have completed the quest objective and will redirect you back to Clementine Willardsey in Hogsmeade to complete the quest.

Bug Also Causes the 139/140 Conjuration Collectibles Bug

The treasure chest that the butterflies will lead you to during the quest will be permanently lost if you decide to follow the other butterflies. This in turn, leads to the 139/140 Conjuration Collectibles Bug which shows one missing Conjuration Collectible in your Collectibles menu.
